Boy I hate Butler. I hope we give them a good old fashioned beat down. We have to win this game to continue on the NCAA Tournament pathway.
X looks like crap!. Butler is hitting everything. Oh wait......the game hasn't started yet.
Let's hope we're not making Nostrdomus comments later. We need a strong start.... and a strong finsh... and everything in between. This game scares me more than most. Hope I'm wrong because a loss against these guys while they're relatively down would really hurt, even on the road.

Oh wait, this game may take all night as the clock at Hinkle only runs when butler is leading.

Heard on channel 12..."Xavier's had a rough time so far in the big East." Do they know the Muskies are in 3rd place? I'd hardly call being in 3rd place in one of the best conferences in the country having "a hard time".

A strategically placed "lately" in that statement replacing a "so far" would have made it accurate.
It is a very fair statement if you replace the subject of the sentence with Butler.

I couldn't go either way given where I live, but if I lived in Cincy the 9:00 game would have been easier for me to do. Get off work and on the road at 6 and you can still get there. For a 7:00 game, it's impossible without leaving work early. I can suck it up on 4-5 hours of sleep the next day.

I can see that. I've got a very flexible schedule so it would be different for me. If I were still in my "previous life" I'd feel the same way, I guess.

Like what Reynolds is bringing to the table. He's doing a nice job of handling the double team and kicking the ball back out.

That was a solid first half. Credit to Butler for hitting a few open threes, because X is making them work hard to get any other shot off. This could be a 15-point lead if just a couple of those bunnies dropped. I know the margin is only 9 at half, but it feels like a 20-point lead.
And welcome back, Dee's jumper. Good to see you again.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Butler team just give up. They just gave up tonight. I don't know if it was our defense or whatever, but man, I don't EVER want to see a Big East team quit like that. It was an utter beat down, like we were playing in a scrimmage.
But I do love how their vaunted fanbase was nowhere to be seen. Welcome back to reality Butler.
Interesting observation about Butler "quitting". I can think of one game in particular that I made the same observation about a year ago. Good luck the rest of the way. Maybe we renew acquaintances in March.

Would it be possible to start a fan poll to vote for the tackiest of the stupid billboards in Stinkle Hall?
I'm going with Fred's Tractor Sales & Repair In Pigsnuckle, IN.
And this from ESPN: It was the second straight win for the Musketeers (17-7, 7-4 Big East) and gave Xavier a season sweep in a series it has dominated recently. The Musketeers have won eight of the last 10 against the Bulldogs.

Best all-around effort by the Muskies in a while, but dear God Butler put up one of the worst performances I've seen out of a major conference team at home. I would be drinking heavily tonight if I was Butler fan.

That was a true beatdown in the second half, but Xavier held them to two points for almost six minutes of the first half and shocked them at the start of the second. And when you hold Dunham to 2 bloody points on 1 of 10 shooting and 0-fer from three, you've done one helluva fantastic job. Dunham is 6-6 and Dee barely 6-0 and look at his 36-minute line in the box score. It's similar to the job done by a kid named Burrell?? I think Mack's coaching job wasn't too bad either...Starting Stenger, which apparently built a fire under Philmore and the play of Reynolds is improving each game. Now the next project is to get Farr back to his improved self and keep the fire burning. Damned tough at Bradley Center on Saturday but if X can pull that one out. there will be a lot of relaxed people on selection Sunday. Still the most impressive stat 18 assists on 27 made field goals. Funny (sarcastic remark coming) how only two Xavier players Semaj and Stenger shot Xavier's 7 free throws??? Not a lot of and-ones.

I'm not sure if the last comment is a complaint about the refs, but I thought this was a really well-officiated game. The play was relatively clean, and the refs stayed out of it for the most part.

I'm guessing not very well since we stole their two highest profile recruits.
Butler was 10-2 in non conference including a win over Pur-who. They lost only to Oklahoma State and LSU by 2 points each. They are now 12-12.
Welcome to the big leagues sonny.

Good solid win. Very impressed with the D last night. Jalen played a solid game, great job passing out of the post. Nice to see Dee hit some threes.

It's understandable. They could hear the Butler death rattle and were trying to keep people from changing the channel.

Have heard that team of announcers a number of times,,, just so so. Right from the start the tone of the game from them and the fox sports studio was that yes Butler sucks, but you can't count them out. Not surprising since their job is to get people to watch instead of switching over to another game.
Watching Butler is what annoyed me.
One thing kept popping into my mind over and over again. Brad Stevens' replacement out there seems has a mind boggling offense. Seemed like about 80% of possession in the half court, it was swing the ball around the perimeter and chuck up a 3 pointer. 25 of their 53 shots came from 3, add that to the number of perimeter shots just inside the line, only 16 of their points came in the paint. Having Elijah Brown come off the bench in every game, when he's scoring 7 points a minute in 18 per game, and the top scorer pops 16 in 36 minutes is kind of silly. I mean it makes sense if you are winning but,,,,,,,,, That kind of game against anyone but Presbyterian is what leads to a near empty arena with 8 minutes left in the game.

Stephen Bardo is very good. I like listening to him. He was extremely complementary of Xavier. He also said they can be a real sleeper in the tourney because of good inside play, good team defense, and a Maj who can take over a game.
They also noted the shots Xavier was getting compared to Butler's shots was a huge difference.
Just a solid game by X (especially on defense) and the game was never in doubt. Great to avoid the bad loss and get a road win.

No one who is sane disagrees about Semaj. But that does not mean he gets selected as star of each game. Dee gets that for this game.
Dee doesnt get the shots he gets without Semaj almost always taking two defenders with him. He also doesn't get 9 assists without Semaj converting a high percentage of shots. Just making the point that you cant have one without the other.

Stenger outscored Dunham.. just let that sink in for a moment.
Butler looked absolutely awful, throwing up terrible shots, forcing a lot of things, and we just played phenomenal defense, and made smart plays. We didn't get to the line much but had a lot of good plays around the rim, solid games from both Dee and J-Mart (even with the stupid technical), hopefully the good momentum continues at Marquette!

I know exactly what you are talking about. Raftery finished complimenting X, then Rob Stone said, "Man isn't Butler tough?" or something to that degree right before heading back to Hinkle. That was a head scratcher.
But I thought Bardo had a nice call.

His name is pronounced Se ma jay, so depending how you say "Maj" it cuts it down by a syllable or two.
Everyone has to have a nickname of some kind I suppose.

I don't think Butler was able to really get inside against our defense, particularly with Stainbrook and Philmore in there. They just couldn't handle that size differential (except Chrabascz to a degree).

Nothing wrong with the technical. Wasn't even that bad of a hanging on the rim incident. Well worth it due to the dunk. In a close game I might agree, but you're the only one Ive seen on 3 boards and twitter have a slight issue with it. Not judging you per se just saying it wasn't a big deal

In a close game, that would have pissed me the hell off. As it was, it was completely meaningless, and I kind of wished he'd stayed up their long enough to tear down the rim. It could have joined the water fountain in Xavier's Hinkle Fieldhouse lore.

Butler ranks 228th in the nation at three-point attempts to field goal attempts. Only 24.1% of their field goal attempts are from deep on the season. In this game, though, 47.2% were.

I have, a few times outside of when they played X, and it's nice to have a perimeter offense, It;s also nice to be able to do something else when your perimeter offense (7 of 25 from 3) does not work. He has some size, and has some players that have the ability to do something other than spot up. It was just painful to watch.
