View Full Version : X -7.5 v. Providence

Books must think X bounces back...or they play like their backs are against the wall. Higher line than I was expecting. Books have really given X a lot of respect this year with their lines. I'm going to wait and see the line movement on this one before I decide to play or pass.

Thoughts?

I'd take the points, but I won't bet against Xavier.

Take Providence on the money line.

Looks like it has already dropped to 6.5.

Wow. This is very surprising with how we've played throughout the Big East. I was thinking X by 2.

Public pounding Providence early. Line holding steady at -7/-7.5. Unless there is some huge line movement tomorrow, I'm taking X or passing.

As I mentioned in other posts, X is doing very well in the computer metrics (KenPom, Sagarin). My concern is with Dunn and Henton, PC has the two best players on the court.
But I'm an optimist, the run to a great season begins tomorrow.

This is my 1,000 post, see you 10,000 guys in 63 years.

Not sure books take computer metrics into consideration...I think they have their own info. You are talking match ups...which makes a lot of sense....but at this point, I just watch the line.

Congrats on your 1000ith post.

But I've found the more advanced metrics, like KenPom and Sagarin match up to the line better than anything else. Sagaring would have us about 4 point favorites, while KenPom at 9.

Why not? I love betting against Xavier. Either they win the game and I am happy, or if they lose at least you have some consolation of winning some $$$$. I am all over Providence on this one.

Take the points. No way we cover that.

It's always interesting when Vegas goes against the money. Have the sharps weighed in yet?

I'm wondering, though - what will you do if the line goes to 11?

Line is down to -6.5 at most places. Don't think the sharps have hit it yet. If it goes back up in the next hour, they are on X. Right now it's a pass for me. However, if "this one goes to 11," im all over X.

At this point, an X win would be the icing on the cake for me. My 7 year old scored 20 pts in his game this morning. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. He's good...but this morning he was really aggressive and confident. Went 10-12 from the field. I'm one proud papa/coach.

Still holding at -6.5. I'm thinking X comes to play today but 6.5 is still a lot of points. Tough call, but the fan in me will probably pull the trigger.

Nice game for your 7 year old. 20 points at that age is quite an accomplishment. My 3rd grade girls team is hard pressed to get that for the game at times.

Congrats and enjoy those days thoroughly! They went by much too fast for my liking.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I'm going to cherish today. Don't think I'll be seeing something like that from one of my kids for a long time. Hope im wrong...it's not like the other team was playing much defense, but 10-12 from a 7 year old playing on a 9 foot hoop is great if he was shooting by himself in the driveway.

Going to pass on -6.5. May make a 2nd half bet based on what I see in the first half.

Vegas oddsmakers are like "Ya see what we did there? Thanks for your contribution."

Couple minutes before tipoff, I did the same and pulled the trigger. Of course, this doesn't come close to what I lost on the 2nd half bet I put on XU in the 2nd half against Creighton. Got crushed Wednesday.

I bet the Creighton game, too. That game was a killer in more ways than one.

Nice comeback with the bets today, especially that second half one.
