View Full Version : Rush the court?

When we win tomorrow and we will, well X will, do students rush the court? Huge game, NCAA invite on the line, #9 team in the country. I was always told it was bush league to rush the court unless it was the #1 team or if you broke some huge drought. So with that said do the students rush the court? I sure as hell hope not. Thoughts?

Even if they wanted to I don't think they could. Just the way the student section is set up, and I'm sure increased security will move their towards the end of the game, I don't think security would allow them. I could be wrong though. I hope they don't.

OK, I'm sn old fogy, but I know there is the probability of injury, or accelleration of conflict (read fights) and I am dead set against rushing, storming, racing onto the court at any damn time. Jump up and down, yell what you plese, have any other kind of fun, BUT NEVER STORM OR RUSH THE COURT. Too damn dangerous.

I'd hope not. X is only a 2.5 point dog. This wouldn't be a program changing type win.

My God, when did Creighton vs. Xavier become Kansas vs. Lamar? Creighton fans and sports writers are proclaiming this game to be Xavier's Super Bowl and we're feeding the fire with our own fans talking about rushing the court if we win.

Sorry, am I missing something?

Why rush the court after winning a game you should expect to win? Correct me if I'm wrong, Sandy, but hasn't X won about 90% of its games played in The Cintas Center? Vegas may say we're dogs today, but the Muskies (and fans) should never act like dogs at home.

I know Creighton is a top ten team right now. I know there is a lot on the line tonight. I also know that, without a shadow of a doubt, rushing the court after beating a conference opponent is bush league. Like the biggest thickest bushiest of all bushes. For all the talk to shed the "mid major" status of a small-time program, rushing the court after a win over Creighton would accomplish exactly the opposite of that. I'm embarrassed that this thread even exists.

Only to flee White Death.

Or if there is a free t-shirt on the other side of the court.

Or a free hot dog.

If any student rushes the court, they will be required to attend a reflection session led by Masterofreality.

When I was in HS, the students rushed the court in a huge win vs. Ty Shine and Withrow. Our starting center had a rib cracked at the bottom of a pile and was out for 2 weeks.

The players were all understandably pissed.

Rushing the court is stupid and a good way to get someone hurt.

If you want to storm a court then go to Dayton, where winning big games in March isn't expected

I forget who it was but I remember a couple years ago a student section chanted "Don't storm the court, don't storm the court!" I want the student section to chant that. Show that we expect to win and storming shows that we haven't been there before.

Please don't. For all the reasons Michigan Muskie and everyone else said. It's the biggest game of the year - however, it is not our super bowl. Do we even have a super bowl? Xavier is not Cadwallader University to Creighton's Nevada St.

It's a statement game, not a super bowl. Big, big difference.

I mean, maybe if you beat Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, or that ilk at Cintas, then MAYBE, MAYBE you THINK about storming the court. But, Creighton is not even the program that Xavier is from year-to-year. To be sure, take nothing away from them this year. They are very good and McDermot is an excellent college player. But, they haven't achieved half of what X has as a program over the past 30 years, so why even consider it?

I don't think we should rush the court, but I also feel that if you have to consciously campaign for everyone to act like they've been there before, that's really all they're doing. ACTING like you've been there before.

Who is it that we're trying to impress?? And whoever it is, why are we trying to impress them?? Would it impress them infinitely more if no one cheered at all, and everyone just silently filed out of the arena after the game was over?? Why is it that storming the court makes it look like you've never been there before?? UC fans don't really even show up for a lot of the games. Is that an extreme result of acting like they've been there before??

I don't think we should do it, but that's based entirely on my belief that it's best if the fans don't come onto the court at any point. At least not until the other team has left the floor.

Indiana and North Carolina had games where they stormed the court this year. They've been there before, and everybody knows it. I didn't hear a single person say that it looks like those programs have never been there before.

There were tons of people making fun of Indiana and North Carolina for storming the court this year. TONS. The phrase "act like you've been there before" was definitely thrown about.

How about the fact that it's fun? You're caught up in the emotion of the game, you're team just won at the buzzer the place is electrifying. I am not saying they should do it because it is just Creighton I am just wondering under what circumstance do you say it's okay?

That's the kind of storming i'd be up for. Storming the court kind of says "I can't believe we won!". The message I would rather send is "of course we won, because we belong".

People always say that rushing the court is a dumb decision... but how many good decisions does a college student make in a week? Celebrate first, apologize later.

xubrew

Dumb decisions are oftentimes a lot more fun than smart decisions.

I like fun. Big wins are fun. When people tell me to act like I've been there before, they're making it less fun. Winning is still fun even if you've won before. So are lots of other things.

I am now going to celebrate with a few really good stiff drinks, which I've done before, and will do again even though I've done it before.

FWIW, I don't think fans should rush the court until the players have shaken hands, but it has nothing to do with some nonsensical hyper self consciousness of not wanting to look like we've not been there before.

GO X!!!!!!!!!!

We used to rush the court in the Gardens when we had big wins. #1 UC comes to mind. My senior year we moved into Cintas. The way the student section is set up, it would make it damn hard to rush now. The student section in Cintas basically has a fence around it. In the Gardens there was a rope holding us back. I don't think we'll ever see the students rush in Cintas. It would be just to difficult.

I watched the end of the Va/Syr game.
They sent 100 guys out in yellow shirtsthat stood shoulder to shoulder in front of the student section...who promptly ran around the end of the yellow shirts and onto the court. Was hilarious.

Hilarious development happening right now.

Southeast Missouri stormed the court after beating Murray State. The only problem is that the game wasn't over.

Well, that's not the only problem.

One of the refs left the floor. Murray State's head coach Steve Prohm was going nuts. They tried to review the play, but the truck brought up the wrong play.

While all this is going on, the students are still celebrating.

...and as I'm typing this, apparently the game is over. But, it shouldn't be over. I guess they couldn't get the video up, which is strange because I'm watching the video stream right ow. The refs have left the floor, the students are celebrating their 118-115 win, and Prohm is shouting, slapping and kicking at random invisible objects.

HOW CAN YOU NOT BE A FAN OF RUSHING THE COURT!!!

That's the only time I remember that ever happening. We were a TJ Johnson 2 footer away from rushing the floor against #1 UMass, too.

Actually, come to think of it our fans rushed the court after beating Princeton in the NIT. Sounds stupid, but it WAS Posey's last game at home, and he'd just done some amazing things to pull out a miracle win.

I do think we are all in agreement that storming your opponent's court when possible is allowable and should be highly encouraged (see: 2004 A-10 final).

I don't think it will be possible in the future (St. John's needs to win a lot more to claim MSG), but the 2004 A10 final game was a shining example of court storming.

And worthy of court storming. 4 winds in 4 days was unprecedented at the time. It's those games that court rushing is for. The epic wins. Or the win after so many losses. If you find yourself rushing the court every year or so, your fan base needs to raise its standards.

I think if any of our fans every go after a player or coach on the court I would be pissed and embarrassed and want them arrested or suspended or expelled from the University. And I mean that. If you are drunk and you make a mistake, don't let that mistake be injuring some player or fighting on television wearing Xavier garb.

With that caveat, I SUPPORT ALL RUSHING THE COURT FROM MY XAVIER BRETHEREN!!!!

I know that people fear the liability, and they should. Drunk college kids are idiots, for one thing, and a herd of them with a pack mentality is a bad idea. I know it is wrong, but for them it is so right.

I rushed the court myself back in the day, and I hate it when all you old farts tell them not to rush the court. Guess what old farts, you aren't in college, and if it was up to you, these kids would never have any opportunity to rush the court. You don't get to rush the court and jump around like a jacked up idiot when you are 40 or 50 or 60. You get to rush the court when you are 20.

Be safe kids, and RUSH THE COURT!

And we have this same lame debate every year. I think the Mod should change the title every year to "The Lame Thread". I have read this year after year.

"ACT LIKE YOU BEEN THERE!"

Guess what, all those jacked up idiots are 18-22 years old, this is their first go round in this so called life, and they haven't been there, and they came here partly because we are AWESOME, and you can only act like you have been there once you have actually been there.

I rushed the court. It was a Crosstown Shootout. I had never been there before. The win was nice. The court was nice. I don't have to act like I have been there, because of that I have actually been there. I support all rushings of the court. No violence. No vandals. Just jumping up and down and screaming "Hell Yeah!"

And a lot of oldies were rushing the court up in Dayton when we won the A-10 Tourney. Maybe even some of our esteemed posters. So of course that is OK. Dancing on the UD Logo on UD Senior night was a fantastic idea. I was at that game. Brilliant.

Let the court rushing commence. These kids should not have to go through college without ever rushing a court just because some of you can't get an erection anymore and want to take it out on the young'uns.
