In reality it hasn't been that long, but it sure does feel like we haven't had an Honorary Steel Ballz Award in forever. Pick your top performer for our (potentially) season-saving win at Creighton on 03/07.
Candidates:
Matt Stainbrook - 26 points on 11/14 shooting (0/1 from 3, 4/7 from the line), 9 rebounds. and 3 assists
Dee Davis - 4 points on 0/3 shooting (0/2 from 3, 4/4 from the line, including the two with 6 seconds left to win the game) and 5 assists
Trevon Bluiett - 9 points on 3/9 shooting (0/4 from 3, 3/4 from the line), 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Were all of his points in the last 10 minutes? Regardless, he played real well down the stretch after being non-existent most of the game.
Other - It was a really non-spectacular day for our boys statistically (with 1 exception). So if you think anyone else deserves some props (maybe Austin for his good minutes?) select this answer and tell us why (because we would really like to know - Stainbrook should win this thing in a landslide).
Remember, don't let the stats alone dictate your choice. Consider who had the game most worthy of Tu's Steel Ballz.

This should've been a poll of one.
Or if you needed a 2nd it would be JTIII. Who gave SHU, the Tu [no handshake] Hollaway treatment.

honorary mention to Dee, clutch at the line does count for alot in that instance,,,,, alot! Sinking 2 with the game on the line is the sub definition of Steel Ballz, seriously, look it up.
With that said.
Stain's balls at about 4:30 yesterday, the size of the hindenburg

Maybe we should go with watermelons? That's plenty big and, well... we all know what happened to the Hindenburg. Matt seems like a nice guy! (Did you know he's an Uber driver?)

Watermelons are not a good idea. Our friends up north would certainly want to violate him.

So, the Hinderburg and watermelons are out. What's left? Beach balls? We all know how people like to bat those things around....

Honorary pick for the Xavier team for their ability to consistently feed the post and allow Stain to do his job effectively.

Someone picked Trevon? Huh? I could see picking Dee because he hit the most clutch free throws of the game, but otherwise you gotta go with the Big Stain.

Damn, PA. You.re ...well, you are..Remember, the Hindenburg blew up and burned "Oh my God it's..."(radio voice). USS Missouri, Leviathon, Superdome, monstrous might be a tad better.
Stain had agreat game,MVP. BUT MAKING TWO WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE, come on. Blueitt got the Balls for UC.
I couldn't bring myself to re-watch Saturday's game after suffering through the final moments, but after watching this clip, no way it could be anyone but Stains...

I'm with Emp. While there's no discussion that Matt is the MVP, I thought the Ballz award stood for something other than a regurgitated MVP award. And that's why I voted for Dee. He stood up there with the giant Steel Ballz of a #XavierSenior, and knocked down two free throws to seal it.
No question that our other #XavierSenior, Matt Stainbrook, was the best player in the gym on Saturday. But my interpretation of the award made me vote for the giant Steel Ballz of Dee Davis.

The last clip with 2mins left was so pretty. I remember commenting on that move at the time. Stain had a great game.

Matt hit all the bunnies he missed during the year in one game. X needed him to. I'll take it.

The title of the thread is "Who was the best performer in our 3/7 matchup at Creighton?" So I chose Stainbrook. Because he obviously was. If the standard was otherwise -- say, who most lived up to legend of Tu Holloway's Steel Balls, it would have been a tougher call. Dee did hit those two FT's, but he only needed one to tie, and it's not like he went 8-8 from the line to seal the win.

Thanks, I can read. And I read that to mean who was the best performer in the tradition of Tu Holloway's Steel Balls, given the name of the award.

If the award is for the player of the game, it's Stainbrook. But if it's for most clutch play, it's Dee for hitting the two free throws at the end.
Due to this uncertainty, I have abstained from this week's voting and will continue to do so until we get this titanic issue cleared up.
