Mike Krzyzewski believes so-called bubble teams from the ACC are better than what the rest of the country has to offer when it comes time to making the final selections for the NCAA tournament.
Mike Krzyzewski says the ACC should receive more respect from the NCAA tournament selection committee.
Coach K stated his case after Duke defeated North Carolina State, which is on the tournament bubble, in the ACC semifinals Saturday.
"I said to [N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried] at the end of the game, 'I hope you guys get in. I don't understand it.' They won at Tennessee. They probably should have beaten Syracuse twice," Krzyzewski said. "I think they've played a really good schedule, and they've got one of the best players in the country. ...
"I'll get in trouble probably for saying it. Like the Atlantic 10, they're a really good conference. I hear people saying there are six teams in there. Come on. I mean, they're good, but put them in our conference and go through the meat grinder that our conference has to go through. But really ... our league should get more respect. The fact that Pitt comes in here and people are saying they have to do something, come on. Come on, man. I don't get it. The Clemson team we played [Friday] night is a heck of a basketball team."
North Carolina State (21-13, 9-9) is on ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi's list of next four teams out heading into Selection Sunday. The Wolfpack, who won four of their last five games, boast the conference's player of the year in T.J. Warren, who scored 21 points in the 75-67 loss to the Blue Devils.
Entering Sunday, Lunardi projects five teams from the ACC to make the NCAA tournament, putting the conference behind the Big 12 (seven), Pac-12 (six), Big Ten (six) and Atlantic 10 (six) as teams picked to make the tourney. Lunardi also projects five teams from the American

I saw that too.
Man, the Atlantic 10 is becoming everyone's whipping boy.
Coach K Cronin: "Are you telling me that NC State wouldn't win the A10?"

This may not be the popular opinion, but I agree with him...

If they don't like the respect that the Atlantic Ten is getting, then maybe they should schedule some Atlantic Ten teams. If they do that and beat them, then you're in and they're not.
Yeah, the ACC is so disrespected, and NC State should be in because "They probably should have beaten Syracuse twice."

True, but only until next year when Louisville and Rutgers leave the one conference that you loathe more than the A-10.

I'm just going to laugh at the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC next year.
Memphis still has Pastner as a coach, SucKS will suck because they won't be able to score at all with no Kilpatrick, Jackson or Rubles. Their highest average returning scorer averages 6.8ppg (Thomas), and Napier and Kromah are gone from UCon. East Carolina and Tulane come in. What a clusterf&$#%k.
Can't wait to see how ESPN packages dogcrap into a Porterhouse.

Probably by injecting a little p n. v the same way they always do. Throw in a couple of expert comments from past glorious athletes and see if it floats.

I just cannot get over this quote.
The ACC lives in a world of false hypotheticals. They measure teams on the games they should have won, or against teams that they would likely refuse to play, but claim that they'd be able to beat.
UNC Greensboro should have beaten NC State. Should they be in the field??
Lets hang a 2004 Final Four banner and tell Duke to take theirs down. We should have beaten them.

I agree with Coach K, for the most part. Had any of those a10 teams had to go through a tougher conference schedule would they still be at larges? Probably not, but credit to them for putting together good enough resumes. The big problem I have is the Va techs of Seth Greenbergs days would load up on cupcakes out of conference, go 9-7 in the ACC and then be mystified they didnt get in. You have to go out and play teams outside your conference and actually win some in conference.
I think most Xavier fans realized this years conference was much more of a grind than we have ever had. If Coach K had switched out a10 with Xavier/Prov we probably arent bubble teams IMO. Take a look at UD's schedule, they started at the bottom of the a10 then won 9 of 10, against mostly the low lifes on the a10 minus a road W at SLU and home against umass. They played GW when GW had 2 of their best players out.
While I think it was stupid to use comparisons like "almost beat syracuse" his point of if you took a bunch of those mid major teams or even a middling BE team they would struggle in the top 1 to 2 leagues. Its hard to win on the road, its even harder to win at schools like Clemson, Nc State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Marquette (I could go on forever) than it is playing Lasalle and St Bonnys.

If we were still in the A-10 we'd be outraged at Coach K. Remember the A-10 was making active strides to schedule teams so that their RPI's would be better. Obviously it worked.

if we were still in the a-10 we'd be outraged at coach k. Remember the a-10 did make active strides to schedule worse teams so that their rpi's would be better. Obviously it worked.

Times have changed. If we are talking 3 teams I get it. But 6? I see his point.

File this under things I bet Coach K doesn't know:
A-10's 6 teams expected to get NCAA Tournament bids? 8-2 vs. ACC
VCU 3-1
GW 2-0
Dayton 1-0
UMass 2-1
