While there is no doubt that the guy in charge of the Lexus is a pretty good driver, it might be a good time to make some comparisons to the guy driving the beat up Buick. The current Buick driver has now steered his team to the NCAA tourney (committee willing) 5 times in 6 years while the guy driving the souped up Lexus will have done the same thing 4 times in 6 years. The current Lexus driver got his Buick to the dance 4 times in 5 years compared to the above mentioned 5 of 6 for Mr Buick.
What in the hell is wrong with the idiots on this board? Mack has been a damn good coach and X is lucky to have him. Every loss is deemed as his fault and never is a victory the result of his coaching. Never is a loss the result of the other team just playing better, it's because Mack screwed up. As Skip so often pointed out, the other teams give scholarships too. They practice and sometimes they are just better.
Xavier basketball remains a top tier program. Chris Mack has continued the tradition and deserves praise for continuing to steer that beat up old Buick.

Thank you for starting another thread discussing the merits of our coach getting us to a tournament that is currently discussing whether BYU and Texas A&M should get in.
My oh my how lucky we are.

Some folks seem to think riding the bubble four straight years is continuing to make Xavier a top tier program. The fact that people are happy about that is a sign that we are in a minor slump. If we're talking bubble next season, even if we make it as a double digit seed, I'd say we would be an average program...certainly not a top tier program. (If we're even considered that now, which I don't think we are. Cue the posters "250 programs would love to be in our shoes" talk, top tier program is a top 20 one. Not one that hasn't been ranked in 4 years)
Was it Jason Love who said something like being ranked Isnt a big deal, his teams have been throughout his career at Xavier?

I am extremely happy to be in the tourney but let's not go overboard here.
It took a last second win against a 9th place Big East team on the last day of the regular season to feel good about a tourney berth.
Last year was a pathetic performance in the play game and the year before that was no tourney.
Mack has a lot of work to do.

Regardless the Lexus driver has his car humming right now while the Buick driver's car needs a lot of preventative maintenance.

What is the point of this thread? To make us feel ok that we have ridden the bubble train for four straight years? i feel better...thanks. Mack needs to get better, a lot better.

Yes, let's also act like the brawl didn't happen in 2011/2012 either. There's no way that contributed to any of the issues that year. In fact, can we take that year off the Sweet 16 banner at Cintas? Give me a break guys. You act like the program is in shambles. It took a step back, but looks to be moving forward again. Trust me, I'll be right there with you if the team has the same issues next year and we are 9-9 in the BE.

This sounds and feels a lot like frustration that is understandably fueled by people on message boards, which was then thrown back at said message board after an important win. Relax, my man (or woman).

Please, please, please stop comparing Chris Mack to Sean Miller. It's not even close at this point.

Tell me how a brawl three years means we can't win enough important games to be ranked this season? What things are currently happening now that will affect us three years from now?
College basketball is great in that in one single year you can make great strides. The program isn't in shambles, it wasn't then and it isn't now. What the program is however is stuck. We would like it to get unstuck. Even for just one season that we can add to the mantle of successful seasons of the past.
One season in the BE shows us we can compete. Just one. It's not a long process to get to where we want to be because a fight broke out in our Sweet 16 season.

I have the same hope that we are moving forward, but at this point, I'll believe it when I see it...we have been waiting for 2 plus years now and the results have been the same for those two plus years. we win some, we lose some...inconsistent from game to game heck even half to half.

You seem to like taking one snippet of what I say and misconstruing it as my main point. I'll re-quote what I was replying to and what I said. I only referenced the fight as a reason 2012 was even close to the Bubble. That team was locked loaded until the fight and then go neutered. In my opinion Coach Mack handled that as good as anyone could. That team was getting hammered both externally and internally after the fight. That X was able to get to the Sweet 16 was quite an accomplishment all things considered. Just thinking about that season gets me pissed off.
