When my daughter applied for colleges last year she asked me, "Dad have you heard of Xavier" my reply was yes of course, they have a good basketball team. Later last year she was accepted and is now a second semester freshman. My old Alma Mater WSU that's Washington State University not Wichita State.. has been nothing but a disappointment since Tony Bennett left there so I needed a new team to cheer for.
Cheering for X, watching every game on Fox and listening to the others on Sirius Radio has been great this year. What a great group of kids, coaching staff and classy organization. I can't say enough about the drive and determination of these kids.
Despite the sour grapes from the establishment, the new B.E. will be a division to be reckoned with, and I am happy Xavier is a part of that. Here in San Diego we have SDSU , U of A and all the pac 12 teams north of us. I see X being competitive with any of those teams and could see Creighton in the final four if they play like they did last night, and could see Xavier beating them if we played them again!
I can't wait for my first visit to Cintas! next year and am very optimistic about the tournament and beyond!
Win or lose you X- alums and fans have a lot to be proud of and my hats off to your great organization and wonderful kids and coaching staff.
Cheers and Go Muskies!

Glad to have you here. I am another fan who came to Xavier "later in life" when I earned my M.Ed. As a lifelong fan of an underachieving Marshall program I think I truly appreciate how special Xavier is from a perspective that is different than some. I was immediately hooked and now not much exceeds my passion for Xavier basketball. Your daughter made a wonderful college decision and will be grateful for the rest of her life.

Welcome Sir and I'm sure your daughter, as I and MY daughter did, will have a fantastic college experience at X!

Sir, my privilege to give you what I hope is the first of many reps. Your post shows how valuable joining the Big East is for Xavier, my alma mater of 54 years and more than 60 year of watching and loving and being involved with Xavier sports and its basketball team. I am as the saying goes old fart, older than dirt some say, but that doesn't stop me. Thanks aga for that first post and welcome Muskie.

Welcome. Very nice first post. Don't be put off by any complaining you may read here by some posters, it sometimes takes an unbiased view to put things into perspective. We are extremely blessed to have the recent history that Xavier BB has. Is has been extremely fun and satisfying to watch the program progress to its current status. It has been a long journey, and like all journeys it has had its ups and downs. Fortunally for us, the trend has been mostly up. I hope that the journey for you and your daughter will be as pleasing to you as mine has been, and as long term.

Sorry for Tony Bennett. I'm actually a secondary UVA fan, so I know that loss must have hurt.

your daughter made an excellent decision
Welcome and thank you for making a very good point. Back in my day I almost always had to explain that I went to a small private, Jesuit school in Cincinnati. That was before the hoops program took off. Now almost everybody knows about Xavier and no explanation is needed. And we attract kids from all over. (I wonder if there was a single kid from California in my time there.) Building the program was a huge part of building the school - which I barely recognize now.

I'll betcha she was shocked by the Cincinnati win, no surfing, no stolls down the beach ... but she will find, as I did, Cincinnati is a wonderful, friendly super city ... and to be at Xavier is a bonus. I wish her all the great things she will enjoy on Victory Parkway and the friendships that will live with her forever.

Ha! The Florida kids were often trouble! Make a mental list - I can think of four off hand. I woke up from a nap one day to a knock on the door. Men in suits were there to ask a summer resident of my dump to leave town... and I never saw him again. Then there were three. They were more Miami Vice and we were more Leave it to Beaver (albeit the Eddie Haskell version). I say this now after having lived in Florida longer than any other state. I'd go back in a heartbeat, but my kids are grown.
For those who weren't there (or anywhere) back then, or forgot, Xavier was largely a commuter school in those days. Being a major basketball program has been a huge part of becoming something more significant.

Yes, the best marketing tool for the school.
Welcome DMart to the Xavier family.

I saw him a few years later and he was doing great. Upbeat and a pleasure to be around! Haven't heard a word otherwise in 25 years!
*** DMart: This is all ancient history. Nothing of the sort like this goes on at XU these days. Sorry for the turn this thread took!

Just a reminder now that the season is over. What you have here is very special, and I expect to be a Muskie fan from here on out. A disappointing end maybe but keep it in perspective. These kids were gamers this year, and were put in some very adverse conditions. I am proud of every one of them.
