Edit - I originally posted I hope if they can hit from 15 inches, and that is also true. This year has proven the need for that.

That's what they didn't do in the second half last time. They wouldn't exploit the pressure's vulnerabilities, so DePaul was able to pressure with a reckless abandon.

I have a great friend (and a great athlete/competitor) from X who's daughter played D-1 ball. They came to Orlando for a hoops tourney while she was a high school senior. He was waving a huge sign that said "ATTACK OR BE ATTACKED". My kids were younger but they took that with them. (Sometimes to an extreme - that involved some summer league rules being revised)

He was waving a huge sign that said "ATTACK OR BE ATTACKED". My kids were younger but they took that with them. (Sometimes to an extreme - that involved some summer league rules being revised)

Playing the clock game. Take the shot clock to under 5 seconds, one shot and down to the other end of the floor. I'm not a fan of it, but it's what they're doing.

Fact is that going into this game, Xavier is giving up 40.3% on 3's and teams are out scoring us 8.5 -4.3 average per game on 3's. That is on all games and we're' giving up over 9 on average in the league. This is not good.

I'm not enthralled with the fact that we still hedge on ball screens and many times because of that, others are out of position to defend the 3. We have got to stop this insanity.

This 3 defense combined with Creighton coming to town would seem to add up to a lot of pain.

Thankfully today, Xavier was able to match DePaul from behind the arc (8-for-10 versus 7-for-22 for the Demons). Another great stat for tonight was 23 assists on 27 made shots (versus 13 turnovers).

Georgetown's backcourt will certainly be a handful on Saturday, but they aren't invincible. Hopefully Semaj will have his game of the year from a defensive standpoint.

The crappiness that is DePaul contributed mightily to things going so right. I wouldn't expect the same degree of crappiness at Georgetown.

Got the student section all excited and cheering. Looked like the ref was admonishing him not to do that while he gave him the ball to shoot the free throws.

Spectacular offensive game by Dee. 17 pts on 6 for 7 (4-5 from 3), 7 assists, only 1 TO. I don't know how much he was on Young, who went 3-16.

I don't love Martin doing pushups, but I certainly don't hate it either. I'd rather have Martin feeling confident and arrogant out there as opposed to whatever it was he was feeling before this season started.

I cannot say his defense was much better, though, even though his man shot very poorly from the field. That DePaul team is absolutely horrible. DePaul had wide-open looks most of the night, they just didn't knock them down. On to Georgetown and the two-headed guard monster they will send into the ring against us.

2. NOTES: DePaul played at Xavier for the first time since Feb. 9, 1974, when the Blue Demons beat the Musketeers 77-70.



Xavier blowing out a team that was rather well known for believing it was too good to form a midwestern league of Catholic schools not too many years after that loss.

The Cintas Center. No one could possibly have seen that coming as they sat on their beer-stained bench in Schmidt that dismal evening.

I decided to read it as him playing to the students on what was a quasi-senior night. I'd like to think he wouldn't have done it if he weren't on their end of the court and largely shielded by a bunch of players.
