Apparently Saluimon was kicked off the team because of 2 sexual assault accusations that Duke knew about since last March. Wonder if anything will comes of this.

Not sure I see the "story" here. So they actually kicked the kid off the team despite no formal charges (or even a complaint) within 9 months of "learning" about the allegations, and during which he barely played in a meaningful game, and somehow that's a horrible thing because they waited too long?

Huh? He played 20 minutes/game through their first 20 games this year.

I think the point is the report is stating that the University and Coack K knew about the alleged assaults and complaint or not are required to investigate. The article states they do not know if they did investigate or not but during either the non ivestigation (which would be against the law) or during the investigation he played in 20 games (not sure why you think he didnt play in any meaningful games). He averaged 19.3 mins a game in those 20 games.
So I guess they either didnt investigate or they did but thought it was ok for him to keep playing. Obviously they felt eventually that it was something that warranted him being kicked off the team, I guess the question is why did it take so long?

1657 Nice little graphic
Why did it take so long? Probably because Coach K is untouchable and would never be and will never be held accountable for anything ever.

So, shall we await the "inevitable" Fed Title 9 investigation?

This is interesting:
"Sulaimon is still a student in good academic standing at Duke, according to the newspaper."
From the ESPN article about it.

I don't know what took so long. But I hope we have all learned via Dez Wells that just because someone makes an accusation also means that the accused should be expelled.

Yes that is true. It makes it little harder to for the player to deny when there are two separate accusations by two separate women. But doesnt guarantee guilt by any means.

What I meant was that there weren't very many meaningful games through that period (although admittedly I underestimated the number of games he played this year before being kicked off).

Yeah because even if thats what you meant that still isnt true. 10 of those 20 games he played were against teams that either are in or on the bubble in terms of the tournament, including 4 top 25 teams.

Maybe they did investigate. Maybe that investigation didn't occur within the span of a CSI episode. Maybe it took time. Especially since, maybe, the women didn't want to talk. You know, since they neither filed charges nor even lodged a complaint.
K dismissed a rotation player during a season in which they are competing for a #1 seed and a Final Four. For the first time in 35 years. I think that is pretty telling -- not that he delayed, but that in the end, after reviewing the available information, that it was the right thing to do. Maybe they could have come to that conclusion earlier. I don't know. But at least they came to the conclusion. I get that everyone loves to HATE coach K, but are we seriously reducing things down to chastising him for not kicking a kid off the team -- who was neither convicted, nor charged, nor even complained about in any formal way -- soon enough???

You are right about that. And hence my parenthetical admission.

So, Coach K and the assistants knew about this in March 2014? I actually applaud them for not acting hastily (ahem Xavier administration). However, aren't they required by law to take the accusations to the authorities or at least to the student conduct board?

Maybe the investigation/review showed other matters which led to his dismissal (eg. drugs, drinking
). IIRC, the player went to Brophy Prep ? or at least some Jesuit high school.

In the Xavier case, I believe the "victim" did at least file some sort of complaint herself. In this case, it appears to be hearsay.
Is there an investigation ongoing in the referees at St. Johns, because I one point I exclaimed that we were getting raped?
I get that there can be an investigation if there is no complaint, but I really don't understand how any action can be taken if there is no finding from the investigation.

Based only on the press accounts it appears the women did not want to file criminal charges, did not want to make a formal complaint to the university for review by the student conduct board (or whatever it's called there) and did not want to be interviewed by the press. None of that means it didn't happen. But it probably means they also didn't or wouldn't have voluntarily cooperated with an investigation either.
Other than the lapse of time -- for which there could be any number of legitimate reasons -- I just don't see the issue. Hell, the kid was kicked off the team without so much as a finding by ANY body, legal or otherwise. And we complained about Dee...
Obviously they dug and found something they didn't like. But attributing nefarious conduct within the program seems like a bit of a stretch.
Finally, lest we all forget, Duke has already been stung by false accusations before (the LAX fiasco), so I can understand their desire to take some time and make sure they got a decision with such serious ramifications for the kid right.

Because the NCAA is about to come down hard on Cleveland St. for Duke's transgressions? Ha! Nice. I like it.
