This game is freaking huge!!! Win and X is probably in the dance no matter what, although I will still be sweating it out selection Sunday. Lunardi said X needs two wins, well we got a huge one tonight boys! A win Saturday will give this team a much needed confidence booster. A win Saturday will allow this team to go into Hall and beat the living Sheet out of them. A win Saturday could get the ball rolling and possibly finish the season 22-9 12-6. I believe most of us thought X would go 21-10 11-7 and there is a great possibility that is going to happen. X is doing everything we predicted they would do, yet some fans are calling for Mack's head and saying the program is in turmoil. This is why you play the game and this is why you must relax and enjoy the ride. Tonight was so freaking AWESOME and I am pumped up for Saturday.

This is a bit off-topic, but we got screwed this year in scheduling.

5/9 Big East home games took place during a student break. Including our Big East debut, and big ones against Marquette, Creighton, and Villanova. The students were only in session for Georgetown (nice), Seton Hall (ugh), Providence (ok), and DePaul (ugh).

I'm not blaming anybody, just noting it kinda sucked how it worked out this year.

Good to see the students still picking up their tickets for Creighton though!

i've been frustrated with this all year. Need to be willing to stand up about 12-15 times, slap hands together with moderate vigor, and use your vocal cords a few octaves louder... it's not hard and it's not a pain when the person in front of you is standing up.

I've never liked the way Xavier did Spring Break. Most schools on semesters have their Spring Break the second week of March which is during conference tournaments in which I don't know if that is coincidence or not. Either way I feel Xavier should delay their Spring Break one week which would give students the opportunity to go to the remaining basketball home games. I know that probably isn't on X's administration mind when it comes to scheduling but it should.

Stopped by Listermann tonight, ansd Jason gave me a flyer.

Listermann's will be having a Xavier Fan Appreciation Day both before and after the game in thanks for the business we have brought them,

The deal is you pay $6 for your first pint of well crafted fresh locally made craft beer, AND you get to keep the pint glass. Need more, of course you do, refills are then $4. ($3 if you go with the Losantiville Pre-Prohibition style Lager) - and they will have a food truck.

In re: SRO tickets - those prices do sound high for SRO. Are we thinking the lower level SRO is the balcony outside DUff's/ Club Blue/ the banquet rooms? If so, that raises the question of why they are so strict on keeping fans out of that area any other game.

The last Creighton game at Cintas... as I recall the lights half went off after intros and delayed the game 15 minutes. The Xavier crowd and the players responded when play resumed. Damn!!! Why in God's name did I make plans to be flying out to San Diego on Saturday, and miss both the Creighton and Villanova games. Just because it's spring break at XU and my son and his wife now live in SD doesn't mean I should miss the two best games of the year (just like I did last year, I might add, when I missed the Memphis and VCU games for the same reason). Needless to say, my two tickets in 104 are being used (at no cost to the user because I am such a nice guy), but missing XU Appreciation Day at Listerman's which has my pre-game tailgate site since they began serving beer there adds insult to injury. Hell, I am the guy who gives them XU's home schedule every fall to make sure that they know all the game nights (and days) there. This truly sucks. I guess I will have to take solace today by checking out the Listerman taps at Ryans, plus I will be on the beach all next week in near 70-degree temps. I just wish Xavier could do their spring break AFTER the bball season ends.

I'm tempted to sign up on that site just to tell that guy to shove the Super Bowl crap back up his ass. It's just a crucial game, a-hole (LJay). If X wants to allow some extra fans in for that much more noise, so be it.

It is interesting though that this is the first SRO game at Cintas. They've had plenty of big/important games in that building. #1 St. Joe's, the Shootout, etc. Why hasn't it been done before?

After XU lost the third game in a row at Providence three weeks ago, a thread started on whether there was a chance to make the NCAA. This is a post I made at the time, when XU was stuck at 15 wins:

"I think 20 wins gets us in, while 19 is iffy (perhaps depending on whether one of them is against Creighton or Villanova).

So how likely is 5 more wins. One should be DePaul, at home. That leaves 4 to go. I see two basic paths to 4 wins.

Path A: Win 2 of 3 at home against Providence, Creighton, Villanova and 2 of 5 away against Butler, Marquette, Georgetown, St. John's, Seton Hall. I like the chances to win two on the road but not 2 at home. We should be narrowly favored against Providence but underdogs against the other two and I just don't like the chances against Villanova.

Path B: Win 1 of 3 at home and 3 of five away. I like the chances at home, and I think winning 3 on the road is doable though difficult. This requires, in my opinion, beating Butler (I think we match up well) and splitting the other four.

The more I think about it, we don't get to 20 wins without beating Providence, Butler, Seton Hall."

This analysis has stood up well. Path A and Path B both remain alive, and I feel more confident that one or both will come to pass.

Villanova was the third loss in a row. Provi actually broke a nice winning streak.

If we win, do you think the students will rush the court? I kind of hope they don't, but can see it happening. What do you guys think?

Zero percent chance it happens, unless it's a crazy buzzer beater. Xavier expects to win every home game so storming shows we didn't expect to win.

Also, isn't tomorrow supposed to be throw back jersey night? I haven't heard anything about it since they first announced it so I wonder if they aren't doing it anymore.

I don't know. The students are young, and this is the third straight season we haven't exactly been great (the Sweet Sixteen team two years ago was about 60 seconds from the NIT before Lyons saved them against Dayton). Plus, Spring Break will have begun, so there's a pretty good chance the students who are there will be REALLY, REALLY drunk. I could see the type of environment that would lead to a relatively foolish (but ultimately harmless) court rushing.

I hope we win, of course, but otherwise I'd prefer no court-rushing.

GO, you pretty much hit it. Never know the raw emotion of the moment with youth. I personally hope they (we) don't. Prefer acting like we've been here before and beating programs and/or ranked teams is the Xavier Way.

I wouldn't really care if we rushed the court or not, I'd just be excited we won

What? With Chief Couch running the security I seriously doubt the students could even rush the court.

You are right, Chief Couch is way to athletic and agile to allow any students on the court. He is a regular Bruce Jenner.

Rushing would not only be stupid but I don't even think it's really possible with how Cintas is set up. Too much in the way for the students even for a spontaneous rushing. Not easy to even get on the court, there's always security right there and now they moved press row right infront of the student section too. We should never storm the court and thaknfully I don't think we ever will

At the Shootout in 2004, I remember a group of what looked to be bodybuilders (I'm sure I'm making them bigger than they actually were) that positioned themselves between the students and the floor toward the end of the game. That eliminated any chance of rushing the court.

Is Chief Couch getting a sex change like Bruce Jenner? Who knew?

There are plenty of muffin tops in blue Cintas shirts that will have none of that rushing the court shenanigans

Just finished my Beat Creighton Pre-Game 10 Mile Long Run. Heading into the shower, then into my car and on the road to Dana's and a Xavier victory!

No students this game or nova so gonna have to hope the blue hairs can maybe overdose on their heart medication and be super pumped up.

NO 'blue hair' here! Class of '76 and rocking w the students and the Penn Station Half Court Shot! Forget ud. They left our conference in '96 to join uc's 'good midwest' league and belong on the sideline!
