Anyone watching True Detective? Finally got caught up to it last week. Very enjoyable show. For those that do watch it, who do you think the Yellow King is?

If "yellow" involved and one can assume that teeth are involved, then I believe YTG is the YK.
(Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread).

I tried watching the first episode, just couldn't do it, too weird.

I'm watching, but still behind. In fact, behind enough to not know who the Yellow King is. I'm hoping I can get the little lady into it, so I haven't been keeping up.
I am a huge fan of an 8 episode story arc idea. You can tell a great story when you are writing for an ending.

I've seen all but last nights episode. I thought the show was great, but episodes 4-5 were unbelievable. I was disappointed to hear there are only 8 episodes for the season.

Muskie, it's on HBO.
Kahns, I love the 8 episode arc as well. Also love that the episodes have all been written and directed by the same two people. Helps keeps the episodes consistent.

Great show. The wife and I like it a lot. As for the Yellow King? I don't think its Hart or Rust. I think its either a character we haven't been introduced to yet (yes, with only 2 shows left) or its not a person at all...The Yellow King may just be a deity that the cult worships.
I think Rust went deep undercover into the cult from 2002-2010 when he "disappeared."
I also think Hart's father in law is somehow involved in the cult and that Hart's daughter saw some bad stuff (ritual rape/murder) when she was a young child visiting her grand parents.
If the Yellow King ends up being Hart or Rust....I won't be too happy about that.

This show started out a bit on the slow side the first 2 eps, but has picked up considerably since then. It is a great show, and one I am glad I allowed myself to get hooked on in the beginning.
I think I read somewhere future seasons would involve different actors, did anyone else catch this? Or did I imagine it?

Another character that intrigues me a lot is the white haired detective that always pops up in the police station when Rust or Hart seem to onto something. I don't know if he has a name, but he was there when the task force first tried to take the case away from Rust and Hart and he was in the Chief's office when Rust was being reprimanded for talking to the preacher.
Nigel, I also won't be that happy if Rust or Hart are the yellow king. But I suspect that's what it is going to be. The show is True Detective, not True Detectives. I think that implies one of them isn't on the up and up. (Hoping I'm wrong though)

The writing and acting in the show is superb. Harrelson is great...McConaughey is even better....when did that guy become such a good actor? Until this show, all I saw McConaughey as was Darrell Wooderson (all right, all right, all right). But even beyond the writing and acting, the most impressive part of the show had to be Alexandra and her Daddario's in Episode 2. Good God, man!!
After watching this show, I am definitely interested in seeing McConaughey's performance in Dallas Buyer's Club.

Absolutely incredible set of "Daddario's".

A lot of people think the short life of the show is the best part. It has to conclude and judging by the show thus far the ending will be tremendous.

You didn't imagine it. Next season will be a different serial murderer, different setting, different characters, etc. That may be one of the reasons HBO was able to land Woody and McConaughey. 1 season, 8 episodes and they're done. No long term commitment.

He was awesome in that movie, and I've been just as impressed with his performance in True Detective.

Would love to answer the question if I know....but I'm not sure of the question.

It was my understanding that either McConaughey or Harrelson or both were planning to stay with the series for the second season, but not in acting roles, either as director(s) or executive producer(s).

For as amazing as this show was, I think the last episode was my least favorite. The production quality was all around amazing. Only downside is that we'll have wait a long time for the next season.

I enjoyed the last episode. The chase through Carcosa was great and I enjoyed that final scene with Kohle and Marty. I was glad that it ended on somewhat of a happy moment. Was dreading that it would end tragically.

Honestly the character development of Kohle through 8 episodes was just insane when you look at what Dexter did with 8 YEARS.
Great show and loved the ending too.

Loved the whole series and last episode, but I was kind of waiting for a final twist. Whoever played the killer was great, the whole British accent bit gave me the chills.
Now I just gotta wait for Game of Thrones to start up again!

I'm cautiously optimistic about this next season. I thought the first season was amazing but I think a lot of it had to do with the acting from McConaughey and harrellson. I think Vaughn is going to be awesome, but I don't think Colin Farrell has been in one thing where I have been wow that's a great actor.

I will be watching but am not sure what to expect either. Is the story completely new or continuing? I kind of forget everything that happened at the end of last season.

Completely new..set in California I believe this time. I've read some non spoiler reviews and they have said a lot less dark which I don't know how I feel about that.

Thanks.
I dont mind it being a little less dark. I agree we'll have to see about Colin Farrell though.
Where is this, HBO? Can you get the first season on Amazon/Netflix? My son enjoyed it but not sure where to find it.

I think it is just because the season is over with, but you can actually watch the first season on Amazon Video now for about 25 dollars....or just buy the thing on DVD or Blu-Ray for around the same price.
