Yeah, a conference that is going to have 5 ranked teams is so bad. While the Big East will have 2 ranked teams and will be lucky to get 4 bids. No surprise that the two UC obsessed posters are the only ones who replied to this thread. So predictable...

I always find it interesting when UC fans come to a Xavier board and claim, again and again, that certain Xavier fans are "obsessed" with UC. This is particularly interesting when said UC fan has 125 posts on said Xavier board since December 2013.

They might stay in at number 10, but will probably fall to 12 or 13, unless other teams ranked behind UC also lose this weekend.

SMU has been a lot of fun to watch.
A few years ago I started counting the people while at one of their games, and my best guess was that there were 67 people there. At a game. At a div1 basketball game.
Now, they're all sold out, it's loud, and they've clobbered two ranked teams at home. They are home court heroes because they can't seem to beat anyone away from home, but it's still a huge step up from where they were before. It's always fun to watch a team ascend onto the scene.

The also play mostly freshman and sophomores and are adding a top 5 recruit at PG next year. I expect them to be picked to win the league and be a pre-season top 15 team next year. They have a chance to be special. This season is their coming out party.
They had tickets that were usually 10-15 dollars going for 100 dollars last night!!

Interesting. A fan base that supports their team. UC has their highest ranking in a dozen years, brings in another ranked team, and still can't sell out the Shoe. I wonder when the administration will wake up and realize that Mick is your problem, not your solution. He got T'd up last night arguing an out of bounds call? The few fans who are still buying tickets may tolerate his antics, but the rest of the basketball fans that aren't showing up are simply fed up with him. The team is nowhere close to #7 in the country. Vegas had unranked SMU as a strong favorite last night.
Get back in your hole.

Amazing how suddenly you are an expert on UC basketball. He has now won at least 20 games 4 straight years and will make his 4th consecutive NCAA tournament. He took a team that was expected to be a bubblish team to a 22-3 record and a top 10 ranking. Cincinnati fans are fortunate that he is an alum, otherwise he'd might be gone right now.
I love how after every loss this nonsense starts up. Chris Mack is the coach in this city running his program into the ground. Cincinnati's last 4 home games have exceeded the attendance in ANY Xavier game this season in the first year of the mighty Big East.

Well, that is just patently false. If you are going to get all worked up on a rival's message board, AT LEAST have your facts straight. 2 out of the last 4. I have no idea where you got your "facts".
UC's having a great year, and there are a lot of positive things for UC fans to talk about. Fan support and attendance for UC basketball isn't one of them.
UC is averaging 7,702 fans per game. Xavier is averaging 9,825. That is 28% higher for Xavier, or 2,123 fans every game. Xavier has had 5 sellouts out of their 14 home games. UC has had 0. Xavier's lowest attendance was 9,086, UC's was 5,113. UC had game after game after game with attendance in the 5000 and 6000's. That says they have an incredibly weak season ticket base. That should be concerning to ole Mick if he really wants to get private charter jets like "even Chris Mack does."

What point exactly are you trying to make?
2 of Xavier's sell-outs were over Christmas break.
You are waging a losing battle if you are going to argue about UC fan support and attendance. It's putrid. That's why UC's beat writer had to write a piece about it with Mick whining.
UC is averaging 7,702 fans per game. They are having their best year in 15 years. Half of their games had 5,000-6,000 tickets sold. That's embarrassing.

So what- that's 6 games. Are you disputing that UC's overall home attendance this year is about 7700 per game? And my top secret inside sources tell me that even those are numbers are inflated.
P.S. That 7700 per game seems accurate. I note that there were about 5500 in attendance for the big against Chicago State and 5100 for USC upstate. This leads me to believe that UC's season ticket base must be pathetic if you get that low of attendance figures for certain games.
The bigger question I have you for you is this- why are you so obsessed with Xavier? You have 132 post here in less than 2 months. If you keep up that pace, you may be passing GoMuskies in a little while.

There are actually three ways that a school can calculate its attendance, which is strange. Here they are....
1. The actual turnstile count. I don't know why this is not the only way a school is allowed to count attendance, because it is the only method that actually gives you the actual attendance.
2. The number of tickets sold
3. (my personal favorite). AN ESTIMATE!!! Yes, you're actually allowed to GUESS how many people you think are in attendance, and report that as your official attendance.
There is no way in hell UC had 5000 people at some of those early games. Even if that was the actual reported attendance, there is no way that many people were actually there.
To be fair, I don't think Xavier always uses a turnstile count either, but their attendance has been better than UC's. Even with UC using options #2 or #3 to boost their official attendance, which they CLEARLY are doing (at least early on), Xavier's is still better.
Arguing over official attendance is actually kind of dumb, since two of the three ways you're allowed to count your attendance don't involve counting the actual number of people in attendance. But, if you are going to argue about it, UC's is sub par for a power conference team who is in the rankings., and that's an understatement.

Mick Cronin turned down NC State who had a contract on the table, he also turned down Missouri and Minnesota. All three of those are pretty good P5 jobs. The place he'd leave for would be one of the elite jobs (Duke, UK, etc) or the NBA. He isn't going to the types of schools you mentioned...

I've said it all along, Xavier fans would pay for Mick to stay at UC. I hope he stays as long as possible.
We had a scare there where most UC fans wanted him gone, we're safe now. 3 tourney appearances in 7 seasons, while Mack is working on his 3rd sweet 16 run in 5 years, with a top 20 recruiting class on the way.
This SMU game isn't surprising, UC is a paper tiger. Horrible offensive team, which is a Mick staple.

Personally, I'm glad UC is having a good year. I think it's good for the city when both schools are doing well.
That being said, I did thoroughly enjoy watching them get blown out of the building last night. A loss to a top 50 team on the road isn't a bad loss in the slightest, but UC got straight steamrolled last night.

Cherry picking games is weak-sauce. Fact is, UC's attendance is embarrassing. UC is a school with over 30,000 undergrad students and probably close to 100,000 local alumni and they are averaging less than 8,000 fans per game to see a (supposedly) top 10 team.

That is correct. Xavier fans would like UC to lose, then watch Xavier win. That is sort of the perfect day. Saturday we had to win first, then watch UC lose. That was fine too. Not sure what is weird about that, unless of course you meant to use the word "than" which would change your whole point.
UC fans would rather troll a Xavier board than post on their own boards. It is a weird obsession for sure.
There are 5 threads about the Providence game, with 4 times more posts than there are in this thread. Also, you have your settings wrong if you are only seeing 10 posts per page. You can go up to 40, which makes the site far more enjoyable.
I'm going to go back to waiting for UK and Duke to offer me coaching jobs, because it's just as likely as Mick getting that call.

I think SMU/Memphis/Louisville/UConn are all over rated. As far as attendance, when I was at XU students went to games for free. We always had a great student turnout. I don't know if Cincy charges their kids to attend games. This could be a difference. When XU can draw 90% for some bottom feeder game, that's impressive. UC obviously doesn't have that kind of loyalty from their students and Alumni.

I did go to the UC vs. UConn game and the place was almost full and really loud. The student sections also had a good turnout. A UC fan I was with did mention that many more students were there than normal.

Overrated or not, SMU is rated. That's amazing.
Two years ago, saying SMU would be ranked in two years would have been a lot like saying that in two years, the Big South will send six teams to the NCAA Tournament and have two #1 seeds.
It's just crazy. Overrated or not, it's still crazy.
SMU may not be one of the 25 best teams in the country. In fact, they're probably not. That place is a snake pit, though. They are home court heroes. Really good teams would have a hard time winning there.

Regarding SMU, impressive how quickly Larry Brown, one of the greatest bball coaches ever, turned that program around. Especially at his age.

Remember when the best recruit from the City of Cincinnati in the last 10 years chose Xavier? Semaj "league bound" Christion didn't even entertain the possibility of playing at UC. Cronin really missed on that one.
Glad that you all got Yancy Gates and we got Semaj. Much better player and person.

Cronin didn't offer Christon a scholarship. I don't know the reason, but they were never heavily involved in his recruitment.
Also, it depends on the recruiting service. Rivals rated Gates higher than Christon, while Scout rated Christon higher. Xavier tried their best to land Gates but he turned them down...

I think Cronin was busy developing his contacts at UK and Duke.

Cronin was aware that Semaj already had toilet paper and didn't need his letter.

Xavier fans would rather UC lose, then win themselves. It is a weird dynamic for sure. They'd rather criticize a coach who is a candidate for National Coach of the Year because it makes them feel better about their floundering coach...
I am curious to hear your definition of floundering.
Tourney success- check
Recruiting class- check
Sending players to the next level- check
Has team in 3rd place in a top 4 conference- check
Administration and fan support- check
Now if you're talking about a losing streak that spanned all of 3 games then yes, he's floundering badly...along with Thad Matta, Bo Ryan, Roy Williams and Bill Self. Do us all a favor and try to look more than 3 inches beyond your nose. I have the same issue with my 10 year old.

No post season last year, two years ago barely got in as a 10 seed, this year the seeding will be similar if they get in at all. Throw in the fact that a lot of his recruits haven't qualified or left the school causing him to grab a bunch of transfers. Definitely not headed in the right direction. He could turn it around though...

I'm going to asses this post as being 25% correct, 75% incorrect. You seem to be taking facts that in and of themselves are true and drawing blatantly erroneous conclusions from them. If you want to believe that Xavier basketball is trending down then that's you're prerogative. Who am I to stop you?
I appear to be the exception, but I will want what is best for X in almost every case. We need signature wins (especially away from Cintas), and if UC wins out that helps us. If they lose out it could be the difference between us getting to the tourney.... or not. What do you really prefer?

I would be worried if the best recruiting class in the history of the program wasn't on the way. But it is, so I'm good.

Thank goodness, Nancy was truly a head case. Almost felt bad for the kid. Physically had the tools but never fulfilled his potential. He could always try MMA.

Eastside Jay, are you referring to the team that went to finals of the A-10 tourney and then made the Sweet 16?
(By the way, a 10 seed is not "barely" getting in. A 12 seed is "barely" getting in.)
I do find it interesting that we haven't heard from you for several years but you reappear while UC is on a winning streak. You always were a chickenshit.
For old times sake, could you please tell us again your theory that the reason David West was second in the country in rebounding was because "his soft defense allows him to get a lot of easy rebounds."

This isn't Eastside J. I do feel bad for him though, you give off the psycho, stalker ex-girlfriend vibe.

This coming from a UC fan who has posted on a Xavier message board 151 times in less than 2 months.
But I still suspect you're Eastside Jay. Even if your not, your still kind of a chickenshit. And a weird one at that.

So he calls you Eastside Jay and you come back with the proper screen name for him, Eastside "J". You never were very smart Joey.
151 posts on an XU board and 87 is the stalker? The village of Clifton is missing its idiot.

Sadly, I've also encountered this feller on the Louisville board. I think it's different from Eastie BJ. Not really surprising that there are multiple UC fans like it.

He posts on Louisville boards? He spends his days defending UC on rival boards..classic mid-major mentality.

Hilarious. Maybe Eastside J broke into his office and was posting from his machine.
