I think BYU is in no matter what happens tonight.

Agree, and the metrics do too.

I do too, but a loss tonight would mean they wouldn't jump Xavier, IMO. As in, a loss and they would fall to a play-in game spot. Like if the committee is deciding between Xavier and BYU on which team is "play in", which is just in- they put BYU in play in game.

Why are you so sure they are behind us right now?

Why are you so sure they are behind us right now?
They're behind us in Pomeroy and in a virtual tie in the Sagarins.

We also have better wins and they have more bad losses.

BYU will back their way into the tourney because they played a hard non conference schedule (despite the fact they lost almost all the tough games) and put up a very good record in a shitty conference. Then they will lose in the first round like they always do

True, but neither of those confirm they're definitely behind us right now.
They're 7 spots ahead of us in the Sagarin Pure_ELO which is one of the better predictors of how resumes rank against each other.
They're also roughly 20 spots ahead of us in the RPI.
I'm not saying they are in front of us right now, but I don't know how you can definitively say they are behind us.

After a close lunchtime review by team and by Conference, I'm feeling really good about us. Our seed may suck, but we look pretty good to be in the field comparatively.
- Juan Bid will visit 22 leagues..including the Missouri Valley- unusual.
- The Big 12 And the PAC 12 will get 7 teams each in. The two most highly rated conferences.
- The Big 10 will get 6 (Third ranked conference)
- The Big East will get 4 with the St. Johns/Providence game as a "Play in". If St. Johns wins X is a lock for sure and if Providence wins, either they're the 4th team in or unless somebody other than 'Nova or Creighton wins the whole thing. Even then, though, X has a way better overall resume than Providence.
- ACC gets 5 in...including Pitt, barely.
- A10 ranked as the 6th rated conference gets 5. NO way 6. There will be a play-in game between St. Joes and udump in the second round.
-The SEC although ranked 7th only gets 3.
-The AAAAAAAAAAAAAC rated 8th still gets 5 in. A weak 5 however.
- The WCC gets 2, including BYU. (Palm has only 1 from this league)
-The Mountain West gets 2.
There's your 68.

Sound good assuming no bid stealers in the MWC or any of the other conferences (unlikely anyone not already in the field is going to run through the major conference tournaments, but you never know).

St. Joes losing to La Salle and setting up that tournament game with UD was huge. I like that Arkansas and Tennessee have to play each other as well, that should be another elimination game that hopefully goes to the Vols.

Why you hate on Belmont and UW-GB?!? I think they're both out, too. I guess I wouldn't be shocked to see one of them in Dayton.

I guess UNLV could spoil the party by winning the whole thing, but they are so far down on all the metrics that it would take an awful lot.
Minnesota would have to win the Big 10 Tournament as would Florida State or Clemson in the ACC and Arkansas or Georgia in the SEC.
St. Joes losing at home to Lossalle really put them in a bind. They dropped into that play-in game with the Cryers..assuming that the Cryers beat Georgey Mason, which isn't necessarily a given. Now either the Hawks or the Cryers will knock the other out.
In the WCC, Palm has only Gonzaga in, not BYU. If he's right, that opens up another bid somewhere- probably for the ACC.
Hard to see anyone else in any league coming up with a big effort to win their league Tourney.

Gonzaga is beating up on BYU so far.
