Any review on the new bookstore? Better selections?

It is impressive. The size of the bookstore, the selection, the number of different throw pillows you can buy...much needed addition to campus. They also have a huge Starbucks IN the bookstore, so you can get your lattes and yuppy drinks. The prices seemed reasonable and they have better parking options for someone who is driving from an off campus location.

I like the fact they put the store right on Mongtomery Road (corner of Cleneay/Herald and Montgomery) where the Woods used to be. The road is like another entry on to our campus, and I think it is great to have a bookstore filled with Xavier gear right when you enter the campus.

A lot more NIKE selections.

Also they are selling a stitched, white #1 Xavier basketball jersey (who could that be!?) for $100. Also the number 0 navy non-stitched ones are still available.

Did you every go to The Woods? No ID was ever needed

Mother Cooley XU'81 worked at the bookstore in old, old student center what only seems a blink ago.

She was . . . and continues to be . . . beautiful to behold.

The selection is definitely better - especially if you're trying to get your kids into X gear. Additionally, since it's a larger space, one no longer feels like one is shopping in a can of sardines. The pillow selection is weirdly large. Were there that many people in need of throw pillows? Who knew there was such an untapped market? (But, in full disclosure we did buy two for our family room.)

I think there's only 2, maybe 3, different styles if I'm remembering correctly, but the way they're displayed makes it look like a ton of pillows. I don't remember seeing any in the old bookstore, but I used to get annoyed by how many people were squeezed in there trying to shop, so I may not have been paying much attention.

Well, OK then. Now I understand.

With this new, improved, large bookstore, it sure would be nice if they stocked some heavy winter jackets with X logo.
Or just one, at least.

I second that. We went from having almost nothing to choose from, to having more cool Nike gear than I can buy (although I will try my best). I'll bet between my wife, myself, and our son, that we spend $1500 there this year.

I would still like to see a wider variety of vendors and items at the Bookstore. Nike is all fine & good but there are other brands out there and just because XU is a Nike school doesn't mean they can't carry other brands. I've seen other schools do it.

Depends on the deal. Most don't allow competitive brands (Adidas, Reebok, UnderArmor, etc.) but will allow lower cost brands.

Well, I have to admit I haven't been in the Marquette bookstore for 2 years but when I was there last, they had Nike, Converse (owned by Nike), Under Armour, Cutter & Buck, Champion, Gear, Antigua, Ping, etc.

It is much better than it used to be but X needs to licence more stuff. That is basically my point. I see a lot of UC and Ohio State stuff in stores and I say to myself, I would buy that if it was Xavier.

along those lines, I always felt like the only place to get X stuff was on campus. Maybe it has gotten better in the last ten years or so, but according to the new website, X gear is available at all of these locations (link (http://www.goxavier.com/ot/putonthex.html)).

Does anyone know if the new All For One store will have an on-line catalogue, or is it just the Xavier University Bookstore on-line site? Would love to see what they have, but don't know when I'll get to Cincinnati again.

EDIT: Nevermind, I think it's just here: http://www.bkstr.com/xavierstore/home

Go back twenty years when I was at X. Your choices to get stuff were pretty much the bookstore, the bookstore, or even the bookstore. If you found something off site, it was surely unlicensed, and was usually just close enough to be X gear. I recall asking about it then and being told that X was very protective of their licensing.

Vineyard Vines and Peter Millar as well, although that stuff is very pricey (although also very nice).

I'm a fan of Nike stuff so I am pretty happy with the selection. Xavier is never going to be UK where you can walk into a TJ Maxx and buy a Polo for $25. I expect to pay high prices for their stuff. My general experience with the Nike gear has been that it is pretty durable, so you get years of wear out of it.

It's pricey, but I would love Vineyard Vines to make a Xavier tie. They have some pretty sweet ones for other universities.

The 'store' that you get to through GoXavier.com is an absolute joke. Less than 1/2 of the stuff available in the AFO store is on there. The Xavier bookstore site is better, but still very much lacking.

I will say that Xavier's stores (whether goxavier.com or the bookstore) continue to be severely lacking in their listing of stock and order fulfillment. Through the past few years and up to very recently, my wife has ordered stuff through Xavier for me as gifts for various holidays, and virtually every time, after receiving acknowledgment that her order had been accepted, she would receive an e-mail 1-2 weeks later saying the item she purchased was no longer in stock and would not be reordered.

In general, Xavier does offer some great stuff (especially over the last few years), but it tends to go quickly and once it's gone, you won't see it again.

And you generally have to go to the book store to get it. Hopefully they get there eventually. Right now they have a lot of room for improvement.
