Another great time at the XU All for One Golf outing yesterday. It was superb to have The Man- Vee4XU in the group and the man is nails with the Flat Stick. A smooth 63, but very enjoyable at Hyde Park CC. Superb day with the rain nowhere to be found.
Had some long conversations with Honorary Lew Hirt Society Brothers Joe and Byron yesterday to get their impressions of the team. While they did not go to Brazil, they have been attending practice. Their impressions:
-They both, independently, said that Sean O'Mara is going to be a beast. He's thick, in a good way, and football player tough. No one in the Big East is going to intimidate that kid. Has a nice touch around the basket too. There have been some real battles down low between Stain, O'Mara and Reynolds.
-Byron was struck by the size difference in our new guard crew from what we had traditionally recruited. He says that Dee Davis looks like a waif compared to Macura, Sumner, Blueitt and Austin. He says we now have Big East sized guards.
- Macura and Blueitt can really, REALLY, shoot it, and not just when they are practicing uncovered.,
- Byron loves Dee Davis and was saying how much leadership he and Stain have been giving the young guys in practice.
- Remy Abel is going to be the defensive stopper we've needed since Stan Burrell graduated. He is a load to handle too.
- Both Byron and Joe said that it is going to be so interesting as to how the minutes are broken out. Byron was hoping that, in actuality, that a couple of the new guys decide to accept a redshirt this year because it would be very good for their development. We talked names, but I will not share them here. The kids need to buy in.
- Jalen Reynolds has a chance to be a monster, but he also has so much finesse. The videos of him going between the legs with step back 3's are no joke and those moments occur frequently. The kid just needs to transfer that practice confidence into games.
I haven't been more excited for a season to start since Chris Mack became the head coach. Get ready for a ride, folks!

Thanks for passing on this exciting news. I know that we have our differences on the climate change issue, but we are totally in agreement about the direction of Muskie basketball. I just paid the last installment on my (ridiculously expensive) season tickets and like you, can't wait to see how this season unfolds.

I just pay Muskie for my share if our season tix. I have no idea whether he's ripping me off or not and I don't even know if we've switched seats. All I know is I send a lot of money out and some kind of tickets comes back.

I sat in on practice pre-Brazil and would say that every single one of those bullets gibed with what I saw.
4 of the 6 frosh have "college ready" physiques. Other than Sumner and London, all the other guys look ready to go. O'Mara is going to be able to contribute immediately because he's a solid, coordinated 6-8 with a big frame. Not on skates in any way. I don't know that he's a super-high ceiling guy but he should be very projectable and won't embarrass himself out of the gate.

MOR, gratis. I have great respect for Joe and Byron's opinions. Enjoyed thier observation that we now have Big East guards (and front line too I might add.
Chris was ridiculed by some hereabouts for saying we needed Big East players, not A-10 players. Proofis in the puddin'. The MAC vs the Big Whatever. Guys have to understand the difference in talent level is huge.
Big East teams, and players, can play with anyone.
Like you, its gonna be a helluva ride.

I happen to think that our 2008, 2009 and 2010 teams full of A-10 players would have kicked the shit out of most teams full of Big East players.
I expect to be very happy with the talent we have on this year's team, though. Looking forward to finding out in a few months.

The news on O'Mara is especially encouraging.
And, to me, surprising. I was ready to wait a year.
A young, tough, game-ready big man is an outstanding add.
Delivers depth and develops experience and leadership at the same time.
Great news!

I think you'll still have to wait a year. He is very much still the 4th Big....he'll see minutes but I'll be shocked if he averages more than 3 boards a game.

I was ready for him to red shirt for that very reason.
If you can't keep him down -- good!

Young bigs always seem to have a problem with the nuances of not picking up fouls on the defensive end.

Thanks for bringing that up, Wags.
That was one other thing that Byron said about Jalen Reynolds. "He needs to learn to keep his hands to himself" and not pick up stupid fouls. If he can learn the nuances of defending with the body and legs and not reach with hands, his upside grows exponentially.

Thanks to you MOR, the Canton Barrister and the Judge for allowing me to be part of your esteemed team. The four of us ham-and-egged it all day long. I knew it would be a fun day, but to shoot a 63 as a group was icing on the cake. It was very enjoyable! It was also always great catching up with my fellow Xavier classmate, Joe Sunderman. He's the best!

Was this a Legit 63 or a "MOR 63"?

There were no "pick it ups" outside of 35 feet.
