Not really transfers, but guys back on the market.

Welcome back to irrelevancy VCU...and your new coach is from Chattanooga. Anyone who was pimping VCU, a novelty act, to join the Big East should be embarrassed. #HavocIsDead

"@jeffborzello: All three members of VCU's 2015 recruiting class have received their release from the school, as well as freshman Justin Tillman."
Their new coach is a former VCU assistant who went and got head coaching experience elsewhere before returning to VCU. Also, while he was gone, he turned a miserable Chattanooga program into a respectable low-major that finished just one game out of first in the conference behind Wofford.

We've hired former assistants with no head coaching experience, so how is VCU hiring a former assistant with good head coaching experience mock-worthy?

For whatever it's worth, I tweeted Rick Browning yesterday and asked him about the possibilities of X adding an impact transfer for next year. He said not to get my hopes up. Looks like X will be rolling with Larry, Sumner, & committee next year. I'm ok with this as I have faith in the players and coaches. Was just hoping to get a vet who could lessen the load. We'll see some growing pains, but in the long run, it will benefit the team.

So this was before the Junior Etou news? Or would Junior Etou not be considered an impact transfer? Or did he omit Etou because Etou is not immediately eligible?

But with his age Junior is not quite a junior junior, is anyone on the team his senior?

I'm not sure, but my thought is that he is not considered an "impact transfer" because he cant play immediately.

Yes, to clarify, I was asking about an immediatly eligible transfer.

I hope we stay away from this guy. I don't think we can afford him.

Maybe we can use his Golden Buckeye card and get a discount.

Why is everyone down on Étou?

Nothing shady in his past that I can discover.

He may have lied about his age in the past and he will effectively join an already very large graduating class.

Pretty serviceable replacement for Jalen if he leaves early though. As they say "things have a way of working themselves out".

Yeah, what's the downside? Bigs are always harder to find than guards. If Jalen leaves early, we have a hole. May as well fill it with a guy who is showing talent.

I don't see why COLLEGE basketball fans have an issue with age of a player. doesn't matter if he is 18 or 26, if he is good, he is good, and he has 4-5 years to play. It's all about their college eligibility, FR, SO, JR, SR, who cares how old they are when they are playing in college. (obviously I know/see why NBA scouts have their eyes on the age factor) but it doesn't matter for the pure college results/experience....

Something that caught my attention in that article:

Are people really concerned about the number of transfers in college basketball? The article says an average program experiences 1.4 transfers a year (out of 12 guys). It is estimated 1 in 3 college students don't stick with their initial school past the freshman year: According to USNews & World Report (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/regional-universities/freshmen-least-most-likely-return). 1.4/12 is pretty darn good.

It's even better -- 1.4/13. And I agree with the article 100%.

It's not germane to BYU. And word is that even XU is not above such moves.

Another thing caught my eye in this article. The Autonomous 5 and their followers are about to award guaranteed 4 yr schollies. But coaches obviously don't want to be hindered by their recruiting mistakes for 4 years. Hence rumblings that the Autonomous 5 also want to increase scholly limits. It all makes sense now...

I think we should all resign ourselves to the fact that, unless he gets injured or has a really bad year (fingers crossed that neither happens...), Jalen will be taking his talents to the NBA after next season.

Or Chris Cantino. Or Jordan Latham. Or Jay Canty. Or Griffin Mckenzie. Or...

Some schools do this. Some do not. The list of schools that do is pretty long and right wrong or otherwise we are on that list.

I watched some SIU games this past year. He is not very big (he ain't 6 '7) and is ok.

FWIW he visited that other cincinnati school this past week and from what i have been told they passed.

He was a backup plan for UC as well, which makes it weird because they passed on him before hearing anything from their top targets. I know several people that saw him on campus and said he is maybe 6'4, 6'5 at best.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the issue with this is the same as my issue with the "one-and-done" complaints. People talk about the "transfer epidemic" only because at times it negatively affects their favorite team. Like you say, the rate of athletes transferring is less than the average student. As Gary Parrish (CBS Sports) put so well in an article the other day, 97% of transfers NO ONE CARES OR KNOWS WHO THEY ARE. Fans only get mad when a player they don't want to transfer decides he wants to, and then they use arguments like "475 transfers is an epidemic!"

The way sports are viewed by fans is often an incredibly self-centered point-of-view. It is the same reason professional athletes are vilified for taking money in free agency to leave a team, but no fan gets mad when a player who isn't good enough gets cut.

Sounds like he might not even a backup plan for UC or XU. If he really is only 6'5, I hope its etou or nothing. I have not seen if UC is looking at Etou, but it would be odd if they were interested in this kid but not etou

Eric Paschall ; Fordham's only decent player

If UC reached out on Etou then nothing came of it, I haven't seen anything linking us. UC is all in on Ebuka Izundu right now.

He's an interesting guy. Averaged 13.1 per game which is obviously very good for a frosh, but he only shot 18% from 3 which is not ideal for a 6-2 guard.

yeah..if louisville is truly interested and he is interested in starting at the position he wants to, he should go there. That team next year is going to be lucky to make the tournament though.

If he is interested in being a piece of the puzzle and handle point guard duties for a team that could make another run in March, he should come to xavier.

You think Louisville is going to struggle to make the Tournament next year? That I doubt.

I should have revisited this thread last weekend.
