How the hell does X shut him down? The kid is playing on fire:

Doug McDermott's last 2 games: 40.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 31-47 from the floor (66%), 12-17 from 3-pt range (70.6%), 2 wins, in 34.0 minutes/game.

Easy, you don't. X has the blueprint from both their win over Creighton & the win last night. Let Doug get his, but don't let the other guys kill you.

Truth. Doug can have his if you stop his teammates.

If you let Doug have his, "his" might turn into 50+. He's the rare guy who can probably beat you by himself.

Maybe. But X also did the same at home against them. They kind of let Doug do his thing, but held everyone else in single figures. It worked, didn't it?

I agree with having to stop the rest of the team. Make sure Wragge and Manigat don't hit multiple threes, that's when you're in real trouble. Martin, Reynolds, and Semaj are huge matchup issues for them so hopefully those guys come to play again.

Truth be told, it was a bit of a hybrid attack. They knew Doug would get his points, they just made it as tough as possible while also containing everyone else. Also, it helped A LOT that Creighton missed a number of open looks.

In my opinion, the only way X wins this game is if they get an unexpected outburst from a role player (i.e. James, Myles, or Jalen). If they can get a 1st half like they had against UC, that would be ideal. ;-)

It worked because they couldn't stop Xavier's offense either. Xavier's offense has to be clicking for them to win.

Agreed. That is another issue. We've been ice cold from 3 the last three games, and we were not the last time we played against Creighton. We are going to have to break out of our funk tonight if we want to have any shot at all.

We need Myles Davis to start hitting a few of those wide open 3's that he is getting lately. He could have put that game away early last night by hitting a couple of those three's. We will need some against Creighton because trading 2's for 3's won't work for a whole game.

At this point I'd take a layup from Myles. I don't care if Reynolds has to pick him up and hold him in front of the basket so he can drop the ball through the hoop like a child. Anything to remind him he's able to put the ball through the hole.

You don't stop McDermott. The key is not letting Wragge, Chatman or any of their other guys go off for 20.

Having been at the home game vs. Creighton, the one thing I noticed is that their bigs casually trail the play up the court. After a made basket or rebound, McDermott or Wragge will lightly jog behind the ball, hoping that the other team's bigs scurry back to the lane and forget to close out on a quick 3. We did a much better job stopping it in the 2nd matchup, but it's something to keep an eye on.

That's really the only way Wragge scores. The guy is a master at getting open by trailing but isn't that effective in half-court offense.

Aside from the obvious 3PFG improvement needed, Run. Run some more. Take those shooting legs out from beneath all of the Jays. Two games in two days could be telling in the second half.

What is your obsession with tired legs?

We did such a better job of going out and attacking the three point line on fast break defense, as opposed to getting to the hole and then moving back out. It killed Creighton on those opportunities.

My thought also.We can win even if he has a 30 point game as long as the other guys don't kill us.In the game here no one had more than 9 points.

Maybe we can pull a Sochi and get McDermott locked in his hotel bathroom until the game is over.

Getting some of their guys into early foul trouble helped X tremendously in the last game.

You're nicer than me. I was thinking we should go Shane Stant on his ass.

By the way, nice Tonya Harding reference, Go.

(I don't actually want anyone to hurt McDermott...or do I?)

I made my post having no idea that Shane Stant was the guy's name who whacked Kerrigan. You learn something new everyday I guess.

He'll probably be granted a fifth and maybe even a sixth year of eligibility, and someone at Creighton will change to walk-on status to make room for him

I can't wait until next year when Creighton is without McDermott, Wragge, Manigat, and Gibbs.

After seeing Creighton play 3 times, and I hate to interrupt this love fest for the guy, but doesn't McBuckets deserve an Oscar for his ability to draw fouls?

Yeah, that sucks when he's playing us. I hope he does whatever he has to do to win tonight.

Looking at the 1st half, it appears XU took everything they had, and left them with nothing. McBuckets included
