Redshirt freshman Walker Andriot (http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/walker_andriot_854974.html) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday after putting away the game-winning goal on Saturday in a 3-0 win versus Villanova.
The result gave the ninth-ranked Musketeers (11-4-2, 5-1-2 BIG EAST) three critical points, as the side enters the final weekend of the regular season tied for second in the BIG EAST.
Andriot found the net off a cross from Will Walker (http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/will_walker_761183.html) at the 5:51 mark, putting Xavier ahead 1-0 in its second straight win over Villanova. Saturday’s goal was Andriot’s second game-winner of the season. The midfielder started both games this week for the Musketeers, playing 142 minutes and recording a pair of shots.
It was the first Rookie of the Week honor for the Shelbyville, Ky. native. Andriot had previously been named to the league's weekly honor roll on Sept. 29. In addition, it was the fourth Rookie of the Week award for men's soccer. Matt Vasquenza (http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/matt_vasquenza_905894.html) has earned the recognition twice, whileCory Brown (http://www.goxavier.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/cory_brown_905860.html) has also received it once.
