Well, after 7 years, we had a power surge at my house Thursday that fried my Pioneer Plasma. I am a little ashamed to admit it, but I was nearly inconsolable. I absolutely loved that tv. I looked into getting it fixed...problem is, Pioneer no longer makes plasma tvs. So, I would have to pay someone $100 to come out here and give me an estimate. The guy couldn't come to the house until May 28th. Then, because the parts aren't easy to get, I was pretty sure I'd be told it would cost anywhere between $500 to $1,500 for parts. Including labor and the initial $100 estimate fee, I just decided to get a new one.

I got a 55 inch Samsung 4K Ultra High Def tv. Holy chit. The picture is so clear, its going to take some getting used to. You almost feel like you are on set watching the movie or tv show. My wife and I were a little freaked out by it. The technology of HD tv's is crazy.

For anyone looking at getting a new tv in the upcoming months, I'd definitely recommend looking at the Samsung 4K 8550 model tvs. A little pricey...but wow. Can't wait to watch the Heat/Pacers game tomorrow on it. Gonna feel like I am court side watching the game. Plus, at HH Gregg, they have no interest for 24 months. I'll chip away at the cost over the next 2 years and then pay it off once interest begins to accrue. Not a bad deal at all.

The new tv's have that smoothing thing that I honestly don't like. You can get into the settings and dial it down. It's nice for sporting events but makes all other TV look weird to me.

The new TV's are amazing. I fired mine up during a hockey game and stood in the middle of the room with my mouth open. I could count the zits on a kid in the 10th row.

The samsung un 55 has all the same features less 3d for only $800.Since 3d will probably never take off, I would say the $800 set is the better buy...but I'm thrifty

You sure about that? I don't think it has 4K. I didn't care about 3D. A lot of the newer smart hd tvs have 3d. I just decided to try and stay a little ahead of the technology advances with the 4K. I think you'll start seeing more and more 4K programming in the upcoming years. Its already started on Netflix with House of Cards and some other shows.

Agree about the smoothing thing. I'm going to see if I get used to it...if not, will have to tone it down on the settings. Studio sitcoms are just plain strange. Its like you are standing on the set watching or in the front row of theater watching them act live. Will definitely take some getting used to.

Just under $2500. I figure 24 months of $100 interest free payments and then pay off whatever is left over when interest begins to accrue. Enjoy now, make small monthly payments and pay off the balance later. Credit....the American way.

I really love the smart tv aspect that the new tvs. Direct hookup to my phone to watch videos or pics, even Netflix and the whatnot? No cables? I love me some technology.

Your power surge was God's way of getting you to the Promised Land.
(Until 5k super ultra high def comes along and makes you look like a rousing game of Pong, of course.)
