For all the crap he gets(some of it rightfully so) he played an amazing game tonight. 3 assists, 5 steals, 0...yes 0 turnovers. Not to mention Jake Thomas couldn't even see the basket tonight with the defense Dee was playing. Just thought he deserved his own thread, because even though he doesn't always have great games, he steps up a lot more than people give him credit for.

Now let's do something really special.

I agree. I have not always been his biggest fan, but tonight he played the type of game that he needs to play.....under control and not forcing things.

He did everything the team needed him to do.

Good game, Dee!

Agreed. Big part of this win and picked his spots.

+1

I have been very hard on him at times (rightfully so IMO) but he played great tonight. Aside from 1 or 2 defensive lapses he played great perimeter D and ran the offense beautifully.

Agreed.

Shutting down Thomas like that was huge.

I kept waiting for a couple lazy, airhead passes from Dee and Justin. Fortunately, I had to keep waiting for the entire game. Much sharper execution this time around.

BTW, this is a TEAM. These guys really like and support one another. They may drive us nuts from time to time, but I absolutely like that aspect of Xavier Basketball circa 2013-2014.

Those who frequent live chat know that I'm not Dee's biggest fan but the man did what needed to be done and then some tonight. I humbly raise my glass to Dee.

Totally agree. X was NOT going to let Thomas beat them again.

Overall I thought their D was solid. Yes, Burton had a career game, but something has to give when you take away so much else.

Dee Davis played like a Senior, grizzled veteran. That was a complete game. I think the 5 steals might be a career high. I couldn't hear the audio much, but I thought I caught that. Danas was rockin.

Thomas attempted only two three-pointers, made one, and that one involved a very friendly bounce after initially being well short. I'll give Thomas credit for putting good spin on the ball.

I felt that he, Semaj, and Philmore really chose their moments well.

The next time anybody on this board questions Dee Davis effort, heart or quality of play, just remember this picture in a game that is the second one in 36 hours.

MOR I was thinking today watching him how much heart he plays with. I know he makes mistakes but man he is trying and you can tell. The kid is about to do what all X guards do around this time and that is play with urgency. I don't think X wins the next two but I do believe they will the majority of their final games including UC, Marq and Creighton

I think Dee has been fine this year. Frankly, the team overall has looked bad offensively when he isn't on the court IMO.

OMG! I saw the black eye, I didn't realize he was missing a leg! Tough SOB! How did I miss that?

He played great and the league leader in assists. Dribbled throught the trees and came back out today (mostly). All good stuff, loved it.

Jumping off one foot is a Xavier prerequisite.

Jumping off one foot is a Xavier prerequisite.

But I thought there was an option involved!

If you can only jump off two you may have to settle for the X HOF and euro championships.

THAT is my senior point guard.

Yesterday, a mere mortal. Today, a Crosstown Shootout legend.

Lead us to March, Captain Black Eye.

He is both clutch and a starting point guard.

I would love his hot shooting to continue for another few months. When the kid plays like that, this team is tough to beat. He has been much more of a pass first PG this year, and hasn't been able to hit the ocean in weeks. The offense will flow so much better if he can hit the occasional outside jump shot.

One of the reasons I love the shootout is there is always one or two players each year that come out of no where to become a Shootout Legend.

Props to Darwin Davis on arguably the best game of his Xavier career.

Dee Davis has 172 assists this season, 7th on the all time season assist list. He could easily end up second on that list.

He's third on the all time senior season assist chart, and will pass Steve Gentry for second next game.

He has 443 career assists, eighth on the all time list and has a legit shot at getting to fourth, outside shot at third.

He gracefully spent his junior season letting Semaj oink, er handle, the ball and share the PG duties/assists, or he would have a shot at Ralph Lee's career mark.

I cant find any stats on A/TO ratio records, help if you know.

This kid is a winner, never shirks, stays focused, sees the floor. He's not perfect, but he's perfect for Xavier.

2nd in BE considering players with more than 100 assists.

Nah, check out the St. John's thread, the real stats are there.

He's a solid player who had a GREAT game, but let's not canonize him because of one game. He's been consistent, but not spectacular.

Also, "Dee's not perfect, but he's perfect for Xavier" is clearly post-shootout hyperbole. He's a good representative for the university, and a solid player, but he pales in comparison to some of the other guards we've had in the last 6-7 years.

Although Dee Davis has some limitations due to his size and slow release on his jump shot, he has consistently been a good point guard this year, both on offense and defense. There is no one else on this team who is even a close second at playing point guard.

People just won't forgive Dee for the fact that he's not Drew Lavender or Tu Holloway, but he's no less than a solid point guard. Those who don't see that are just overly critical and / or living in the past.

Good point. Sort of like saying, "Jason Love isn't vey good because West was way better."

I've had my issues with Dee in past seasons. But he's played well this season.

Hey look, I started this thread.

Anyways Dee is an above average point guard who will make a few mistakes a game, but runs the offense very well. He has been quite good this year in my opinion. The problem is we have been spoiled by our PGs for so long. We will miss Dee next year. We may get back to borderline all american point guards in a year or two, but most teams would kill for a guy like Dee. He has been very solid and I think he has far exceeded what I ever expected him to become as a player. For all the haters, did you really expect him to become the next Tu? He has far exceeded my expectations for him and I couldn't be happier with his play this year.
