View Full Version : Requiem for a Recreational League Champion

Sometimes a guy enters your program who is not your star, or your second option, or even your third, but does the work. Gets dirty, mixes it up, picks up his teammates, brings along the young guys, brings the huddle together, brings the team together.
He might not jump out of the gym but it is 110% night in and night out. As he plays his final home game, stand and applaud Mr. Isaiah Philmore.
Now Isaiah heads from the bright lights to open gym Valhalla. He can relish a lifetime of backing them down in the paint, sticking back bunnies, popping the occasional soft J from the elbow, and taking home trophies.
Slap on the Rec Specs, tighten the knee brace, brief quad stretch, and yell ‘NEXT!’
Hail and Farewell the Rec League Champ!

Totally agree and support this post. Zeke plays hard every second he is on the floor. He is to be commended, and I can't think of a better way for the guys to salute him than by beating Nova on Senior Night.

Good job, Amex.
Thank you, Isaiah for your efforts, dedication, work ethic, endurance through rehabs and your class in representing Xavier University! Good luck in your future endeavors!

Not only that, beat them comfortably enough that in the last minute Whelan can make an appearance!
Even if they win, that might take a timeout with 10 seconds left after Xavier has iced the game with free throws...

Nice post. Agree completely. IP has always appeared to me to work his arse off. Plus he makes more FTs than me misses.

He has really shown improvment this year and has become a consistent and solid contributor. You never have to worry about his effort either. He is a credit to the program and deserves to go out a winner.
Agreed, great post. The "glue guys" - even sold starters - often don't get the credit they are due. As for the Rec league, I want the man on MY team! (And then I will get the hell out of the way.)

I've been one of the many who have been critical of Zeke, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. He gives it all, every night. Remember reading he was very hard on himself after the A-10 tournament blunder last year. Hopefully he has a fantastic senior night and locks up a tournament birth (for real this time) so he can put that behind him.

So apparently Isaiah Philmore has a fiancee, meaning he has an old lady at home whom he plays his heart out for. This just keeps getting better.
Oh, and only a Rec League Champ could draw a foul with his nose. "FOUL!"

And she is a beauty pageant winner:

For heavens sake, he's not dead. Love the post and just another example of the Xavier way, since he'll leave Xavier with two degrees.

A true Rec League Champion steps up his game when his bro is hobbled by a knee injury. What a game by Philmore. He went out of the Big East and MSG like a G.

That was a hell of a performance from Zeke. They simply could not stop him. Wish Xavier had gone to him earlier. Lots of points scored and he would have personally fouled out at least one player, if not more.

The indefatigable spirit of Isaiah Philmore will hover over tonight's epic matchup of his two alma maters (and hopefully guide a few Xavier shots into the basket).
