I am a huge Shocker fan in this tournament.

Wanted to ask Go who is would be rooting for if his Shockers play his Cards. Might make him an unpopular man around town, and in his family.

And as Tweeted by Shannon, showing up to root against X during practice. No less that it was St. Patrick's Day and those kids should be partying somewhere.

Heckling our guys during practice was extremely weak. I'm surprised the UD administration let them do that.

That was a huge 3 by UK right before halftime. If this was a 9 point game at halftime, UK would feel much, much worse about their chances of coming back.

But WSU is pretty clearly the superior team, so they should be okay.

Maybe we are going about this all wrong. Maybe we should be rooting FOR ud instead of against them. If the sports gods are contrary to our wishes about a rival, maybe rooting for them will help eliminate ud from the tourney. Just a suggestion.

I wore Shocker gear watching the Final Four last year, and I would do the same while watching the Sweet Sixteen if it comes to be.

Teams that I am rooting for have not faired well in the tourney, Flyers aside.

I was rooting for the A-10 teams. ST Joes choked. UMass didn't show up. SLU went down. GW went down. My elite 8 VCU went down. I had Nova winning it all. That was bright. When Duke went down I thought my Elite 8 UMass pick was going to be all the rage.

Gotta have someone to root for, so I am rooting for Creighton, Wichita St and Dayton.

If Creighton looses we won't have a Big East team get out of the first weekend. That will depress me. Plus it is fun to root for them they way they play.

Yeah. I will never root for UD. I have rooted for UC in the past and would maybe do so in the future. But, UD's fans are the worst kind of fans that there are. I've never met a fanbase suffering so much from an inferiority complex as UD's. Even people I know who are UD grads are obnoxious when discussing basketball. Although, being friends with one particular UD grads has netted my husband a case of beer each year since '01 until this year. So, there is some silver lining.

I don't know. I feel like the streak doesn't matter now that they're in the tournament. I mean, obviously it's still going on, but wouldn't your focus be on winning the tournament instead of some streak? If they lose is the first thought isn't "aw man, the streak..." I think it'd be "aw man, the final four..." or "aw man, the championship."

Kentucky - Witchita State was the best game of the tournament so far, Final Four quality. Two talented, well-coached teams throwing hay-makers at each other. Too many games this tournament have been one team sucking less than the other (e.g. both Standford and Dayton in Sweet Sixteen).

Only flaw was it should have ended on a game-winning shot since both teams executed so well the entire game. Sometimes I think coaches over-coach. Not sure what advantage WSU gained by Marshall calling timeout with 3 seconds left instead of continuing to the basket in transition. Just ended up in a rushed three-pointer.

UNC-Iowa State is highly entertaining basketball also.

I'm guessing that Marshall didn't like what he saw and that's why he called the t o. Ky had everyone back on defense in front of his guy with the ball. The tv announcer mentioned that Marshall is pretty good at drawing up out of bounds plays.

I don't know if that's the best narrative here. Kentucky is an inconsistent team, which is why they got an 8 seed, but when they're on, they are one of the best teams in the country. The Wildcats today could beat anyone, regardless of how challenging a team's conference slate was.

I agree. We had an OK year. This the 30th year of the 64+ team tourney format. We've made the tournament in 22 of those years and just barely this year. If I ranked our teams of the last 30 years, this team would certainly rank in the bottom half. So, by our standards while I wouldn't say it was a bad year because we did make the tournament, it was a mediocre season.

That said, I still think the future for our program and our conference is very bright.

I have met the enemy and it is me.

Now for my next kernel of magnificent thought: stuff happens in the NCAA tournament. It just does.

Baylor clearly is the longer, more athletic team. But Baylor also is having one of those nights. It happens.

There is no reason to overreact to all this. The AAU coach is entitled to his opinion. Perhaps he is a big fan of one of the teams that no longer is in the conference. Whatever.

Xavier will be fine. The Big East will be fine. And as I sit here, watching Creighton get slaughtered, I can only be thankful of the fact that I'm doing so as a fan of a BE team.

Creighton's total reliance on the three and its ability to outscore its porous defense all year allowed them to avoid the kind of game that is going on tonight versus Baylor. Creighton was destined to play this game at some point all this past season. Too bad they waited for their biggest stage to do so.

My son and I were talking tonight and decided that the overall seeding this year was a mess. You have the likes of NC State, X, Iowa and Tennessee in play-in games and BYU and Colorado as #10 and #8 respectively. Also, I know that UK had an up-and-down year, but how in goodness' name are they on the same seed line as Colorado? Surely there are examples that I missed. Really messy this year.

Yeah, as we've all said, the Tourney is as much about playing well as it is about match-ups. Baylor's size and athleticism nullified a Creighton team not playing it's best. Baylor is HOT at the right time. Creighton peaked in the middle of conference season.

That all said, I hate to see McBuckets go out like this.

My biggest issue right now with the Big East, is that I do not think it has a strong stable of coaches. Or certainly, the jury is out on quite a couple of them such as McDermott sans son, Miller. There's coaches I personally would not want coaching Xavier (Lavin, Thompson, Purnell). I'm indifferent on Wright and Willard. The only coach I actually really like the conference is Cooley, other than Mack of course.

I actually like a lot of the coaches in the A10 which has directly impacted the numbers of bids it has received the past two years.

I agree. Although it applies to more than just the BE (see, e.g., the A-10 and ACC haters on this board...) Frankly while we got 3 1/2 in, I didn't expect any but 2 to advance past the first game, and I had my concerns that any could reach the 2nd weekend. Sadly the opening weekend for the BE teams came out pretty much exactly as I expected it would. It just wasn't our year -- XU wise or BE-wise.

OSU winning wouldn't bother me that much. I'm not a fan, but being angry at Thad Matta has lost its luster at this point. I have a hard time seeing UD beating Florida (who I hope win tonight) but it would only make sense that Sean Miller's brother leads Dayton to a Final Four before we go.

So how do Stanford feel about Dawkins? This sweet 16 means that he won't get fired, but Dawkins has not had a good tenure so far.

Sweet 16 plus a top 15 recruiting class means a contract extension for Dawkins. Stanford is not an easy place to coach but 1 tournament appearance in 6 seasons isn't very good.

Wasn't Dawkins' first season the year after the Lopez brothers left? I imagine the cupboard was pretty bare when he first arrived.

That's true but he had a full recruiting class come and go before making the tournament. Most power schools don't tolerate that unless it's a massive rebuild project.

What is funny is that the Cryers will get to spend another couple of days in the hell hole trash heap that is Memphis.....Then get their asses handed to them by Florida.

I hope that too many of them don't get bitten by river rats or murdered.

Actually, the more I think about it, Dawkins should be fired for losing to Dayton in the Sweet 16. No one's done that in 30 years.

Stanford could've scored at will or get fouled on the block every time down the court but they shot 18 threes and only hit 4 of them. Gotta question that.

I'd go after him if I were Marquette. I know they're looking for someone who will stick around for a long time - and Archie doesn't exactly come accross as that sort of guy. But ultimately they got $$$$$, which was a driving factor in Sean's decision

Well folks, if UD can beat Florida (the clear favorite, IMHO, to win the championship) then they more than deserve a Final Four.

I'm sure the weather and prestige of the Arizona program had something to do with that too.

This run by UD has been a mirage. OSU and Syracuse came into the tourney playing bad. Stanford beat a Kansas team without Embid.

Stanford was horrible. Dayton made shots.

Once Archie leaves Dayton will fall back to mediocrity. Heck, UD hasn't finished higher than 6th in the A 10 under Miller. He hasn't set the world on fire in the A10. They've gotten extremely fortunate these past 3 games.

This all may be true, but a Final Four appearance is a Final Four appearance. If we got there, we wouldn't be nitpicking over how it happened. It's just vomit-inducing that it's Dayton.

Playing very well. Every time I have seen them play I have been impressed. You just have to tip the cap to them...survive and advance is the motto, right? You just have to hope that somewhere our boys are huddled around each other wearing their X gear watching it all unfold. Hopefully it lights a fire.

I don't get this. The girl that you used to date leaves you for a more attractive, more wealthy man, and you want to see her do well? Even after she calls you out for being a lowly Buick compared to a Lexus? Please. I root for Xavier in good times and bad. Sean Miller WAS a Xavier coach that brought good times. I appreciate and respect that. But he is now an ex-girlfriend. At what point do we stop holding his jock because he was a Xavier coach long ago?
