Surprised nobody's started a thread about his passing. Say what you will about him, but he was one helluva coach and had some of the most entertaining teams I've ever seen.
Great article by Dan Whetzel. I'm sure there are dozens more stories about him.

After Wooden's UCLA run they were nothing if not a breathe of fresh air.
And the bad boys to Dean Smith's "squeaky clean" Tar Heel teams of the same era.

Say what you want about the guy, but he took a true mid-major, UNLV, and made them an absolute powerhouse.

If not for UCLA, Tarkanian would have had Long Beach State in the Final 4 in the early '70s. He went to the Elite 8 twice in 4 seasons with the 49ers.

If you want to know why college basketball is terrible, not having guys like Tark in the game are a HUGE reason.
