Very suspicious. What was Dez Wells doing with a textbook?

The skinny little calculus text books scared me far more than a big history text book, but it could be far more helpful if you need to level out a table leg.

Just read about this in the Sporting News.

And he's upset, why? Because his picture appears in it, and he got no money? Get a clue, son. You want to make some money? Try WRITEING a text book.

He still wouldn't be allowed to do that as a NCAA athlete.

I think that is his point. The authors are making bank, so they shouldn't get to use his image for free.

Ha, relax guys. I strongly doubt Dez legitimately thinks he deserves royalties for this. He was dropping a very famous movie line and was joking. He isn't upset. In fact, he probably thinks it's pretty funny, and so do I. I am always amused by highly random things like that.

When Dez finishes WRITEING (sic) his textbook, he will likely not select you as his editor.

I certainly hope he's not upset, because that's exactly what it is...a random occourance. Pretty sure the author of the text book isn't going to sell anymore of the books because Dez Wells has his picture in it. Could have been any of the thousands of university athletes who have had their picture taken over the years.

Many textbook authors are also college professors. They write a book, and then make that book a requirement for their class, and charge a fortune for it to be purchased at retail. On top of that, every year they change the wording in a paragraph or two, and then republish it as the SECOND EDITION, then THIRD EDITION, then 4th, 5th, etc. After eight years, they claim to have written eight different books. That, and they make more money because it prevents students from being able to buy used copies of the book.

I do agree that Dez was kidding, but if the authors of textbooks had to fork over any of their money for any reason, I wouldn't be sad.

Obviously the internet has "ruined" the text book business as well. People are now loading copies of the text book on to the internet to be downloaded so students don't have to buy the things anymore. No story I've read in the past two weeks has made me happier. F*ck text book companies, f*ck book stores, and f*ck professors who make students buy pointless books.

Dez probably doesn't have a claim because the scope of his likeness release at Xavier was probably pretty broad. But if the photo itself wasn't licensed for use in the book, the copyright owner (possibly Xavier) certainly has a claim. Is the book written by a Xavier professor?

Did the textbook give him consent?

Did you really think Dez was upset about this?

I saw what you did there.

He said they could do it, as long as they wrapped the picture in protective border.

I get that books are a screw, but writing (or WRITEING) textbooks is a laborious process for a fairly small audience. If there aren't second editions, etc, the first editions would just be more expensive. The edition process actually spreads the cost over the actual number of users of a textbook. If that revenue stream wasn't there, who would write, edit and produce textbooks?
