So, many are coming around to the fact the Big East is rough and tumble, anyone can win Big Time college basketball.
And even the most honest post I have seen in ages ... "Chris Mack has played a tougher schedule than any coach in Xavier history."
Butler has bounded around the Top 25 much of the season, and I think even had a Top Ten rating one week. Well, we beat them twice. G-Town was the preseason choice of many if Villanova wasn't.We beat them twice
That is the way life is in the Big East, the Big 12, the Big Ten, and the ACC And we are now 10-9 against that level of competition with a really, really inexperienced team, making our future even brighter.
Now, for "you saw it here first."
All season long posters keep asking "are we going to make the dance this year?" Got its start after the loss to UTEP (a 20 plus winner BTW). And after losing to LBSU and Auburn, those posters went ballistic. I never doubted that we'd be in. Sixth place in the above mentioned conferences with .500 conference records go dancing. Been that way for a long, long time. The Committee knows more eyes watch a sixth place ACC team that a 27-4 Southland Conference team from Huntsville, TX who were upset in their tournament.
Soooo, a poster this morning wrote how we are now a 8-9 "lock." After last night we locked up a 7the seed, and if we beat G-Town, we very well may be a 6th seed. Two current 7th seeds (St John's, Wichita State, and Iowa, dropped first games in tourneys, Xavier's SOS and RPI and yes conference, has them well above Dayton, Cincinnati, VCU, OK St, LSU, all likely 8-9 seeds.
So there you are ... we will be a 7th seed, and maybe a 6th seed. And you saw it here first.
That's a long way from"are we going to dance this year?"

I actually just posted a similar prediciton in the bubble thread, but I'll let you claim it. Point is, I completely agree. I think the committee will favor us better than we favor ourselves. For the reasons you said, it is justified. Nova-1, Providence-4, Butler-6, Xavier-6, Georgetown-7. Swap Gtown and us if we lose tonight.

I dont think we are a 7 seed. It's so hard to predict seeding and how they will value certain things. I mean heck look at the AAC last year and how they seed Louisville UConn and UC. Granted BE is a much better conference this year than AAC was last year top to bottom. I think we move up to a 7 if we win tonight.

Do you realize that less than a week ago we were a barely missed buzzer-beating 3 from being in the NIT? We're playing for seed tonight, but I think a lot of people will be in for a surprise if they think we are a 7-seed with a loss tonight.
Also, some of those posters "went ballistic" after the LBSU and Auburn losses because those are garbage losses we shouldn't have had. Some fans of this program have a higher expectation than just making the tournament. It's not 1996 anymore.

1st bolded part---- Not true
2nd bolded part- Having higher expectations than just making the tournament is perfectly reasonable. It becomes unreasonable when bitching about a lost/wasted/terrible season starts before the season is over and what we have or havent done in the tournament has been realized. How could anyone's expectations of doing more than just making the tournament be met or not yet when the tournament hasnt even started?

You don't think we would've been in the NIT if we lost to Creighton??? Most bracketologists seemed to think we'd be in trouble, we'd have another bad loss on the resume and an RPI in the 40s. I think everyone on this board agreed that was a must-win game for us, so I'm not sure how that changed now.
2nd part: there are all sorts of benchmarks and accomplishments that can be met before the end of the tournament (preseason tournaments, non-con record, winning/contending for a BE title, etc.). What happens in March can definitely change the feeling of a season, but just getting there doesn't wash away every blemish to this point.

Joe Lunardi (not saying he was definitely right or not) said specifically XU was in no matter what before the Nova game. He said we didnt need another win. Also even if we would have been on the wrong side of the bubble at that point we would have just needed to win one in the BE tourney, which we did last night. There are so many bad bubble teams with wins that dont even compare to ours. I tend to agree with Lunardi in that we didnt need to win @Creighton, but I am definitely gald we did.

It appears we may be going to the NCAA tournament for the 5th time in 6 years with Chris Mack as our head coach.
I've got a really great idea. Let's bitch about it.

That wasn't your idea. Many have been way ahead of you!!!
