Frank Haith is probably leaving Missouri to take the Tulsa job. Ok.

Sim Bhullar is turing pro. Ok.

Whats next?

Haith is pulling a Purnell and getting the hell out of his current job before he gets fired. Sim Bhullar will not get drafted, nor would he probably ever get drafted out of college even if he stayed in school. Can't blame him for leaving and trying to make some money before his body starts to break down. (Which for a guy his size could happen very soon).

I don't think Purnell could even Purnell his way out of the mess at DePaul. Luckily for him, at his age, he was able to get that golden parachute. He is most likely done after this season which will be season 5 and $10 million later. Not a bad way to walk off into the sunset for doing nothing.

Yeah. Dont you think they should wonder why the heck a guy like Haith, who has had a fair amount of success at a solid basketball school like Mizzou, would leave after 3 years to go to Tulsa?

The Tulsa AD may be the only person on earth that doesnt think that is suspicious.

I don't think Haith is suspicious. I just think he's terrible.

Frank Haith has a history of digressing programs.

Miami was good, but not once he was through with them, and he left them in a mess with the NCAA with all those violations.

Mizzou went from finishing in the top five and losing in the first round, to barely winning a road game and earning a crap seed, to missing the tournament altogether and having close to a 25% drop in attendance.

You know who Tulsa could have gotten that's better than Haith?? Just about anyone.

"Fair amount of success" does not accurately describe the last three years at Mizzou.

In many ways, I think Missouri is an interesting study. They have "some" similarity to X, in that they have recently moved to a Bigger/Better Conference and now must decide how much to pony up for a new coach. I'm already seeing posts like: We joined the SEC to get more cash to do great things, let's get it done.

In all fairness it is not like Mike "home game" Anderson was handling the road all that well during his tenure.

To add to the Bizzarness, Pat Forde wrote this: Frank Haith merely the latest African-American coach to leave SEC for lesser job (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/frank-haith-merely-the-latest-african-american-coach-to-leave-sec-for-lesser-job-060826346.html)

What a dumb article. In almost every one of the four coaches he details, each had failed to be successful or meet expectations. Besides Cuonzo , each of them would have likely been fired within a season if they stayed. Heck until Tenn went to the Sweet 16 this year, UT fans wanted Cuonzo gone. IMO, if the departures were because of race, Forde did a very poor job supporting that with real facts in his article.

Forde's article is a pretty good reason for SEC schools to avoid hiring black coaches in the future. Even if they don't do a particularly good job, you get crucified when they leave. SEC administrators may well believe it's better to just make a safe, white choice than go through that.

Yeah, and ESPN should hire more white, asian and hispanic basketball analysts. These guys left bcuz they all had lousy recruiting classes coming in and/or couldn't coach up the guys they had left. I'm sick of the "quota" system that you have to have an appropriate number of black coaches/players. Come on, if they're good enough, everybody wants them.
I've coached youth baseball for years until I just couldn't take the parents anymore. I had white and black parents who just couldn't understand why their kids played the minimum even tho they couldn't catch, field or hit. I had a parents meeting every year to tell them that kids get the basic mechanics in my 1 1/2 hr. practices. It was still up to them to work with the kid an hour a day on those mechanics if they were going to make the commitment to our team. Never worked. Maybe one kid a year would do the work and move up in the lineup. They wouldn't put in the time to help the kid get better. Thought I was a free babysitter service which they could criticize with their vast knowledge of all things Baseball.
But we need a quota for Black Baseball Managers. Black kids don't wanna play Baseball. The black kids would rather play Basketball. Doesn't matter. Racist.

Every major league baseball uniform had the number, 42, on it the other day in honor of Jackie Robinson. A number of black players were interviewed that day and the topic of almost every one of those players was that more black kids should be taking advantage of the opportunity to play in MLB that Jackie Robinson made possible for them. Almost to a man, they laid the fault of fewer and fewer black kids playing in MLB at the hands of the kids themselves.

To think of all the greats who have played and are playing the game (Jackie himself, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Bob Gibson, Frank Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Don Newcombe, Roy Campanella, Reggie Jackson, Willie Stargel, Roberto Clemente, and the Reds' own George Foster, Joe Morgan, Brandon Phillips, etc.), one would think that black kids would want to follow in their footsteps, especially considering the money that can be made in today's game.

My brother is 13 and just called into a national radio show that was talking about kids not playing baseball. It's not just black kids. My little brother hates baseball. He plays AAU basketball instead. The majority of his friends play lacrosse. I don't think his school even has enough kids who want to play to put a team together, even combining two grades. Baseball just is not nearly as popular among youth as it once was, even extremely less so that it was 10 years ago.

Well, he was OK. The Bullets weren't very good when he played for them. The three years that he averaged over 10 ppg the team records were 21-61, 39-43, 44-38.

Love Colorado. Loved Florida. Guess I'm along for the ride. Summers are fab here. Cold brewski's at Red Rocks, picnics in the Mtns., Coors Field, train rides on the California Zephyr (I'm a train nut), 20% longer drives on the golf courses make me feel like Bubba. Av's in the playoffs, what's not to like? I do have a Red Card for med. pot due to Neuropathy, but haven't used it yet but will very soon. If you're bored in Denver, it's your fault.

I remember as a kid, I had a hard time getting enough people together to play a game of baseball. Basketball, street hockey, soccer, football, etc., were much easier, though, because you could play a game with a handful of people. Besides interest, baseball simply requires larger communities of kids to be a viable option for pick-up games. This is just speculation, but it seems to me that those larger communities aren't as prevalent, whether in the suburbs or in the inner city.

We played two on two baseball in the backyard. The yard was small enough to make this possible. The problem was that if you pulled the ball it was essentially foul. Hit the ball to CF or nothing.

Football games are events. Baseball games happen everyday and when games end closer to 11 during the week it makes it problematic.

I do find it funny that you even attempt to compare the two. The speed of baseball games has been a problem for years, and it's getting worse.

Even telling our DVR to record an extra half-hour beyond "The Good Wife" didn't always work during the football season! That means they were going on for well over 3.5 hours on some occasions. I found 14 games in the majors yesterday that went 9 innings. The average time it took those games was just under 3 hours. I don't recall many (if any) 1:00 p.m. Sunday NFL games ending before 4:00 p.m. And I've seen MLB games that lasted less than 2 hours from first pitch until the last out is recorded. Although those are rare in MLB, they are simply impossible for any NFL game!

Football games have been dragging out, but at least there's action and every game matters. It's just personal preference, but baseball is just decent background noise to me. My son played rec league and AAU baseball. When they called post season about playing All Stars one year he said "do I have to? Half the time you're just standing around, and the other half your just sitting." I was thrilled to see the end of his baseball career! There's just not enough action for young kids with short attention spans and a lot of sporting and entertainment options. But the kids who are into it go all year, at least in Florida. It lasts forever, much like an MLB season...

Youth league games I umpired had a 2 hr. time limit, meaning no inning could start after 2 hrs. I never had a problem for years getting in the 6/7 innings bcuz the kids hustled in/out and SWUNG THE BAT! per their manager's instructions and mine. Nobody learns nothing until you have kids come up and hack. Nowadays, the coaches have every kid taking pitches like their Reggie Jackson. Parents get pissed when you call them out looking. Games are over in the 3rd inning due to the time limit and idiot managers. Every friggin' guy on the planet thinks they can drive fast, barbeque and coach baseball. Pathetic.

I believe this actually makes you eligible for sainthood. (I also suspect there are some other things which might get you taken off the list.) Parents and coaches are out of control! In all honesty, I had a few moments myself until I realized how awful it was. Pretty safe to say there are no Reggie Jacksons on your field. There may be kids making snow angels in the dirt or wishing they could get snacks from the concession stand, but parents seem to think highly of their offspring. Every coach thinks he's John Wooden. My 16 year old son reffed youth basketball and had to call the guy running the league (and almost the cops) because of a 50 year old stockbroker upset with traveling calls and getting ready to stroke out. Hey, they're 8 year old kids. They're going to travel, and if you call it they will learn not to do it. For those of you not at that stage yet please remember this: Chill out. It's easy to get caught in the moment, don't fall into the trap and be "that guy".

The younger the kids, the worse the parents. Go to a highschool baseball game, seriously 1000 times tamer. It's not that the umpires are that much better as much as the parents know the rules. I've seen more young kids umpire their last game because parents/coaches feel they have the right to verbally abuse them. Then they are the same parents that complain that there aren't enough adults umpiring games. Well there aren't enough adult umpires because you ran them off when they were kids.

Rant over
