LOVE THIS. I am out of my mind excited today. Days like today I wish I was still in Cincinnati. Cintas is going to be insane today. Like clear the shelves White Death approaching insane. Regardless, beers are on ice, beers are already cracked, gameday food is heating up, gametime is approaching.

I have to say, the way Creighton has played in the games I've watched this year (about 4-5 games) I didn't think they would win today.
Getting that Wragge in foul trouble was probably a crucial part of stopping them, as they needed more scorers.
I don't know if I guys were just feeling it better today with the crowd or the pressure, but they've always had this talent. They just have not really shown it so evidently in other games this year.
What a big time game!

You can send the plane for me as well!
We sat in section 109, Row A, behind the scorer's table. What a great vantage point to watch a game. We let the refs have it for some of the calls they missed. As soon as I yelled at the white ref about Creighton going over the back, Creighton went over the back again coupled with a goaltending, and he missed them both. He came over to the table and pretended to make a list of all the calls we thought he should be making.
I guess the guy believes he is a celebrity or something.

Did anyone watch McD in and after the handshake line. He appeared to be very complimentary to Justin and Semaj during the handshakes after the game. Then when he was walking off the court into the tunnel a fan came up to him for a picture. He turned and put his arm around the dude and gave a huge smile. Glad to see that. Seems like a good dude.

Most of the time I just automatically don't like the opposing teams best player but it's impossible not to be a fan of McDermott. He, and the rest of Creighton, all seem like class acts. I can't wait to watch them, and Xavier of course, play in the Big Dance.

Totally agree. BE is fortunate to have Creighton as a member. I think that they will become a big rival and competitor of Xavier's in the future, as both should be perennial challengers for the title. However, I don't see them becoming rivals that we don't like...such as Dayton. (Buter can fill that role very easily however) I think that they will continue to be a credit to the league and a highly respected program.

Ditto. As much as they tangled during play, they all seemed to let it go the moment the whistle blew. It was nice to see that blend of competitiveness and camaraderie. I'm just sorry they had a player go down during the game.

One thing I noticed leaving the game tonight, when the players were going through the handshake line they were all giving each other hugs and showing a ton of respect towards each other. Thats how rivalries should be. Leave it all on the court then respect each other after

Agree with all the comments about Creighton. Classy bunch. A lot of mutual respect between the teams. I'll definitely be cheering for them in the Dance.
Definitely seems like a great kid. His Dad is all class as well. A couple weeks ago when they were rolling Nova the Creighton student body started chanting overrated and Coach McDermott put the kibosh on that quickly.

The McDermotts' press conference was quite good as well. Father and son are class acts. Will be interesting to see what direction they go without the McBuckets/Gibbs nucleus next year.

Creighton fan here-
Great game yesterday. X is an NCAA lock and deservedly so, not to mention you are going to be dangerous as heck in the Tournament.
We are thrilled to be in the Big East, as I'm sure Xavier is, and looking forward to many more great games. Xavier is a class program and we have a lot of respect for you and your success over the past 10+ years. Appreciate the comments towards the McDermotts and the rest of the team. It's nice to go on an opposing team's message board after a hard fought game and see something other than "McDermott is a bitch, Creighton is a bunch of whiners/floppers, etc."
I will also add that I was at Cintas in 2003 (?) on New Year's Eve when CU and X played an epic game that X ultimately pulled out on a David West bank shot with a few seconds remaining. When Kyle Korver left the floor, he got a standing ovation from Xavier fans. Never forgot how cool that was.
Back to this year...I think both teams can do some serious damage in March.

We can be very gracious after a win.
And hopefully don't embarrass ourselves too badly after a loss :-)

Xavier fans had many nice things to say about Creighton after our loss at Creighton earlier in the year as well. It is definitely different for our fans to have that much respect for an opposing team, it's players, it's fans and it's coach in both a win and a loss. IMO that speaks volumes for the Creighton organization.
Believe me, Xavier fans are quite capable of finding things not likable about other teams.

NYE game still in my personal top 5 games at Cintas Center. Korver was masterful that night and he deserved the standing O he received. My oldest brother went to Creighton and so I have been somewhat familiar with the program. I look forward to these games for years to come. I am not sure how a true college basketball fan cannot help but appreciate what McDermott and Creighton have accomplished.

I agree about how decent the Creighton fans were in attendance yesterday. I also think that the team is very good and very well coached. One the thing that did bug me was that Coach McDermott complained a lot to the refs during the game. I know that the Creighton fan who posted doesn't like this kind of thing, but I am only reporting what I noticed with my own eyes throughout the game. Trying to get a call is one thing, but to me he was a bit over the top with the complaining. That being said, I am not suggesting that it in any way overshadows the all around good. Otherwise, great game and great outcome.

Watching the Marquette/ Nova game - they just talked about our win last night, and claiming that that win merely gets us back ON the bubble. Oh, yeah, and they followed that up with saying how depleted the Big East is since all the big powers left. Mind you they are saying this during the Nova game. The Nova fans should be ticked off as well at that.

I think he was trying to get a "tactical" technical to break up XU's rhythm and fire his team up, the refs just wouldn't call it.

I had to rewind that to make sure I heard it right. I thought Greg Anthony was a smarter guy than that.

It never amazes me how little basketball "experts" actually know about Xavier. Just yesterday I heard Seth Davis talk about how Xavier's struggles this season have been from the offensive end and not the defensive end... Seth Davis is a well known doofus though.

Speaking of bubble games, St. John's avoided a huge collapse at home against DePaul. Their bubble is still intact, but they have their finale at Marquette. Only Creighton and Villanova have managed road wins in Milwaukee in Big East play.

So, I'd think we want Nova to win this one, to help our campaign to have a firm grasp on the 3rd place slot in the Big East. (We have no shot at the top two spots) Of course Nova has to lose on Thursday for precisely the same reason.
Yes, we want Nova to win.

In four years, I'm not sure I've ever seen Mac get a T. He rarely rides the officials. Yesterday he was as upset about officiating as I've seen in quite some time. My opinion was that he was trying to get a T to spark CU, given that we were playing pretty poorly in the first half (taking nothing away from Xavier). I thought it was a pretty well officiated game overall. Couple bad calls that went both ways, but that's just basketball.

It's clear how much respect our guys and the Creighton guys have for each other. Yesterday was a very intense, important, and hard-fought game, and I never once saw the players look at each other wrong, much less exchange words or shoves. And that was despite there being a ton of physical play.
Very good show of class and basketball by both teams, and I have a ton of of respect for Creighton. I will definitely be rooting hard for them in the NCAAs.

Been watching. That foul they called on Christon at the 12:44 mark in the 2nd half was a joke yesterday from the angle I had at the opposite end of the court and even more of a joke after seeing the replay today. McDermott fell down and tripped over his own feet! Kind of made that call up the next time down the floor though when they called one on him when he really didn't do anything other than stand there with his arms in the air.

I feel like Wragge picked up a couple of cheap fouls so it all kind of evens out. I thought the officiating was really solid for the most part yesterday.

Watching the replay right now. On Creighton's circus shot with 12 seconds left Gibbs grabbed the net prior to the ball going in. Isn't that a goal tend? I'm asking simply for my own clarification and understanding

The importance of getting Wragge of the floor cannot be overstated. That may have changed the outcome of the game. And I' ok with that because that's how basketball works. Better for you than against you... And it's better to be home than away (which kind of goes hand in hand).

should have been. Minus 2 points. I was thinking the same thing live. With all the ref huddles/replays this year not sure why they didn't, but it wass late and game was all but done. Gus should have at least mentioned it.

Seemed like they were over the back on that play as well. Not that it mattered at that point.
