Do we want a bye in the first round and possibly end up losing the first game or do we want to play in the first round and hopefully get another win before the NCAA Tournament?

Bye. A win over Creighton, DePaul or Marquette isn't going to do us any good. And we might lose.

Is this real question?

We want to finish above .500 in the league reg season, win at least one in the tourney, bye or no. No bye, need to win at least two and still be playing on Friday.

And yes it's a legit question for a team on the bubble.

its a fair question. But I want the first round bye just because it means we finished the regular season a little bit better off. Regardless, probably gonna have to win at least 1 game in the conference tournament.

We are ~2/3rds thru the league all told. Crystal ball looking like 4,5 or 6 seed for Xavier. Will be extremely difficult to get past Butler, Villanova in the standings now. Georgetown's schedule looks "easier" compared to others heading down the stretch as well. Seton Hall looks "harder" and DePaul is also battling for position in this range.

I was wondering the same thing....

It may be a fair question, but it's a ridiculous question. Getting an "extra win" against a team that will probably miss the NIT won't help us at all. Finishing 7th place or worse will certainly hurt us more than beating a team who is going nowhere will help us. It's not even close. If we end up playing in the opening round, we'll probably be needing to win all four games.

Need the bye, man. A finish below 6th in the league is a bad look.

If Xavier wins out they would likely finish 2nd or 3rd, one loss 4th, two losses 5th or 6th, 3 losses 7th or 8th. They control own destiny.

Here's how the Big East tournament would look as of today:

FIRST ROUND (Wednesday, March 11)
Game 1: (7) Seton Hall vs. (10) Creighton
Game 2: (8) St. John's vs. (9) Marquette

QUARTERFINAL ROUND (Thursday, March 12)
Game 3: (1) Villanova vs. St. John's/Marquette
Game 4: (4) Georgetown vs. (5) Xavier
Game 5: (2) Butler vs. Seton Hall/Creighton
Game 6: (3) Providence vs. (6) DePaul

SEMIFINAL ROUND (Friday, March 13)
Game 7: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner
Game 8: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner

CHAMPIONSHIP (Saturday, March 14)
Game 9: Semifinal winners

It's a nice draw devoid of trap games, but could Xavier defeat Georgetown a 3rd time?

I don't want anything to do with G'Town. I can't see how X beats them 3 times in a row.

Why? We matchup perfectly against them. We have a DSR stopper and a Josh Smith stopper. Our other guys shake out well with them too.

That sweep was no fluke. Double digits each time.

I'd much rather play Georgetown than Providence.

Georgetown a third time? Yes, please. They're the only team in the top half of the league I have much confidence in us winning a game against outside Cintas Center.
