I am all for second chances... but if I hear another uc fan talks trash to me about Xavier "thugs" I'm gonna lose it. It is one thing getting into fight during a basketball game, it's another thing to kick the crap out of a bouncer just trying to do his job.

Agreed. This guy is nothing but bad news. He had an awful upbringing but that's not a excuse to be a scumbag.

Mehh this doesn't really move the meter for me.

The shootout was what it was. I don't think anyone pretends to be proud of what happened during the brawl.

I don't pretend to know what happened at that club, but I think there's a reason no charges were filed even though the bouncer wanted them to be.

Typically if you get assaulted in front of a large group of witnesses you don't have any problem getting charges filed.

I don't have a hard time imagining that bouncer had it coming to him. Given the close proximity to the shootout they didn't have much choice but to have 0 tolerance, but if they feel like he's worth a second chance I have no issue with that.

If I'm being totally honest I've been in more than a few situations where if I was a bit bigger I might have swung at a bouncer.

And Jermaine Lawrence has asked for his release. So much for that 5 star. Ha.

As a UC fan I'm kind of bleh on this whole thing. The dude has really grown a ton and is now listed at 6'11 which is crazy considering he handles like a guard. Most people are saying that he has matured since everything went down but what else do you expect them to say?

This move does make sense however considering our prized recruit from last year, Jermaine Lawrence, asked for his release from the program. Sounds like Lawrence was planning to leave for a while now and we needed to replace him with someone similar. Despite him not showing very well last year, this is a big blow to UC losing Lawrence.

I think this is the bottom line. Cronin needs Ellis, or someone, on this year's team. You are always only one down year away from losing all your momentum in Clifton. Hell, they have a tough enough time garnering enthusiasm when they are good. Losing Kilpatrick is basically losing all your offense. It'll be interesting to see if they can rack up their share of 53-48 type wins.

Yeah Losing Lawerence is a big blow to UC's programs.

I wonder if X wouldn't kick the tires on Lawerence....I could see him doing well once he's healthy.

I would bet a pretty good amount of money he ends up at St. John's.

I'd bet an even larger amount of money he doesn't end up here.

I would agree with that.

And that said, if the guy has had no other problems at UC, does he get kicked off the team for one fight? Since Cronin took over, things have been pretty silent over in Clifton. I kind of miss the Huggins days, particularly in the off season.

I saw Coach Cronin at Pelicans Reef last night. He is not tall.

He lives over by Coldstream. He doesn't have much hair either.

As much as I hate to say this, one of my XU buddies knows him and says he is a good dude and very funny guy.

I of course have no desire to meet him so I can continue to think he's an a-hole.

It's really hard to gauge how good he will be. He was hampered with injuries during his junior and senior year of high school and then his freshman year at UC. This is a big loss for UC in terms of experience and not because he was a phenomenal player last year. We will have 7 new players in the program next year (if you count Ellis) and need experienced players. Lawrence has tons of potential, but at the same time I don't think most would even bat an eye at this if he didn't have 5 stars next to his name because he didn't play like a 5 star player once last year.

Very true. But you cannot teach athleticism and he is loaded with it. Probably won't have a top of Offers. but will most definitely not end up at a mid major level eitehr.

Holy shit...I just went and checked out Bearcattalk.com. What a dumpster fire! I'm sure that place represents a small % of their fans, but that is pure comedy on the Martin thread. Lots of back and forth about not taking a player from 'little brother' with zero mention that Martin can do the one thing that nobody on that roster has proven they can do....score the basketball. They are as cluelss as Mick when it comes to offense and what that team needs.

Agreed his athleticism is off the charts. If I had a guess I'd say he ends up at St. Johns.

Just saw a very interesting tweet from UC's 247 sports guys alluding to other schools "not wanting the mess" that comes with Lawrence's situation. Very curious what that means.

Jermaine Lawrence leaving Cincinnati is a surprise. Kid can really play. UK had some interest as HS player. They could now again. We'll see

Ever since the season ended, bearcattalk has seen an influx of new posters who spout off a lot of nonsense and try to stir the pot. Most of the regular posters are fairly rational people. I really don't know where all the new posters came from but they are dragging the board down big time.

Most Cincy fans would gladly welcome Martin to the program, as we really need a proven scorer. That said, I don't see it happening. I'm not even sure where the rumor came from.

Lance McAlister: I'm trying to recall one thing that Jermaine Lawrence did on the court this past season that left an impression. #Bearcats

Nice Lance, way to talk shit about a college kid who transfers from your favorite team. The dude gets more butthurt by college athletes than any other grown man that I know.

That's the funny part because he is such a d!ck about UC too. UC fans can't stand the guy same as most of the city. How can live with yourself after verbally abusing an 18 year old kid that is just trying to find his way in life? Especially one with such good character like Lawrence. Anyways don't want to turn this into another Lance rant. Apparently a big part of him leaving is his "handlers" are in his ear about how he should be playing the 3 spot while Mick wants him to play the 4.

I hate how much I love sports sometimes. It's all such a slimy business anymore and very little about playing the game it seems like.

Lawrence's Twitter says he's a small forward (at the top) and has ever since he came to UC. I always found that a bit peculiar. He really needs to work on his handles if he's going to play the 3. Sounds like his people are really screwing him up.

Bearcattalk where they call Xavier "Avondale Community College" and "Norwood Community College".....hahahahaha

Here is a reasonable poster in the thread regarding the Crosstown Shootout

How can you hope it's cancelled? It makes us look like sore losers since we haven't had a lot of success against them the last 15 years. And don't say we're LIGHT YEARS better than them program-wise, you'll just sound like an arrogant OSU fan. We are not too good to play them. They are a quality opponent, something we need plenty of in this conference.

Supposedly Lawrence is using the reason that his father is ill as to why he's leaving. I don't know if his father is sick or not but that is the only way the NCAA gives him a hardship waiver to play immediately next year

I just can't picture Justin Martin at UC. I hope I don't have to because I was looking forward to cheering for him and his new team next year. That would not be the case at UC. As far as Ellis I've never seen someone lose it like he did during the brawl. I was in the 4th row next to the tunnel in the corner of the fight. His coaches literally had to wrap him up and drag him off the court. That was pure rage in eyes. Completely out of his mind in the moment.
