Might be one of the few games I remember actually thinking that Xavier was getting a ton of the calls. That said, the Jays shot more FT's. (I think)

How can we thump Butler (who just beat Providence) and struggle so hard with Creighton.

I just have so little faith in the seeding-projections, which aren't nearly as accurate as the field projections. A lot can shuffle in the conference tourneys, but I do hope you're right.
If I remember correctly, the previous years the committee has said that they pay relatively little attention to conference tournaments unless a team that they weren't anticipating to make the field ends up getting an auto-bid. So at this point, I'd say our seed is our seed.

Any conference road game where Stain is the only player in double figure scoring, LAJr leads the team in rebounding and we turn the ball over more than the other guys - and we win - is a good day. They don't have to be pretty. They just have to win.

I didn't realize that! I was glad to see him getting minutes in an important situation. He'll grow from that. Maybe next time he will appear more calm on the surface...

According the boxscore, LAJr didn't have a single rebound.

Umm, Stain led with 9 boards and Austin had 0 boards. But otherwise, agreed! Just win!

According to Xavier's automated post-game text, Stainbrook led the team with 9 rebounds. Dude came to play today.

You have to think that gets us in. A bunch of "good" wins and while we have some "bad" losses, I believe most of the +100 RPI teams we lost to aren't that far over 100. As long as we avoid that play-in game I'll be ok. I think right now now I'd put us at a 10-seed.

Listening to Mack on post game saying Austin had 11 boards. Sounded strange to me, but I do drink a lot.
He also said they are playing the tournament with 'house money'!
Also a pretty interesting comment before the game discussing how Creighton will play them defensively. Something to the effect that the BJ's are a 'scout focused' team - they play defense that best matches the team they are playing.
You mean his team doesn't?

This is the same team that was a shot away from beating Nova. This is a huge win!! 17k fans on senior night and come away with a win is awesome! IMHO if u win you didn't get outcoached. Also if X wins the Big East Tourney it will help their seed by 2 I would imagine.

Anxiety filled game, but I am ecstatic with the win. Stainbrook played an unbelievable game. He was scoring, passing and showed poise with the double teams. Big time senior effort. Dee did not have his best game, but those free throws were clutch. I thought Myles was fouled in the corner, but the ball should have never been in the coffin corner to begin with. Hopefully, that was not by design and there were no other options.
I thought Larry Austin Jr. did a nice job running the offense in the first half when Dee was out. I think Larry will be a nice player for us. He is extremely fast and athletic. The refs called a lot of fouls. There were some I did not agree with, but I think they were somewhat consistent. Although I wish the refs had let the players play a little more.
JP Macura had a big three in the first and did a nice job making his two free throws. I am not sure if he played in the second half can anyone confirm? Looked like he was struggling defensively a little bit in the first.
It's tournament time now. The cream has to rise to the top at this time of year. Good luck X.

I just looked and they called 52 fouls in this game. Wonder if that's a record for this year?
I think there were 54 fouls in the Seton Hall game.

Different teams, different matchups. I don't like the matchup against Creighton at all, but we don't need to worry about playing another bottom-feeder now.

He's horrible, but today he may have been as horrible on both sides. I'll have to check the tape to see if he truly evened it out. I thought we were done with him when we changed leagues.

You can absolutely win and still get out coached.
As far as talent is concerned Creighton is at a huge disadvantage and still came within one to almost win the game. Not only did McDermott out coach us this game he out coached at the cintas center when Creighton won with a far less superior team. Give the coach credit. That said Myles played some great defense to contest the three to win the game.

When you see that Wally Rutecki is calling a game you know you are in for a real shit show. No flow due to an excessive amount of fouls called on both teams. Also lots of overly demonstrative foul calls. He may be the worst ref in the country.

Wally Rutecki is the absolute worst! He belongs in the Colonial Athletic Conference or California Penal League. I knew we were in for a long day when I saw him on the court at tipoff.

Just answer me if you thought the last foul that sent Dee to the line was, in fact, a foul, or whether Dee did a great job "selling" it, as he admitted in the Game story.

How bad was Creighton this year? Considering this little tidbit from the Omaha paper, not as bad as some here believe:
In many ways, that’s been the story of Creighton’s season since the start of Big East play. Of the Bluejays’ 14 league losses, four have come by a point, one by two points, one by three points and one by four points.

You're being sarcastic right? The last 7 min of the first was called horrendously. There were more flops by CU during that period than a soccer match between France and Brazil. Seriously, they should change their name to the paper Jays. Origami pigeons in the student section at the 'Tas next year?
Edit: Just saw the end of the game. Kreklow is such a precious little snowflake, grab some pamprin for that shoulder "injury"

That was at least as much a foul as 4 or 5 Creighton flops that were called fouls on us earlier in the game. I get your point, but at some point you realize how the game is being called and you take advantage of it....at least that's what I would expect my senior point guard to do.

It was one of the worst officiated games I've ever watched. You could pick any 2-4 minute range and one or the other team might seem to have had the advantage. But overall it was absolutely and shitty universally.

Terrible but nothing will top the no call at the end of the SJU game in MSG. If called, X is likely now sitting at a 7 instead of a 10 seed/bubble team.

I disagree. The no call in the game at Auburn (the "All State Play Of The Game" no less) where the Auburn player takes TWO steps out of bounds right IN FRONT of the referee and "saves" the ball to another Auburn player who scores on a fast break was the worst officiating of the season. That gave the momentum to Auburn and was a big reason why they won the game.

A little like us with 25% of our losses coming in overtime. Both records could have been significantly different.

I didn't understand why Jalen wasn't in more. Some speculated on Twitter that maybe Mack was worried Jalen couldn't keep his cool (he got tied up out of bounds with a CU guard after getting burned on a bad sequence). I thought this was the perfect matchup for Jalen, but Mack clearly wanted to ride Stain. Also, as Stain fouled out the CU big men, they started to go small, so I think that dictated the lineup. Heck we had both Dee & Larry out there at the same time; wasn't expecting that. Not sure about JP, but my guess is he sat because he isn't the best in Man to Man D. Also, he tends to take bad shots that lead to run outs. Don't think that game suited him.
I'll add, except for one horrible stretch, I thought Farr played some good minutes. If Farr could stick to rebounding, solid D, while taking GOOD shots, he would play so much more. Hope he can have a great postseason for X.

If you had up ESPN's goofy box score, you will see that it adds to 69 pts.
We had 74. The missing 5 pts are Macura's.
He was 1/1 from the field for 3, and 2/2 from the line. (at least in Fox's box score)

I think Macura was benched for fouling the three point shooter and maybe the same reason why Reynolds was pulled. Mack may have been upset with both of them for foolishly fouling on 3 point shots.

You're right. My bad. Both Myles and Mack should have called a TO in anticipation of the fact that the officials were going to ignore at least two fouls and instead call a held ball even though neither of the Creighton players actually held the ball.
And I guess you also have a crystal ball that would show you exactly how the game would have played out after a timeout, starting with us inbounding the ball from the baseline corner without the inbounder being able to move. You're right -- open and shut situation from there on out.

Well...Mack at least should be familiar with "Butler Rules", which apparently they play by in Omaha.
