Seton Hall up 31-19. The Mack end of the year debacle going as planned so far.
Of course Georgetown will probably beat Seton hall this weekend.

Nice end of the half for Providence to cut the lead to 8. Hopefully they can win this so I can finally buy BE tourney tickets for thursday

I don't know which is crazier, Xavier will finish bottom half of the league or despite finishing in the bottom half of the league, Xavier has a very realistic chance of making the tournament.

sUCks rpi went up to 33 after that Tulsa win and gave them 21 wins.
Now looks like sUCks and Dayton locked in tourney and Xavier will likely lose 2 in a row to cement Dayton or the NIT.
Mack has this program humming.

If Mack would win a game Saturday it could be put to bed. The problem is you, like most Xavier fans, know the reality of this team and the last 3 terrible years.
Not a good year again and some pathetic losses. Better be much better next year or else.....

Or else what? Fr. Graham, who has been at the school longer than almost any president in recent memory, will put the heat on his coach who has made 4 NCAA Tournaments and 2 Sweet 16s? Face facts. Xavier hasn't fired a basketball coach since most of us have been born. They don't do it and it would take something drastic outside of W/L record for it to happen.
And I'm not saying it should either. Firing a coach, or even CMack leaving would set the program back 3 years, minimum. Also, we can't lure big money names from other schools due to our budget. I hope we win saturday. I hope we advance in the BE tourney next weekend in NYC and I hope we make a run in the NCAAs and CMack is back next year to build on the momentum.

You're nuts if you really believe Xavier wouldn't fire a coach for poor performance from a W/L perspective. The only reason it hasn't happened since the 70s is that every coach since then has won and elevated the program.
Mack isn't in danger and shouldn't be at this point, but it's not because Xavier is above firing a coach who doesn't win enough.

Was your expectation that we'd be a 5 seed or better this year? We win Saturday and win a game or two in New York and we're probably a 7 seed. I'm not going to complain about that. Yes those are big assumptions but I'd guess we'll win at least one more game this season to solidify at least a 9 seed. But apparently this is a terrible year because we aren't a 3 seed and in the final four.

Nah, I'm just sick of "embarrassing" and "pathetic." It's a big language! Drop a "disgraceful" or "cataclysmic" or "shambolic" on me from time to time.
Also, if you sent him to Somalia he'd be bitching about how Mogadishu State has been in decline since Sheikh Mahmoud took the Addis Abeba job and referred to MS as a "Trabant" on the way out.

You assuming we win maybe three more games is more unrealistic than GG assuming we lose the next two. If we do lose the next two, how would you view this year? My expectation was certainly to make the tournament, which in the end I do think we will. Either way, GG is more upset that this is the fourth year in a row we have been skating on the bubble. That isn't really near my expectations for Xavier basketball. A season here or there? understandable- expected- four years in a row? Different story.
Also, If we do lose to Creighton and only win one in the Big East, I don't think we get to a 9 seed (Thankfully, Probably an 11 or 12).

Or maybe buy him a glass half full. If he were to pour that into his glass perpetually half empty, there'd be no more cause to bitch, right?

Yes, if we lose the last two and miss the tournament I'm not going to be happy. If you told me before the season started that come March 5th we'd be looking at about a 9 seed, I'd think that's about what I had expected for the season. I'm fine with high expectations for the program, but people need to have realistic expectations for individual season. Do I think we could have been better this year? Yes. Do I think we could have been more than 2-3 wins better? Not really. Even if we lose at Creighton(which I don't think we will), we only really need one more win. We are set up to play three top 25 teams in the Big East tournament if we advance. I think if we win out, we're a 6 seed. If we lose out, play-in game. We've put ourself in a position to make this season successful and I'm not going to write it off yet like so many have.

I somewhat agree...my initial expectation every year is to make the tournament. Some teams the expectations are higher once they get there. For this team, just get in. You never know what can happen once you're in.
At this point in Xavier's evolution, a year without the tournament is a disappointment...and should be, regardless of the make-up of the team.

I just don't get the "what if we lose the next two games" argument/fear/whatever it is. Who cares? My expectations right now are that we will play Creighton on Saturday and play in the second round of the Big East Tournament. Whatever happens in those games will determine whether or not we get a tournament berth and seeding. Worrying about losing those two games is useless.

I think UC's win last night proved to be a great road W but I don't think they are a lock by any means. Lock entails they could lose the rest of the way and still make the dance. That would mean losing to a below average Memphis team at home, then losing in the first round of the AAC tourney against either Memphis again or UConn. Not sure they'd be safely in

Even if UC imploded, that would also mean Tulsa would have a stronger case for an at-large. Tulsa has beaten Temple twice this year - that's it. (And let's not forget their loss to D-II Southeast Oklahoma State).
That game worked out well for Xavier by weakening Tulsa further.

I wouldn't worry, I see Xavier winning two more games this season. Most likely I see them soiling the bed this weekend, just to get you guys on the verge of a severe March depression, then win two in the BET and almost pull off a third win to get you guys pumped up again. You will go into the NCAA tourney, probably 1 or 2 seeds above UC, but will probably lose first round, same with UC.
FYI, I am almost over my own post-shootout depression. I turned to my friend when we were up a couple points with less than a minute and told him that we will lose, it's destiny....I was right. Took my soon to his first shootout, he had a great time. Great crowd, great game, horrible result.
Also, F Dee Davis, I mean...seriously...ugh. In my best Gru voice from Despicable Me..."I hate THAT guy"

I think UC's basically a lock at this point. I believe that was their 6th win vs a Top 50 team. RPI is now 33. Even if they dropped their last 2, I think at worst they'd be in Dayton. If UConn wins the AAC tourney and steals a bid, I think it would be Tulsa's bubble that bursts, not UC.

I hate rooting for UC but we need them to win. That's a great road victory for us. I think if VD loses the next two they could be out. If we lose to Creighton we will be in the last four category.
