Due to some of the roof of Assembly Hall falling into the seats about two hours ago....

That place sucks. Assuming no one was injured, this is cause for celebration.
It's also pretty good symbolism for IU basketball right now.

Well, THAT would have ruined your day if you had been sitting there.

Wow...really lucky that place was empty...would have killed a few people.

Tom Crean clearly did this. He's delaying the inevitable.

Games can be a complete pain in the ass to reschedule.
I say they go ahead and play. In a crowd of over 16,000, if only twenty of them are seriously injured, that's actually pretty good odds.

Exactly. I mean how many fans are critically injured in a typical game? 30? 40?

Can they get Bob Knight to throw away the chair that got damaged?

Iowa offered to play at bankers Life in Indy tomorrow night. IU declined citing logistics.

I think this situation is really unfair to Iowa. I think the Big Ten should consider making IU forfeit.

Have they said how long Assembly Hall will be out or commission. Then again I would venture the proper inspectors haven't had time to come in and inspect the damages.

Given that the issue is on IU's end, how could they possibly be permitted to decline a reasonable offer? What a bunch of horse shit.

A perfectly reasonable proposal. If I was Iowa I'd tell them they're more than welcome in Iowa City next Thursday. Otherwise they can forfeit.

Have a friend and their season tickets are one row in front of and one to the side of that seat. Scary stuff.

The replacement/rennovation or Assembly Hall has been a hot topic for almost a decade (if not longer). The way that it was designed/contructed make it difficult to rennovate. While it is unappealing to the eye (in my opnion), that place is designed to get loud, and it does. Hands down the loudest arena I have ever been in.
I know there is an option on the table for about a $30mm rennovation of the place, but I wonder if this occurance will lead them into the path of replacement. I wouldimagine that would run the tune of $200mm at a minimum (when looking at size and amenities needed) I assume they would want to keep it in the same "complex" as it is in now. The football stadium, along with the Mellencamp indoors athletics facility and the new Basketball practice facility sit in a cluster with Assembly. The practice facility is attached. Have to wonder where they squeeze a new arena in there (and still have it connected to the practice facility. Maybe the other side of the street? I dont know where they would put it to keep it in the cluster. Plus the deconstruct of the current assembly hall wont be cheep.
Who was the genius who decided a concrete roofed structure supported by steel cables was a good idea?

So do I. I've actually got a handful of friends who are associated with IU. I genuinely am glad they're safe, but I've been having fun with this all day.

Just to be clear, if twenty or so people were severely, or even fatally injured due to metal beams falling from the sky, I do think IU should be held responsible and have to reimburse those fans the face value price of the ticket. But, like I said earlier, it's only 20 or so people out of a crowd of over 16k. The odds are good. There was no reason to cancel the game.

"Get hit with a rafter, win a bobblehead night" would probably be a really big hit with Kentucky fans.

Maybe John Cougar could hold a concert to help offset renovation costs.
The encore would clearly be Crumblin' Down.
