Probably not a popular response but I'm quite unhappy with the game time. We always go to the game with our kids and I'm not dragging them out that late at night to attend anything. As we have no family in town, we can't even use babysitting services. I loved, loved, loved the noon time that we had last year.

I think they are going to have trouble filling the 10PM slot up, and wishing they went for the 2PM.
The noon game last year was filled pretty nicely, although there were pockets in upper level that were empty. I think they could fill a 2PM game even more. People work half day, able to get to 2PM game with their families. And then still have all evening for regular NYE's traditions with family/friends, dinner etc. Also for the younger/student crowd, I think it'd work better as the game will be out by 4:30, so there's still time to do whatever for New Year's Eve after.
Looking at ticketmaster, there are still a ton of tickets left. There are 5 or 6 sections where half the entire section is open. Probably 1,000+ tickets. And this is after the 50% off Black Friday special, as well as a week of this NYE pre-game party running.

Do we even have a say in the time or does the conference just say who is playing at each time on NYE?

I just looked on Goxavier.com and Ticketmaster and they are showing about 100-150 seats left scattered about the upper sections?
Did you go to the Creighton game a few years ago ?
I think it was an 8:00 start time.........great crowd and great game!

2pm, 4pm, 6pm would have been great. Noon would have been fine, but maybe a little bit early for some people.
10pm sucks. While I don't go out and "party" on New Year's Eve, I do spend the evening with friends and family. A 10pm tip makes it impossible to do both. Probably will be selling my tickets for this one and watching on TV. Bad scheduling idea here X.

I will be there will bell's on. An earlier game woudn't have worked for me as I am working until 2:00 pm. Can't please everyone I guess. The Creighton game a few years ago was fantastic but that was an 8:00 start time I believe.
On a side note, I watched the double OT K-state NCCA game last night (because there was not much on and I am a dork). What a fantastic game. Tu and Jordan and Pullen made some sick sick shots that night. I also wanted to punch Len Elmore in the face. He is horrible.

The whole LM family will be there, including Little LM. We stay up until midnight anyway, and she's right along for that ride so the time is no big deal to us. We employ naps earlier in the day and sleep in on New Year's Day, so it's all good. In year's past, we've gone to the earlier game and then had a little party back at our house after. Now I don't have to clean up the next day after everyone.

Ask for a group rate, that will save money for NYE beverages and make the crowd louder.

And they decided to go with a home game in the Eastern Time Zone that begins at 10pm on NYE?!
The New Year will arrive with about 3 minutes left in the game. I hope it is not a distraction during play and I wonder if a lot of folks will leave at halftime.
Georgetown is one of the best home games on the schedule and we get them at 10pm on NYE. Really bad choice for the schedulers at X!

I doubt it. People who wanna be home for midnight or some party wont come for 1 hour of the game and leave at 11.
(I should say no more than the usual will leave at halftime! I am constantly amazed at the amount of people who leave Cintas early every game, no matter what the score. Gotta beat that Cintas Center "traffic"!)

Unfortunately I will not be able to watch any of the game until the next day as I will be at a wedding.
I am going to go for the no looking at the score and try and watch it the next day without knowing anything scenario. I have completed this numerous times with a lot of effort. One of my more disappointing fails however was at work several years ago. X was playing UD in the A10 tournament, day game, and almost everyone at work knew I was recording it for later. I was finishing up paperwork and getting ready to leave as one therapist I hadnt seen that day walks into the therapy gym and looks at me and says "Sorry about Xavier." My co workers were like "Noooooooo" and I was so sad. She had no idea what she did until they told her I was waiting until going home to watch. Ugh

I love the 10pm start on NYE. NYE is overrated in my book. Primetime game and a big game at that. Need a win.
The 10:00pm start would be later than I'd really like to attend (especially on NYE), but it's perfect for me at home on my couch. We usually stay close to home on NYE unless I'm on a zero beverage policy. Even then, there are a lot of fools on the road. One zero beverage NYE I was at a checkpoint (thrilled about my "zero-ness") and saw a huge parking lot filled with people. The cop asked where I was going (home) and what my address was. When told I could go, I mentioned that was pretty simple. He pointed to the parking lot and said "those are all people who couldn't do what you just did". They would not be sleeping at home in their beds that night, and they would be spending tens of thousands on attorneys. I was SHOCKED by how many people they had nabbed. Be careful folks, it's not just you that you have to worry about.

12-17-2014, 11:47 PM
I remember at a bar one night a couple young guys bragging about having just beat a checkpoint while hammered. They're driving a beater car, so I ask if they have jobs? No. So you have any money? No.
So I'm thinking.. Well, that explains that.
This wasn't that long ago - the hardass crackdown on DUI era. When I was young though, back in the olden days, I regularly got off. One time the cop was looking for anyone who could legally drive the car away, but all four persons in my car failed. So I said "give me the test again". He did! I passed and drove off. I swear this actually happened. I also had no job.
Moral of the story. Quit your job.

so, i'll be enjoying Xavier's buffet all by myself then.
Waggy, that's pretty damn funny. The only time I've caused an accident I was 17 and going to buy more beer to take back to the party at my house. I rear ended someone at a red light (I could have sworn they were going to get an arrow!). Cops came, no big deal. I've seen cops follow people home just to be sure they made it safe. For better or worse, times have changed. One of my sons got a DUI for blowing a .082 - FL legal limit .08 - (while unemployed but in college) and getting caught going through a yellowish light. It was after midnight and he was easy prey. That's about two beers, I believe. Twenty grand (plus) later, it's some reduced charge and they threw in getting a couple other tickets scratched. What a deal! After midnight, NYE, etc. they are out there looking for anyone with a couple drinks in them. I'm very careful these days, much more than I was in the past.

I'm guessing you mean .082? Because a .82 is not two beers, unless he weighs 50lbs.

First they oversold it so there is not enough seating or food for everybody. How do you mess this up. You know how many people signed up!
Then it's all appetizer crap. Several folks asking when dinner is going to be served only to hear this is dinner.
The. Mood is turning ugly.

That's a pretty big screwup, glad they're partially owning up to it.

Gut check time. Haven't won close games all year. Don't make this one close.

Besides the "dinner" I thought the New Years experience was great. It was different being in the middle of a basketball game when midnight came. But it was fun nonetheless. I wouldn't want to do it every year, but glad I got to experience it.

I take it the dinner sucked? I haven't heard any reviews, curious to see how it went.

To be fair, I didn't go. I'm going based on Coaster's review (who is a gentleman and a scholar) and the rumblings I heard at Cintas.

It wasn't a massive failure, but it was certainly not a success. They didn't have enough room set aside for everyone who registered. They didn't have enough food prepared either, and the kitchen was behind all night.
I still had a good time, but a lot of people were upset. I was a bit disappointed, but not angry about it.

I hit the Pub at Rookwood w/ my wife, SurfXU and his wife and his sister and brother in-law. Food was good there. Game was a blast. There was a group of co-eds in front of us at the game that had party favors and hats and they snuck some champagne in and shared it w/ anyone who wanted some. We counted down, shot some of the those string/confetti things off and had some cocktails, all while watching the Muskies handle the Hoyas. I will take that any day.

How do you call by your own statement: not enough food and not enough seating anything other than a failure. Two very key elements to a "dinner".

Yeah, I didn't attend the "dinner," but it didn't seem like a price point I wanted to pay for food by the bite. Those type of affairs rarely have seating for everyone. Too bad most of the folks signing up for events like this at Xavier probably need to sit more than stand.
I did really enjoy being at a Xavier game for the midnight celebration. It helps that they were winning, but I think this would be more enjoyable for me than most bars/parties with people getting plastered because they think that's what you do on NYE.
I did want to go to The Woodward for the Bobby Bare Jr / Wussy concert, but hey...a victory over GU is something special.

To bring closure to the whole dinner thing. They are, in fact, doing full refunds plus a concession voucher. I note the apology letter came from Cintas Center catering.

Interesting, I don't remember such an offer for anything before. The dinner must have been a complete an utter failure if they are giving full refunds.
Sucks you had to suffer through that mess Coaster.

So you actually come out ahead for having endured that. Must have been pretty bad. Hopefully they learn from the experience.
