Xavier men’s soccer shut out its fourth straight opponent, battling Providence to a 0-0 result at the Friar Track Complex on Saturday.
With the draw, XU remained unbeaten in its past four and moved to 6-3-1 overall (1-0-1 BIG EAST). The Friars, who went to the BIG EAST Championship game and the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013, moved to 5-2-1 and 0-0-1 in their 2014 league opener.
The Musketeers made some history in the match, holding a fourth straight opponent scoreless to tie a program record set in 1988. The stingy defense runs back a month now for Xavier, as the team has blanked six of its past seven opponents. In the team’s last 667:15 of play, Xavier has allowed just one goal. The last team to find the net in regulation against XU was Bradley, coming back on September 4.

One month without allowing a goal in regulation is awesome!

Progress. Going to a tough away venue and getting a result is key, now they must take care of business against Pittsburgh on tuesday, a team that isn't that impressive. I think going forward that this team can continue getting results and as long as they don't lose to two out of the top three (Creighton, Marquette, and Georgetown) that an NCAA bid is on the horizon.
