The Big Stain was my favorite player this last season, and it looks like that pattern will continue for me next season. He appears to be the heart and soul of the team, and I hope that he is one of the captains of next year's squad.

Good news?!? According to this article, Stain is losing his left knee!

"The 6-foot-10 senior's left knee ailed him near the season's end but may soon be a thing of the past."

He will be the unquestionable leader of the team next year.

I bet he averages a double-double next year barring injury.

I will take that bet in the form of one beer at Dana's. Only 13 players had DD's in half their games. Very tough to average a DD.

I gotta call it even though I'm betting with my heart. Hey he was around that a lot last year. I'll probably buy you a beer for the cool info anyway.

I'll bet a beer on him too. He's got the size, the moves, the eye, but most importantly he has the attitude. I can see him averaging 15 points 10 boards and 3 or 4 assists. I think that once the offense starts to click, the middle opens up for him scoring, and on the offensive boards. If he was a little meaner he could be a Kevin Frey+

Nobody loves Stain more than me, but I gotta go with '94 on this one. To AVERAGE a double double through an entire year means A) You gotta play a lot of minutes and B) There is no other player on the team who can even collect rebounds. Stain will get his share, but for him to average 10 boards per game through 30 plus games is just unrealistic.

I like the enthusiasm for his talents, though.

I'm with you. If Stain averages a double double he might win Big East POY and be on an All American team. Of course that's a bet I'd gladly lose.

DFW averaged a double/double...twice.
(the other 2 years he "only" had 9 boards)

How could you not love the guy? Yeah, you could get picky about whining about calls, but that's missing the big picture. I wouldn't bet on the double double (amazing stat there), but like you, I'd gladly buy the beer for being wrong! You guys will just have to pay for my travel and lodging to get the beer, but I promise it will be cold!

Stainbrook is one of my favorite Musketeers in recent memory, quite frankly. I'd gladly lose the bet that he won't average a double double. Hell, I hope he averages a triple double! Watching him come back from the injury to have a huge All Big East senior season and lead this team is going to be a beautiful thing to watch this year.

Funny thing is, with the way he passes out of the post he's capable of (some) triple doubles! We may have had more physically talented players, but this guys got what I love in a player! He's committed and obviously emotionally invested. It's fun to watch.

Love Stain, but he's gotta get the weight off and keep it off. It'll help his quickness, and stamina, and knee(s), and team, and future prospects.

I realize expecting a double-double every single game is unrealistic but averaging a double-double isn't imo. I am always a little too optimistic when it comes to Xavier basketball but...What if he did avg. say 14pt and 10reb per game? Wouldn't that at least get him a couple tryouts at some NBA camps?

I think he could average a double double, but it is unlikely. He will probably be doubled nearly every game, and I feel like he tends to get early fouls. He's got to stay in the game to get that double double.

He's such a good passer that I think that would be a mistake. Frankly, he's a better passer than he is anything else. I expect Jalen to be good enough next year that doubling Matt will be a real mistake. It will particularly be a mistake if we can find a couple of reliable outside shooters on the roster. Fingers crossed.

I think he can do it if his off season workouts increase his vertical jump from 2" to 3"

He only had 10+ rebounds like 4 or 5 tims tops this year.

I don't see that going up when Jalen is his wing man.

Jalen will prolly average more boards than stain next year honestly.

I think he'll have a GREAT season, but I agree with others - a double double is ridiculous. I can see his scoring, and even assists numbers going up (I'm sure more offense will run through him) but no way he averages a double double. I'd expect to see something along the lines of 12/7/3+ assists.

I could see him maybe flirting with a triple double for a game against some lower level competition if our "shooters" can actually shoot this year. Imagine the open looks Bluiett/Macura/Myles/Dee will get on the opposite wing if teams are doubling the post.

The whole board should take the bet. Good excuse to go drinking @ Dana's. I'll be flying in from CO to collect.

Except me. Every team I rooted for in the tourney lost, no matter how tepid my cheering or truly ambivalent I was about the matchup.

EVERY. SINGLE. TEAM.

So I better bet that he does not average a double-double.

However, I must say he is one of my favorite players, for many reasons.

If that means you filled out a bracket, and each and every pick was wrong...you should call Warren Buffet and tell him you had a perfect bracket.

.

True, but at 7.4 boards, there's not much of a jump to 10 if he can up his minutes. raise his PT from 24 to 30+ minutes and 10 boards is achievable. If. as he says, he can cut his weight and muscle up that increase of 25% is easily doable.

With pot being legal out there now you probably don't even need a plane to "fly" in.

Nine times this past year, and his injury probably prevented at least one more.

Hopefully we have enough offense where that would be a mistake. Maybe I'm wrong, but I felt he was doubled most of the big east season. Don't see that changing.

My freshman year Bob Pelkington averaged 21 boards a game (best in the country beating out the great Paul Silas of Creighton). Think how difficult that is given today's rebound stats. Of course X shot a lot and scored a lot that year, but still....

Bob "the Bird" Pelkington surely has arthritis in both elbows by now. He was a windmill in the post and never backed down from a scuffle.
