It's about time for the MLS Superdraft. (Thursday January 16). I've not seen any mocks with any Musketeers so far. But several have Big East Opponents getting drafted.

How much do MLS players get paid? When I was at SLU there was a freshman and sophomore who both left school early because they were drafted to the MLS. Must make at least a decent living?

Average player salary for mls is 166k..problem is that 76% of players make less than that....minimum salary is 36.5k. I'm sure there are a number of guys who make 100 plus but you probably have to be in the league for a while.

I think average is like 50-60k. A lot of the pay is incentive based.

Well, LA is bringing the Reds captain over in the summer, and I'm sure he's making a boatload.

I look at this every year. The league structure is dumb. They want parity, but LA has 2 guys making over $4,000,000. Columbus' highest salary is $580,000.

Obviously, he'll make exponentially more this year, but DeAndre Yedlin made $92,000 last season. And people were mad that we couldn't keep possession vs. Belgium. We bring a guy off the bench making 90k, they bring a guy off the bench with a transfer value of $40,000,000.

MLS also has a salary cap. I don't believe most of the leagues in Europe have one. (We can argue I guess that Financial Fair Play is a cap I guess). Until American Soccer clubs are strong enough to stand on their own (and get away from the single entity system of MLS) there will be some sort of cap.

I know that. It wasn't a knock on MLS, just a knock on unrealistic expectations of people who expected us to be able to play toe to toe with Belgium.

In total agreement. The unfortunate reality of MLS and NASL are that if you get young players of real consequence they likely will at some point go overseas.

I think the salary cap is somewhere around $3.5 mil but if you look at last year team salaries below there are teams that are way above that. This was from April and probably changed a little but not a lot. MLS has so many ridiculous rules that somehow justify this. I just don't know what they are.

1 Toronto FC $15,609,766.50
2 LA Galaxy $12,291,473
3 New York Red Bulls $10,195,154
4 Seattle Sounders $9,633,959
5 Vancouver Whitecaps $5,411,558
6 Montreal Impact $4,578,914
7 FC Dallas $4,130,404
8 San Jose Earthquakes $3,975,580
9 Philadelphia Union $3,921,099
10 Portland Timbers $3,773,918.12
11 D.C. United $3,634,922
12 Sporting Kansas City $3,499,162
13 Real Salt Lake $3,486,519
14 Chicago Fire $3,390,587
15 Columbus Crew $3,245,007.50
16 Houston Dynamo $3,224,869
17 Colorado Rapids $3,037,058
18 Chivas USA* $2,933,741.04
19 New England Revolution $2,884,403

Yep. And Toronto will be near or at the top again this year, basically swapping Defoe for Jozy. Trying to understand some MLS rules (like how Jermaine Jones went to New England) is an exercise in futility.

And Steven Gerrard magically going to LA or any older excellent player getting put on 1 of the expansion teams. It's pretty ridiculous. Cubo Torres also going to Houston was fixed by MLS as well after he was designated a DP when Chivas started their 2 year hiatus.

The DP's salary only counts for so much under the cap. You can pay them more than that, if you have the funds (I think I've make it overly simplified).

Can someone explain to me the advantage and disadvantage of taking a Generation Adidas Player?

I'd love it if Osswald comes off the board soon.

Generation Adidas players don't count toward your roster. Home Grown players sign Generation Adidas contracts. The downside for the player is once you sign a GA contract, you can't play college soccer anymore.

Really. He had an outstanding camp, or whatever they call their evaluation days. He's a helluva goalkeeper and I think someone will snatch him up. His stock is rising quickly.

No Musketeers taken in the final rounds of the Super Draft.

Ozzy will get picked up, he's a very good shot stopper, and have a great arm, kicking could use some work. I'm sure Will Walker will get some looks too, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out, but the more Muskies professionally makes it better for the program.

ammtd34

I think Osswald will get picked up, too, but his distribution won't really be why. He's a really good decision maker in the air on crosses, which isn't easy to find. Shot stoppers are a dime a dozen, but someone who can read crosses is much more valuable.

He threw the ball late in the season because his leg was hurt. The distance on it is a little above average, but that doesn't necessarily matter anyway. When his leg heals, teams will want to see him drive balls that distance with his feet, so how far a GK can throw isn't really important.

I wonder if he'll get look from MLS, NASL, or USLPro?

I'd love to have him in Indy, but we are set up at Goal (although we do need a back up).

Not to hijack this thread, but Kristian Nicht in goal is about the only place where we (Indy Eleven) are set!

Very true.
