Are XU and ud admin close?

I keep hearing from ud people that XU and ud plan to move to a conference together someday, such as if the big east splits. Why would XU care about ud? I understand that ud has every reason in the world to ride X's success, but why would X care about them? Does anyone know if XU has an agreement or understanding with ud? I could care less if X left them to rot in the a-10 if X got the chance to move up.

I personally don't give a damn what happens to Dayton. Based on Dayton's past history (see Great Midwest), they don't give a damn what happens to Xavier, either. Fair enough.

My understanding is that they are basically joined at the hip. Obviously UD left the MCC to go to the Great Midwest, but they were going to be left out in the cold and not invited to C-USA. At that point, X stepped up and got them into the A10.

It makes sense. Despite the animosity among the fans, the schools are very similar academically. And they make good travel partners/rivals in whatever league they end up in.

The admins are very close. I think it was written somewhere, but if not, I can pretty much confirm that the first call Bobinski made after turning down the Rivals stuff was to Ted Kissell at UD.

Dayton leaving Xavier high and dry for the Great Midwest was wrong. It was done under the same admin that forced out the best coach the program has ever, and likely will ever see in favor of a Rick Pitino slum flavor of the day. That admin was clueless, and it showed with a 9 win performance over 2 seasons. Those several years were an embarrassment to the school and program, other than the players on the floor who played their tails off despite the growing amount of losses. I'm pretty young, but many older alums and fans I've talked to don't even like to mention the tourney win in 1990 because of how the admin ran the program at that time. Any time you talk about it they cringe. That admin sold out for the all mighty dollar above all else, which is not what Dayton is about. It bit them in the ass, and deservedly so.

I should say that to their credit, most UD fans I have seen post on the subject of conference affiliation are upfront about it, just as Adam was--they give X props for helping them out with the A10.

Even if you start in '99-00--and drop their early crappy years before it--the average RPI is 77.
