David West grits his teeth and growls as he gallops less like a gazelle these days, but more like a rhino. He's 34 years old now, and he has done the math.
When he was younger, West marked a career goal of playing 10 years in the league. This is his 12th NBA training camp. Call it overtime in a career that has produced 15.9-point scoring and 7.2 rebounding averages, two All-Star appearances and a deserved reputation as one of the last true tough guys in the league.
Still, as West high-knees it up and down the court, he can see the light at the end of the tunnel shining brighter and brighter.

I cannot wait to give this man a standing ovation in two weeks. Such an amazing ambassador for X.

He was always soft.

I loved the old A10 voy board.

Maybe the Pacers will trade him to a contender. That would be nice.

Waleskowski's head was soft too, after DFW dropped a cool 47 on it.

Looking at the article it doesn't appear thats what he wants at all.

I don't see much of a chance West gets traded but I guess you never know. The Pacers were already on the decline with their current core, IMO. Now their superstar is out for a very long time, their psychopathic SG is gone, and they are left with a 34 year old beast, an enigmatic giant, and little else. Making the playoffs is certainly no guarantee for Indiana this year. I'm having trouble even thinking of what other truly guys could emerge as truly good players other than West and Hibbert. George Hill is a joke and the rest of the guys are just guys. I hate to think that David West's final days might be stuck in purgatory, because PG isn't coming back anytime soon, and who knows how long (if ever) it takes for him to return to the league's elite.

That would make me sad. He's the only reason I would go to a Pacers game.

It's really all about me. It doesn't really matter what West wants.
