Sounds like larry just let the boys play ball without going to class.

No. No I don't. When was that?

2004, when the "The Right Way" really meant "Have A Lot Of Talent That People Underrate"
No. No I don't. When was that?
I believe that was job #342 out of 516. I could be off a bit, but I think it was in there somewhere.
Actually, I thought he was known at one time as a great (or at least very good) basketball mind. He must be his own worst enemy as he never stuck anywhere.

I think he probably is a "great (or at least very good) basketball mind." But I'm not sure he EVER did it the "right way."
Certainly not at the collegiate level. His 2 years at UCLA were marred by NCAA violations that led to having a Final Four appearance vacated, and as a parting gift at Kansas he left a post-season ban preventing them from defending their national title. Looks like he's going to go 3-for-3 at the college level: 3 jobs, 3 NCAA penalties (his job at Davidson doesn't count; he left before ever coaching a game in what must be the shortest stint in a career full of short stints).
So, is he related to Calipari in any way? This could be genetic.

Calipari and Bill Self worked under Larry Brown at Kansas. Both Cal and Self have reputations of circumventing rules. They must have learned it from Brown who has broken rules at all of his college stops. SMU knew what they were getting when they hired Brown. The NCAA is unlikely to come down harsh on UNC. They might come down harsh on SMU to make it look like they are doing something.

What are the accusations against Self?

What are the accusations against Self?
The main accusation about Self has been the association with the pump brothers and the pump brothers funneling players to the KU program. Since Self has arrived in Lawrence there have been guys like Darnell Jackson and Josh Shelby that were suspended for receiving improper benefits. Self has not been directly caught, but there has been a lot of smoke coming from his program. Maybe it is all just bad luck.
I put some links below. The first one is from Yahoo about the Kansas ticket scandal involving the Pumps and KU Basketball. It does not directly implicate Bill Self in anything, but it gives an idea about how ingrained the pumps were into the Kansas program. The second link is asking why Calipari is perceived as the bad guy while Bill Self is not. The third and fourth link are about improper benefits received by KU Basketball players. The last link if true just portrays Self as an A## Hole. Self has never had to forfeit games like Calipari or Larry Brown. There are more articles out there, if you are really curious.

He found a muskrat by the side of the road and had it fashioned into the world's least believable toupee.

I wonder what the Larry Brown told AD when he was hired as far as sticking around. The guy pactically lives out of his suitcase with the number of stops he has had in his coaching career. Longest job was w/ 76'ers from 1997-2003. The guy is also 74. No way he sticks around at SMU.

One of his assistants is supposed to take over if/when Larry leaves.

Just saw Jeff Goodman tweet that SMU is self-imposing a postseason ban. Things must be really out of control.
Edit: And the players refused to practice today when they learned about it.... now its really out of control.

That's Southern Miss, not Southern Methodist.

Southern Miss is banning itself because of actions from the Donnie Tyndall regime. Not that it would mean much this year, but what would happen if Tyndall somehow gets Tennessee to the NCAA Tournament (if he survives up to that point)?
SMU is now going to be on the bubble for reasons not relating to on-court performance.
