I am not a student of the NBA Game. Can someone explain to me why anyone would pay Chris Bosh a max contract?

He is a stretch 4 who can go inside and bang with the big men, or step out and shoot from decent range. He has a few rings, and played on a championship team. That is the only case I can make for him getting a max deal, and I am guessing this is what teams are being sold.
I wouldn't give him a max deal, but Bosh is a very serviceable player. He isn't LeBron but will make a very solid complimentary player in a place like Houston.

Gordan Hayward may get a max deal. Gordan Hayward. Need I say more?

Agree with both posts. But it seems that both Bosh and Hayward will get max deals because they are available and teams want to say they brought in a max player deal... I'm not sure Bosh makes Dallas or Houston a "better" team, which is why I would never pay him max money. As for rings, how many rings does Chris Bosh have without Lebron?

How many rings does Lebron have without Chris Bosh?
2? (See what I did there? Through snarky internet banter I made it seem like Chris Bosh was inconsequential to those 2 rings).

I can't believe I'm about to defend Bosh...but Bosh is a 9-time all star that is in his prime. They don't grow on trees. Hayward is another story - solid player. The max off a rookie contract is not the same for Hayward. His max would put him making almost $10 million less annually than Bosh so to compare them both as "max" players is kind of silly.
How many rings would Pippin (HOFer, top 50 player) have without Michael?

3? (See what I did there? Through snarky internet banter I made it seem like Chris Bosh was inconsequential to those 3 rings).
2 rings.

Yeah bringing up Hayward in this situation is not the same at all...and does go to show how the words "max contract" are thrown around a lot just to gain attention...but if you read further in to it and beyond the headline/know somewhat about how the Players association works they are different per situation.
Not too mention I doubt many people follow the Utah Jazz here/have had any inclination as to how Gordon's been doing since Butler. He averaged 16-5-5 last season. The only two other players to average that or better? Lebron and Durant.....so yeah he's a pretty well rounded player that should command some dollars in the right situation.
Bosh honestly has played 3rd fiddle to Lebron and Wade the majority of his career. On many teams he'd be the go to guy ala Toronto. Most teams will give their go to guy a max deal if he's a 9 time all star. The thing is...I can't see him being the go to guy in Houston. That is Harden's team and I can only see it remaining that way. Dwight Howard has a small edge on him too in terms youth, but bosh has a better skill set and can also play the 4 and the 5. Howard is pretty limited to the 5.

I follow Utah. I hope they don't match if Hayward signs an offer sheet. They can lose 55 games with him or without him.

Guys the NBA is so screwed up. Channing Frye just signed with Orlando for 4 years 32M. You tell me he is worth 8M a year. Guy is 6'11 and grabbed 5 boards a game and he started every game for a Suns team that finished 10th.
In other news, Shaquille O'Neal just arrested Channing Frye for highway robbery. Think about it, you can take Frye's 8M, Livingston just got $5M, and Diaw got $7M. Do you think those three are going to be better on your team or do you think just Lebron for $20M? Its amazing there are teams that still think it's better to have a few average guys instead of one superstar.

Chris Bosh just made an extra 20 mil thanks to Lebron.
Mary Barra is going to make a gazillion because the auto buying public doesn't care if GM recalls another 20 million cars. The premise that any market will correct for quality and reject inferior goods or services is pure bunk.
EXHIBIT B: the market for almost any legislative body you can pick.
The nba owners don't want winning teams, they want lots of social media hits.

Because he's a good player and often times you have to over pay to keep players.

Good thing the Nba has a max contract amount, it would be scary to see what these GMs would do if it didn't exist.

I think Bosh's max contract was more of Pat Reilly not wanting to spend his last few years in the league in what would go from one of the best franchises to one of the worst. Bosh wasn't going to pass up the max contract, especially in a town like Miami. Just think of all of the money the Heat have to spend now that LeBron isn't there. Reilly is going to spend all of that money to do whatever he can to keep Miami a desired destination for young talent to come in the future. As most of us desired, Miami was so close to becoming a for sure lottery team until Bosh resigned.
