That another Xavier coaching adversary has passed away, Dr. Jack Ramsey (St Joe's PA).
He was truly a basketball genius, and joins other great coaches who went against
Xavier baaack in the day like Bob Calihan (Detroit), Tom Blackburn (ud), Al McGuire (Marquette),
Taps Gallagher (Niagara), Eddie Donovan (St. Bonaventure), Al Severence and Jack Kraft (both of Villanoa), George Ireland (Loyola Chi). They all were winners, and they all did things the right way, and all were also professors who taught classes. And they were all "characters."
Severence taught Latin, and one night in his post game he answered every question in Latin.
I think the game was more fun back then for everyone.

Also had a few stops in the NBA - including Portland and Indiana (don't know if I missed any others).

Bill Walton's coach at Portland.

He lived a good, full life by all accounts.

And according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Ramsay) was "a devout Roman Catholic."

RIP, On Eagles' Wings, Dr. Jack.

He coached the Buffalo Braves a long, long time ago. We had season tickets and I learned to like him then. They had very good teams but it was hard to get past the Celtics in those days. I've sort of followed him since. Sad news indeed.

Yeah very sad.....had a very long and successful coaching career, but I also thought he was an excellent broadcaster and commentator...very sad to see him pass.
