This Xavier team enters into our next game in a very unique and precarious position.
We are currently tied for third in the conference, and on everyone's tourney list. If we lose we will drop to fifth at least, and at that vantage point the future of our tourney hopes is very blurry. Once we get mixed up in the scrum of teams from the Big East (Marquette, Providence, Georgetown, & St. Johns), the picture is a very precarious position indeed.
If we lose to St. Johns we will fall behind them in the standings. That would be bad. If we beat them not only do we advance our lead, but we have the tie breaker for having swept them in the season. If we beat them they will not be a factor for us, basically.
We have beaten three teams on the road. Alabama, DePaul, and Butler. DePaul and Butler are the two worst teams in this conference, and Alabama isn't any better. A victory over SJU would be a huge movement in our favor.
This is the biggest game of our season. I think if we win this game, I like our chances of making the tournament. I think if we lost this game, I don't like our chances of making the tournament. It is nice to reduce one game to those terms. We know what we got and what we got to do. Time to go do it. Our backs are firmly against the wall.

Agree this a very important game and I really hope X comes to play. That being said I think X has a better chance of beating Creighton and Nova at home. If X can beat Nova and Creighton they will dance.

If X beats Creighton or Nova, they will be in the tourney. I anticipate 1-1 on the road and 1-1 at home in these last 4 games.
If you go down the list of Big East teams, it seems like every single team has sprung a surprising win this season in-conference, except Xavier. We can't go chalk from here on out. We've put ourselves in the unenviable position of needing to go above and beyond and springing some upsets if we have any hope of going dancing.
I don't know, fellas. I don't know that that kind of Xavier team has existed at any point this season, save one night in December.

This team has given us no reason to believe they can beat a decent team on the road. St John's is playing great right now.. I just hope beating either Nova or Creighton at home and beating Seton Hall on the road will be enough assuming we can even do that.

Gotta get to 20 wins. If we do and beat either Creighton or Villanova, I think we're in.

At this point, I am not optimistic we can beat any the 4 teams left on our schedule. I don't like how we've played on the road, and we are in major need of a Lionel Chalmers paint peeling wake up call.
David West is not walking through that door....Jordan Crawford is not walking through that door....we need to get this band of misfits and bad shooters out of their funk and playing some hard nosed fu**ing Xavier basketball!!

I like the optimism from everyone, but if they lose to St. Johns tomorrow night Xavier will probably have to win the Big East tournament or at least make it to the finals to get in the tourney. Wins over Villanova and Creighton would be great, but the committee will look at neutral and road wins which X doesn't really have. The two remaining road games are far more important than the Villanova and Creighton games.

If xavier somehow beats Nova and Creighton they are in, easily. A bubble team Beating two top 10 teams in the last week of the season (which would make 3 top 10 wins all year) doesn't get in? No way.

Yes. Plain and simple
Xavier could lose to St. John's and Seton Hall and their first game in the BET, but would be in easily if they beat both Creighton and Villanova. Only problem is that's not feckin happening.

I guess they should just cancel those games.

The good news is that there are still multiple ways to get in (split at home and on the road, sweep at home, sweep on the road, or win the BE tournament). Unless Xavier is 100% out of the tournament, I'm going to plan on them making the tournament

Funny to compare this years typical February "LET'S GO!" threat to last years. We won 2 games against top 25 teams and laid turds in 4 losses (I still remember the 2nd half VCU meltdown).
Luckily, this year, we're on the inside. Last year, we needed 5+ wins (including the tournament). As many mentioned, 2-2 plus to finish the season a win at the Garden will at least keep us on the bubble.

Then you may be highly dissapointed come Selection Sunday if that becomes true. You absolutely need road wins and if you don't have them, you are out.
I am hoping for a beam to fall from the ceiling and we get a forfeit for at least one road game. Maybe even two! (Hey, a guy can hope... and based on recent results that might be our best chance.) Hoping to bounce back though. They can do it.

I'm sorry, but this is just plain wrong. Even I know that if Xavier would somehow miraculously beat Villanova and Creighton they are in and easily. Have you seen how weak the bubble normally is, especially this year. If they go 2-2 they are in period and rather easily. Getting to 2-2 is the very hard part though.

The comments of "Glad to see all the optimism" and the sarcastic "Season is over!!!" are starting to get old. The people making those comments are looking into other people's comments the wrong way.
Everyone that's saying this is the biggest game of the season and saying how frustrating the last couple weeks have been.. are really saying "Let's f***ing go!" We want the guys to come out tomorrow with that hard-nosed look in their eyes that says I'm gonna kick your ass. X got a bad rep since the fight but they haven't got the dog mentality back in this program ever since. This team needs more emotion and the drive to want to win. X needs to get the mentality back that they aren't intimidated or afraid of anyone
