Any updates on how JP is doing? Curious to know if he'll be ready to go tomorrow.

No news from Cali but it was perhaps a bruised tailbone. Nothing horrible. Maybe sit or in his case stand out, rest and ice for a game or 2.

I cant imagine his head isnt killing him too. I said that night I'd be surprised if he plays tomorrow and wouldnt be surprised if he was out for the tournament. Hopefully it wasnt as bad as it looked.

You do realize they already said it wasn't as bad as it looked. Its a back bruise. No concussion from what I understand. Fluker and his staff know exactly what they're doing.

I heard what Mack said after the game about him complaining more about his back. I didnt see anywhere where they said he didnt have a concussion. Do you have a link to that? (not saying you dont would just like to read it).

I have no doubt Dave Fluker knows what he is doing.

I would still be surprised (not knowing any of the medical results, just from what I saw) after the hit he took on his back and head if he played tomorrow.

Agreed, I'd like to see a link or something also- just because I haven't seen an update yet and TUclutch must have.

Pretty sure in the past when Dee and J Mart got concussions they kept them in locker room...

It certainly looked like a concussion to me, but I'm no doctor. It seems like a good sign from a concussion standpoint, that he came back to the bench and sat there for the remainder of the game in a bright and loud environment. At the very least, it was a seriously hit to the head, and analyzing the effects of that can be very tricky. I think a "better safe than sorry" approach is appropriate for JP, and that seems to be the trend with all athletic head injuries anyway. I'd also be interested to know if there's any proof that suggests he did not get a concussion. Just because Mack noted that it was more of a back injury doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't a head injury. I guess we'll know soon enough. I just hope and trust that they're extra careful with him. He's got a bright four year future here. No need to take even a small risk with him in November.

I thought it was pretty clear on replay that his head never hit the ground (not hard at least). To be fair, concussions can be had from whiplash, but he clearly just landed hard on his lower back.

Really? I thought it was pretty clear that his head hit the ground. It wasn't head first but it definitely hit.

This.

Mack was stating that JP told him his back hurt more than his head and it was right after the game. That means nothing in the grand scheme of things. I suspect Tuclutch is going off that because I havent seen any written update on JP and no one else has posted one. I do think thats a positive sign that he came back out but that doesnt mean he didnt have a concussion. They probably did a scan on him to check it out. He hit his head really hard.

No I thought that at first too but my wife was sure his head hit so I did a slow-mo replay and his head definitely hit and bounce right off the floor. If you have the game recorded go back and take another look.

Yeah it was his tailbone/low back right before the head but the whole back of his head hit the ground then bounced back up.

Justin Martin will likely miss a few uncoming games due to that hard landing that Macura sustained.

JMart came back out to the bench after sustaining his concussion. I remember because he was apparently begging to be let back in.

Keep in mind that Mack also likes to play these things close to his chest, keep his opponents guessing on the status of a player until tip.

per Shannon Russell, Macura practiced today.

Thats good, I am assuming that probably means full practice and not just shoot around which would bode well for JP.

I am glad to hear that Mach allowed Macura to practice and not keep him in bed or something. They must have scanned him already and found that the injury is not too serious.

Which proves he had a concussion and should not have been let back in the game.

We should drop him on his head more often. It seems to work.

The latest Macura update is that he is now glossed "Microwave". Microwave Macura.

Why? Because he comes in and immediately heats stuff UP!

I'm hoping that those guys who used to "adopt" players (e.g. Lionel's choo-choos) adopt "microwave"....maybe come as microwave-heads.

From Shannon:

J.P. MICROWAVE: Stainbrook said in the main game story that J.P. Macura might as well be called 'microwave' because he instantly heats up.

But before asking Macura about his 11 points in less than two minutes, I wanted to know about that dreadful fall against Murray State, and what it was like from his perspective.

Said Macura: "I was a little bit shocked. I thought I was going to be seriously injured and then I got up and my head didn't really hurt at all. I was scraped up from the fall but I'm doing good now. My back's a little sore. That's it."

He has participated in every team activity (except for the last eight or nine minutes of that Racers game when trainers were checking him out).

The freshman's toughness has been apparent from that injury to today's game, when he returned quickly after cutting his finger inadvertently during play.

"We've got a lot of tough kids but J.P., he doesn't back down to anybody. It's why we recruited him," coach Chris Mack said. "He plays with a chip on his shoulder. Feels like he belongs with anybody out on the floor. Feels like he's the best player. And sometimes we've got to tone him down a little bit, but I'd rather have a guy you've got to tone down than a guy that doesn't have enough talent. His teammates love him. He's an emotional kid. He's got to get better in all areas but he can shoot the ball. He can score it and he is not afraid."

I doubt it. Is Vinnie your cousin?
