I read it with my New Years Day wake up coffee and while there were a couple of shots at the officials, generally speaking they were all over FOX for the New Years eve 10 pm (ET) start, and were thankful the game was in Cincinnati as "There would be 100 GT fans showing up if the game was in DC."
They also said there would be but a thousand or two at Cintas, and that with over a thousand tickets left, coupled with season ticket holders who wouldn't show up, Cintas would be deserted.
Post game, many posters marveled at the packed house, and credited Xavier fans for providing the energy for the Xavier win.
And here was a classic from one poster ... "Xavier fans are more loal than GT fans."
That is a super credit to all of the Xavier Nation.

Not surprising, I guess. I don't know how many people that go to GTown games are actual GTown affiliated /alumni or how many just show up to watch basketball. I would guess that the old Big East had their rivalries and Syracuse and UCon were always huge games.
It may take awhile for GTown games against XU and Creighton, for example, to build to that type of rivalry level, but if the league keeps growing and there is post season success, it will.

unless the old hoya games were against Syracuse, Louisville, and whenever they played a team like Duke, they are not very well attended by everyday fans. but part of that problem is that they play those games at the Verizon Center and not a hoyas' only facility built to their size needs.

The few teams you mention is surprising to me, because from my vantage point watching all the college basketball I could in the late 80s/early 90s, the teams from Seton Hall, St. Johns, Maryland, and pretty much most of the Big East were a bigger deal and much bigger ticket than Georgetown was until Patrick Ewing became a star on the early ESPN push of the league. UCONN soon followed. Those games seemed packed for any league rival.
Maybe Georgetown was bigger than I thought and fans didn't give a shit about those Big East matchups, but I thought most of those games were well attended because the competition was respected.

Would they care enough to bother?
