Cancelled.

Is is snowing a lot in Cincinnati? The forecast called for an inch. Seems like a convenient excuse after a loss.

It is snowing and it is cold. No excuse needed for the show. Xavier University itself is CLOSED. UC, too, as is most of the city. 4 to 8 inches overall.

You could make it around town if you really needed to. I don't think a coach's show warrants going out though.

Got it. Makes sense and sorry for the doubting.

They've even cancelled most of the schools for tomorrow. Yippee.

I sense a little sarcasm there on that "yippie."

They've cancelled a lot of stuff in Atlanta because, well, it's in the 30's and raining and they don't want to be a national embarrassment again. My office closed early today and my standing Tuesday am meeting is called off already. We just returned from a north Georgia resort (celebrating our 30th anniversary!) and I was half hoping we'd get iced in with the bar tenders and the massage team from the spa. I could take a few days of that.

I've already heard "I'm bored." It's like Toys R Us exploded in this house, and yet we've already exhausted all avenues for entertainment and still have a whole day left to go.

Happy anniversary!

I'm right there with you, lady. My seven year old boy has turned into a 13 year old girl with the whining and complaining.

I second this. Please don't give my girlfriend's daughter another day to tell me she is bored.

Sounds like some whining children have time for a fresh crash course in survival skills. Outside you will go until you learn to stop complaining. My parents might have tried such a thing on me (explaining a lot).

We used to pray for snow days and never had a problem with what to do.

You're not allowed to do that today lest the neighbors call CPS on you.

We did go outside for a bit, but it is really, really cold out there. We only stayed out for about 15 minutes before having to come back in and warm up. Thankfully, she's in a better mood today. So far, so good.

I had about 7 peopple at work take 1/2 days yesterday in order to get home early before white death.

Sorry, but I am not using vacation time for that. We ended up getting out early anyway. So, all the those folks were suckers.

We stayed open because if we "close" the office, we have to pay the hourly workers through the end of the day.

Right? Exactly what I keep saying.

Question to all you parents...

Do you feel it's your responsibility to entertain your children during snow days? I have a few friends who dreaded the idea of a snow day, because their kids are expecting them to come up with an agenda.

My parents didn't sit around and plan out my day. If I had an off day, they still ended up working. Of course this is the way I remember it. But the point is, I was expected to keep myself entertained, my parents felt it wasn't their job.

My dad, when we were young, put us through his self-made summer school, called "Crabby Daddy School". During the summer he printed off homework or gave us assignments to keep our minds fresh. During snow days, he would have a packet ready for us. That way, we weren't sitting around playing video games or getting into trouble all day long.

Despite an amazing ability to move snow in Buffalo, we had our fair share of snow days built into the school schedule. We'd actually get up an hour or two early to listen to the radio to know if we were out. Parents went off to work and it was me and my pals from the neighborhood. Sub-zero wasn't rare and no one cared. We had a blast, then wished we could have those days back when it was June and we were still in school.

I don't feel obligated, and if you asked Little LM she'd tell you that she wishes I did. But, in the interest of keeping myself sane I do, throughout the day, try to come up with fun, out of the ordinary things to do because it's not exactly super fun for me either. I'm a stay at home mom right now, so I have no outside work to go to, and unfortunately Little LM is still an only child, so things can dissolve quickly without some ideas. That said, we hardly ever go anywhere on days when school is closed (like the museum or whatever) because I HATE other peoples' children and other people. The crowds are nuts at kid friendly places like that when school is closed. So, we make our own fun here. The little girl from up the street came over today. They used koolaid to paint snow, made chocolate chip cookies, had a dance contest, and then played Barbies. Nothing extraordinary, but they seemed to have fun.

82, where in Buffalo are you from? I grew up in the western 'burbs of Rochester and spent my fair share of time in Buffalo...

Despite the fact that this is the internet, WE are other people and I'm sure many will cry themselves to sleep tonight.

We used to "paint snow" too, or at least write our names in it, but we were boys, and apparently a bit older. Much of my day was cancelled despite nary a flake or even a little patch of ice. Bad day for the AMC movie theater to malfunction and close. Schools were closed and the arcade was packed downstairs!

Very early years were in Hamburg, but moved to Williamsville/East Amherst (almost to Lockport!) later and loved it. Went to St. Joes HS toward town. Had two lives, the kids I lived near and the ones I went to school with.
