I love talking basketball, especially Xavier basketball, as for some 14 years it was my bread and butter. Because of it, I met, drank, and dined with some of the game’s brightest and most renowned “experts” the kind that made a living winning games, and even national championships.

So, I’m at least fairly well versed in the game.

It does not amaze me that there are so many former, and current CYO grade school coaches posting here and (over there) who always have the answers when things don’t go the way they think they should.

One fella last week (on MM) danced on X’s grave, after the Providence game.

He wrote he played D-1 and coached HS for 13 years. Surely, (and I don’t doubt what he is saying), he could tell us where (along with his D-1 statistics, and whether he was the HS head coach, an assistant, a reserve coach, or Frosh coach … and his W-L record. Think that will be forthcoming? Nah! But, he does state he knows all the answers.

And here we are in third place, a two game lead over the 4th and 5th place teams. This being a team that was slotted in the bottom half of the BE in pre-season predictions. Even though to some Chris “can’t coach” we need “better assistants” should be playing “zone more” starting line-up is “wacky” and Mack makes poor substitutions.

How in the name of the Lord has this coach who makes poor decisions with bad assistants won 16 games, 105 in his time at X, been to three dances, and will be there again this year?

Yep, I am one of those who always think the glass is half full. And I truly believe that Chris and his staff know damn well what they are doing, and why.

Suspend a player and the board goes wild with rumors, from spitting on the floor to that nasty illegal stuff. And many posters think they are entitled to a complete and thorough explanation. They’re not.

And BTW, anyone who thinks the A-10 is a better conference as some post, than the new BE, need only to look at the OOC schedules of the BE (30 some games against major BB programs across the country) and the W-L against that competition.

The BE will only get better than it even is now in the years ahead. I might also say, that watching BE games I readily see a huge physical difference in the old BE teams and Butler and us. We will catch up in that category starting next winter, and that is another plus for the BE over the A-10.

“The BE or the A-10”, asks a recruit. Well, 95% of the time, it will be the BE, also because Mom, Dad, and grandparents can see me play on national TV game in and game out.

Now, anyone wanna take shots at what I say/think? Fine. I do have to leave you with one thought though. There are a lot of so-called XU fans that I never want to have to share a fox hole with, ‘cause the first sign of trouble, that fox hole will get damn lonely.

And yeah, I know … “we’re entitled to our opinions “ … yadda yadda yadda

Go X, and TRUST IN MACK

AL - just remember that the most negative people tend to be the most vocal. The doomsdayers (if that's a word) are not the majority.

I don't know. Sounds like before there was a chance for trouble you'd have already chased them out of the fox hole with all your ranting and raving about how they don't say the Pledge of Allegiance loudly enough each morning or salute the generals quite like you think they should.

You are reading message boards, and that is the nature of the beast. I am aware of the blow hards that feel because they coached a few games in CYO they know everything about basketball. But this isn't each and every poster.

"Real Fans" as you asked us to be, are fanatical. People who act fanatical don't always act rational or level headed. You will see a lot more of the gloom and doom posters on MM but that is the way that board has always been. You find posters here with knee jerk reactions all the time, and if you don't like it, then maybe message boards are not the best source of reading material for you.

Telling the board to be "real fans" isn't going to solve anything. The most die hard of all Xavier fans are on these boards, and if you don't think they are being rational, I suggest you step away from the screen and find some other way to spend your time.

Go the phog message board today, after their road OT loss to KSU by 3 there are debbie downers who proclaim they aren't that good. This happens everywhere.

I love threads that tell us whether or not we're acceptable as fans based on how we post on a message board! This kind of thread is second only to the kind where we yell at people who are not in their seats before the National Anthem.

Are you kidding? My husband and father (usually the only two people I ride with) are both of the opinion that if you're not in your seat in time to see the shoot around a half an hour before tip, you're late. If either of them were on here, they'd join in the bashing of and feeling superior over those who are late to their seats. But, I don't quite share the fervor!

Well, it is a Catholic school, so getting there late and leaving early are kind of ingrained.

Anyway, I agree with most people here. You get the crazies on here - of course they're going to go off the deep end after a loss. Just don't go off the deep end with them.

When I was a high roller and snucck my way into Joseph Club, I got there when gates opened. It was a long wait, but then again, I just drank more than what I should have....and I may have gotten charged less than what I should have. Haha. Those times, it was totally worth the early arrival.

Dash, Titan and Lady...So wat else is new? Sometimes I believe it's an adventure in masochism to read any board after a Xavier or any other school's defeat. Sic transit gloria mundi as the soldiers say. Which soldiers??? How the hell should I know. Just another line in the long list of appropriate or inappropriate cliches, take your pick. I just watched another Xavier victory and some damned effeminate kid is yelling "Toaster strudel " on the TV.

Nuts, I love ya son, and you're right, but don't come down too hard on A.L. He is right in many respects too, but most of the venom is directed at jerks on the other board, who are ludicrous know- it- alls.

A.L. has a long Xavier history and is also a Great American. He has done many superb things for XU. He just gets frustrated with the nattering nabobs of negativism over there and has been chastised on that place so much that he's given up posting there.

I welcome the man here. He is Xavier Blue thru and thru.

I agree with Q. When Xavier loses I very rarely come on the board to read. Or at least I wait a few days before doing so because I get tired of reading about the horrible state of the program. I get just as upset when they lose, but really, we are not going to win every game or even every game we are supposed to win. It just happens. Any given day/night, any basketball team can beat another - that my friends, is the beauty and (the horror) of college basketball.

Same here. Honestly, sometimes I wish I had the stamina to stick up for the team after losses, but usually it's just easier to stay away. I'm just too much of a positive pete to handle naysayers (whether or not criticism is justified).

I'm kind of a 80% real / 20% synthetic blend fan. I taste almost like the real thing, but with the durability of artifical fanness. 80/20 is also occasionally reflective of my blood cell to alcohol ratio in my circulatory system. I agree that we should fire Chris Mack immediately and replace him with a coach with a proven track record and a history of taking teams to the NCAA's, like that Chris Mack guy from Xavier. I hear he's going to be available soon.

I think that Mack should also switch up the starting lineup. He should start absolutely nobody. Allow the opponent to take the tip in uncontested for 2 points. Then call a time out, and bring 5 guys off the bench. Think about the beauty of this plan. We will absolutely crush every single opponent in "points off the bench". Pure genius.

Then my advise to him is to stop reading MM like most of the rest of us have. I gave up that board many years ago for the same reason. It is a den of negativity. The sky is never blue enough, the grass is never green enough, and nothing is ever good enough for the posters on MM

That placed is filled with blow-hards, know-it-alls, and more negative energy that you can find at a suicide assistance rally.
