That puts him one spot behind the legendary Josh Pastner.

We clearly should have hired #33 Fran McCaffery when we had the chance...

don't really have a problem with Mack being 43rd. He hasn't proven he should be higher than that yet. However, I do have a problem with some of the coaches ahead of him...Jim Crews 29? Mick Cronin 27? what exactly have they done that Mack hasn't? However, should we really expect anything more from espn "writers?"
Oh and one more thing...Pastner is an f'ing retard. The guy can recruit but i'm pretty sure he has the basketball knowledge and coaching ability of your local grade school teacher/basketball coach

I think he's definitely proven he should be higher than Josh Pasner.

My first reaction was 43rd was probably pretty fair for Mack. Then I saw some of the names ahead of him...this list is laughable. For example, the author states these are the top 50 coaches RIGHT NOW - and they have Tubby Smith listed?! And Huggins?

The CYO coaches take offense.
Attempting to rank coaches like this is pure silliness. It goes to show it's a long off-season for everyone and he's got to turn in something to earn a paycheck. But he did get us to look and talk about it... Thirty seconds closer to next season!

Just for giggles, the article has Mack with 4 years as head coach...he's got 5.
In 5 seasons he's got 2 S16's. Cronin with 8 years has 1. And he's 27th?

Josh Pasner has none, and he's 42nd.
Memphis was easily a top ten caliber team when Pasner took over. He's coaching them backwards. UC was a sub 200 team when Cronin took over. I wouldn't have him at 27th, but at least he turned a dumpster fire into something nationally relevant. Pasner is taking Memphis in the opposite direction.
EDIT: Although to Pasner's credit, he continues to do well in the preseason polls. Somehow.

Somehow Archie Miller is listed at #26......ummm.....not so sure on that one. A little premature on my end.
Also, Jim Larranaga at 28? Dude languished at BGSU for years. Goes to GMU and manages to eek out one heck of a run & then returns to mediocrity. He's done an OK job at Miami, but to be the 26th best?
OK -- I am reading that it is who's doing the best job now....so I can give Miller a little bit of pass. What has Huggy done. The past 2 years haven't been worthwhile...

It's got a very severe recency bias too. That's why Crews is ahead of Mack (at least that's the only thing I can think of). Crews had a nice head start in the talent department from his predecessor.

My understanding was that Crews was always a good coach but severely lacking on the recruiting front. I haven't paid enough attention to him to know if that's true, but that's just been my impression.

Tom Crean did not make the top 50. That is funny.

He seems to be a pretty good gameday guy. Jury obviously still out on recruiting...the guys brought in this year are rated higher than Majerus's recruits

A BS list if ever there was one. Literally no effort was put into this.
They almost took the list of every coach that made the NCAA tourney and juggled it randomly.
Oh well its the offseason

Jim Crews was National Coach of the year in 2013. Guess the jury is out on his recruiting though.
It's obviously flawed when Josh Pastner makes the list but Quin Snyder does not.

Bob has increased his weight and his cholesterol level the last two years. Pretty soon, he will be wearing a poncho on the sidelines.

Umm no he wasn't...he may have been a conference winner I am not sure but he certainly wasn't the AP or Naismith coach of the year. By the way, Frank Haith was the AP winner in 2012 and that guy couldn't coach himself out of a paper bag.

NABC and Sporting News COY that year...so yeah, he won 2 COY awards (not counting conference, because we don't have one). Recruiting is the great unknown.

Quin's coke dealer is pissed.

Uh, yea, but he did win NABC and Sporting News COY in 2013, so obviously he was in many peoples' conversation, and not just in the A10. I tend to doubt he's a great coach based on his full body of work, and I definitely think there were plenty of other deserving candidates for that award in 2013, but as a fact police waiting to prowl every chance you get, you might want to consider your own fact checking before dropping an "Umm no..."
And yes, Frank Haith is an incompetent coach and a program posison.

my apologies D. I didn't realize that you had meant the awards other than the Naismith or AP. My bad.

Hey Shaq. What do you have coming in? I'll be cheering as you crush UD twice a year.

I don't think a novel was necessarily required here. I just found it very amusing to see you start a post with "Umm... no he wasn't." The snarky/douchey, "your facts are wrong" posts that prove to be entirely ironic due to their own incorrectness always give me a chuckle. No need to get bent out of shape (I'm certainly not interested in that again.)

Not much funnier than watching a guy try to correct someone, get corrected for being wrong, then get bent out of shape because someone corrected him trying to correct someone else.
Like you said, if you want to be the fact police you better make damn sure your facts are in-line and if they're not you don't have much room to get upset when someone points it out.

You definitely lost me somewhere here in this ambiguity. Not really sure what you're referring to. Here's a fact: Jim Crews won multiple National Coach of the Year awards in 2013, whether or not anyone here believes he deserved to or not. Personally, I don't.

Highest rated class ever for SLU...This year scares me a bit, but hell, I'm a born cynic.
