Did you notice that @sshole ref's expression at the 0:48 mark? Isn't that the idiot that blew the out-of-bounds call and the blocking call on Stain?

Hell, for that matter, he probably was the one that screwed up allotting the foul call on Batts. He looks like a real piece of work.

And maybe the call where the ball was chucked into the stands on a so-called "pass" and they reversed themselves and said it was tipped? No, it may seem hard to believe, but it really just was that bad! It's like intentional grounding in football...can you argue "that wasn't intentional grounding, I just suck!"? (Sorry, as a Bills fan, we just wonder these things)

I thought bringing in big names to the TAS would get the crowd into it. The fans react the same way they did for La Salle. I guess we only get excited for ranked teams. Let's see how we do when Creighton and Villanova come in. If we don't get pumped up for those teams then our fan base is just lame.

Most of the time if not for the students, there would be no true home court advantage. The majority of fans need to be much louder way more often. Even if X is down 15 they need to be loud which could help with the atmosphere rather than waiting see if XU comes back and then getting loud for the one bucket that takes the lead. Being in seats before tipoff would also be encouraged in my opinion.

It might just be me, but I think the students were better last year. A lot better. They have had some good games this year but last year was great. I guess I expected more with the Big East, or just stay the same at least. I didn't expect them to be below last years student section.

Agreed that the out of bunds call was terrible, the block on Stain, last year it was a charge no doubter, this year you have to give the ref that call he moved in just after the shooter started his upward motion and Stain could have been still shifting to his right as contact was made.

Anyway, I thought the out of bounds with the phantom touch by a Xavier player who was not even close was the worst call, was that the same guy??

Relax. Consider it a makeup call for the layup at Providence Semaj tossed over the backboard but the officials ruled Providence blocked out of bounds and awarded the ball back to Xavier. Also a pretty bad call.

Two big names that were eliminated from the home schedule were UC and Dayton who draw more interest than any Big East team that comes to the Cintas Center. We have no natural rivalries now. Hopefully that will develop over time.

This game may have had a lethargic atmosphere, but some of these Big East games have been outstanding. The Georgetown and Marquette games were electric, and unlike anything I have seen for a home conference game, or against a team not named UD or UC. I expect the same when Nova and Creighton come to town.

Our crowds as a whole, have been great since the start of Big East play. We had some low energy games in the non con, but you can't develop an opinion on the crowd of one game. The schedule makers have fu**ed with us big time this year. Many of the better home games are slated for when the students are gone and we have had some strange game times like Noon, 9 pm, and 3 pm.

Every year someone finds the need to gripe about our crowd, and I am sure it will continue to happen.

Bitch away....

He has his own company (www.bradredfordbasketball.com) and puts on shooting/training clinics for youth teams throughout the area. He also has been appearing on some of the local news sports shows doing breakdowns of XU and UC games (he's outstanding at this, by the way). As noted elsewhere he does some gameday emceeing for the Athletic Department as well.

Wow! That's awesome. I hope he's got all the work he can handle. I saw some of the videos he did the year he was out hurt and it would be hard not to like the guy, plus I think he knows a little something about shooting. My kids did a lot of that stuff growing up and it's a real industry. We paid a fortune for camps and trainers and AAU travel (and of course now I wonder why, but they were into it). And that kid in the instructional video can shoot the lights out!

Not picking on you Go, but many of our fans have a distorted view of what it was like to play at Cincinnati Gardens.

We had great crowds for certain games at CG, but I recall many, many, games when that place was half empty, smelled like elephant shit, and my feet stuck to the cement floor from the spilled soda at the circus the weekend before. I recall games that were stopped because the ice below the floor was melting and players were slipping. There were times when the players had to practice in sweats because that garage was so cold. We pissed in a troth, which was awesome...until the guy next to you lost control of his hose and sprayed your leg with urine.

Most of the years we played at the Gardens, we only sold out the big games like UC, Loyola Marymount, or UMass when they were ranked #1. We still didn't "rock" the house for our buy games, weak conference games, and the games where the team got off to a sluggish start.

Our crowd is spectacular when the games are good, there is something on the line to play for, there is a big villain to root against, and in many other circumstances. Our crowd gotten much larger and attends games on a more regular basis. We have averaged nearly a sell out since the Cintas Center has opened. But no matter what era of Xavier basketball you speak of, behavior-wise, the crowd hasn't changed. It is larger, but both the old guard and the brand new Xavier fans behave relatively the same as they did in 1985 when I began attending Xavier games. They stand when the momentum builds, sit when the run is stopped, they yell when the refs suck, and it takes them a while to get into the flow of a plodding, slow game.

You can read the threads of every season we have stored in these message boards, and there is at least one thread bitching and moaning about how bad our crowd sucks. I don't think our fan base is that much different than most places.

All I really remember about the Gardens is it was a hassle to get to and from, and it felt dirty and old. If you saw where I was living, my considering it dirty and old should raise some concern. Not that you can't have a great game atmosphere anyway, though. Sadly, I've only been to 2 games at Cintas and one was during break. The " break game" was disappointing in terms of atmosphere, but the other game against St Louis was awesome. My son still talks about the drunk redheaded St Louis fan behind their bench! What would you suggest to improve the atmosphere at Cintas? Not a rhetorical question... is it the setting or the fans? I've seen suggestions of dimming lights in the crowd. Anything else (other than maybe Jaegermeister specials?). I am 2-0 on games I attend, btw, so if you want to all pony up to bring me in as a good luck charm I am open to a game-day scholarship.

Ahhhh, the good ol' you should be standing because I am standing statement. It is important to be courteous to our fellow fans. We are not all students who desire to stand the entire game. The game is enjoyed in different ways by different people. It is not reasonable for every person to be expected to stand the entire game. In fact, many of us are not physically able to do so. I have several seats in the Cintas center and the fans act differently in each section. For the Creighton game, my daughter and I were sitting directly on the floor/courtside basically across from the Xavier bench. We basically never stand in those seats out of courtesy for the fans directly behind us. It is not stadium seating and they would be able to see nothing. I may jump and cheer for a few moments, but then I sit back down.

When we sit in the club section or other seats, people tend to intermittently sit and stand. It is actually pretty annoying to get someone in front of you who thinks it is cool to stand the entire game and can ruin the experience. Especially for my little girl who I then have to pick up for her to see anything.

The way I see is if your section is standing, then stand. If you get excited and want to stand, then stand, but in a few moments if the rest of your section is sitting then sit your tail back down so everyone can enjoy the game.

The Xavier crowds are not unlike crowds at other Cincinnati sporting events. Our town is for the most part not a stand and scream the entire game kind of town, and I'm fine with that. Someone described the crowd as reactionary, and I agree with that. That's fine, as long as the crowd get loud at the right moments.

Yesterday's crowd was as good as crowd as we've had, and that was with the students on break. Not bad.
