He didn't practice yesterday and Lavin had said he probably won't play I thought, but I could definitely see him in the game and wired.

I think we can all agree it comes down to which X defense shows up and if they are going to decide to finally be strong with the ball and come out to play. I'm pretty sure they've been practicing for the 3-2 zone the Johnnies will play at some point in the game. I hope Jimmy Farr and Jalen get heavy doses tonight cause we're gonna need all the athleticism we can get.

Due to my sports investing (gambling) habits, I've seen a lot of St. Johns lately- actually they've been my horse. Something happened that started during the away game at Creighton when they lost by 3. That loss made them 12-9 (2-6).

Since then, they've gone 6-1 and something has clicked. They're legitimately in the conversation with Creighton and Villanova at the top of the conference when they're playing well. In fact, that group of 3 are really the only 3 in the BE that could beat anyone in the country when they're on- SJU is that talented.

I think we're in for a long night and will most likely be on the -6.

Once this team gets down by 7-8 on the road it's been game over. Really can't afford a poor first half performance again.

With the exception of Alabama, back when Alabama was actually decent before their SEC implosion. Against Creighton after Wragge, et. al., extended it to a double-digit margin, Xavier kept fighting and made it interesting near the end. Since then, the fire and the absence of fear on the road seems to have evaporated. When teams hit them, they don't hit back.

X led at Creighton by 13 early but also trailed by 14 in that game, a 27 point turnaround in about a 12 minute span. I just can't figure out why this team can play with anybody at home but looks like a sub 200 RPI team in the road.

Steve, that is why I don't understand people's focus on the personnel. Easily the biggest discrepancy in performance is whether it's home or away, not whether Player A or Player B is in the game. I would be ecstatic with a win tonight, whereas if it was at home, I would easily pick Xavier, even though SJU is significantly improved from the New Year's Eve meeting.

Xavier has just "flat out" (to borrow Brian Snow phraseology) failed to compete on the road.

Think about this....aside from beating two 2-win conference opponents, Xavier has failed to take larger than a four-point lead on the road since their loss at Creighton when, as you mentioned, their 13-point lead gave way to a 14-point deficit.

In their road games against Marquette, Providence, and Georgetown, they never led by more than THREE points. Hell, against Georgetown, they trailed wire-to-wire.

I'm pretty pleased so far. Shooting well and playing decent defense. I'm perfectly ok sagging back and forcing SJU to shoot jumpers. Especially when Stain and Philmore are in together. They just can't match the athleticism of SJU. Need to take care of the ball, though. Already a couple dumb turnovers.

I really enjoyed Stenger's enthusiasm and effort last year. Now that we have depth and talent at his position, I don't know why he plays. There is always a better option sitting on the bench when he is in the game.

I think our coach had a good game plan (we won on the road - hard to argue) and we were very deliberate on offense. Held them to 53 points. I usually like to see us run, but I prefer winning! Well done. Stain got screwed several times, but that's life on the road. Let's hope this is a coming out party for Jalen. Wow.
