Best remembered for burying UC in Thuggins' first year and X's first Sweet 16 (my freshman year, my how time flies!).

Better not let the Xavier administration read that article; having swagger is a mortal sin now.

Acting like a jackass is way different than having swagger.

Sorry Muskie, but that's very harsh, IMO. I don't want to rehash everything, but making comments that are taken the wrong way AND out of context is hardly acting like a jackass. It deeply saddens me that some players will seemingly never be able to live that down but would likely be among Xavier greats otherwise. I'm sure glad I wasn't branded for life based upon something I did when I was that age.

Unfortunately people get reputations for the way they act. Or from choices they made. I'm not even talking about the press conference. There were people who had a problem with that teams' antics long before the brawl. That's what the University cracked down on. Not swagger.

Correct.

The point is that branding a kid (or kids) for life based on the taunting that was done by players of both teams (although only one team's player was guilty of sucker-punching) is a shame. Cheeks will probably never go down in Muskie history as an all-time favorite of our fan base because of his type of modern-day swagger and trash talk. We like our heroes to be Justin Cage-like or Jamie Gladden-like. Mark Lyons reminded us more of Lloyd Price than he did of Semaj Christon or Anthony Hicks (spanning the ages). He probably deserves such a distinction, but I don't think anyone would argue Lyons didn't sweat bullets when he took the floor for the Muskies. He simply was a more self-centered player who happened to come from the Eastern playgrounds like Price (who will also never be among most Xavier fans' favorites of all times).

Exactly. And frankly I was more disgusted with how Tu was treated. He seemed to be a shell of himself for quite a while. That kid poured his heart and soul into the team and seemed to be completely abandoned by most. He was very unfairly portrayed by the media, IMO. It still sickens me to think about it. That's what makes me cringe when someone feels the need to throw another dagger. Enough is enough.

I'd agree with most of this, but if the shoe fits....

I always hear comments about someone is from "Eastern" or "West Coast" like that's an excuse because life in those parts breeds that sort of behavior. Stupid is as stupid does, no matter where you come from. I'm speculating that if all players from Eastern playgrounds lived with his type of swagger their whole society would destroy itself.

But back to the actual thread topic: Congrats to one of my favorite players to watch as young Xavier fan, Jamal Walker. I have no rooting concern for Princeton, but it's nice to know someone with your flair will be guiding these kids and impacting their lives.

Amen. Congrats Jamal!

Congrats to Jamal! When I was a little girl, I thought I was going to marry him. He was my favorite player.

And as to the other topic of this thread - the University was a-okay with the "swagger" or "acting like a jackass" up until that game. Then suddenly, everyone receiving a paycheck from Victory Parkway acted as though they were against the "swagger" and "jackassery". Bull. The hypocrisy shown by those in charge was something to behold. I still don't think I'll ever look at my alma mater quite the same simply because of the way they handled that situation and how they threw our kids under the bus. But, whatevs. Playing with no swagger is what we saw in Dayton last spring.

I agree. Tu Holloway was one of the best representations of Xavier and he was doing nothing but sticking up for his teammates. In my opinion, I don't think Tu was that high on the way Crawford and Lyons carried themselves and acted ........but Tu was a class act. The reason Crawford and Lyons couldn't take anything out on Tu the way they did Kenny was because Tu was as good as both of them....also much better than Lyons......not to mention Tu was as clutch as they come. I'd have loved for Crawford, DBrown, and Semaj to come back to X for at least another year, but poor Tu Holloway (and to think how happy I was when that tweet came through at midnight in April the year before). He came back and his senior year was a disaster because of a stupid brawl, Tom Eiser for letting them speak right after a heated moment, and the god awful Xavier administration. He deserved better.

And Correctness continues. Jamal is one of my Favorite Musketeers of any era. Congrats to him.
